Shen Xiyun sat at the dining table. After seeing dishes with carrots and spinach brought out, she looked at Aunt Zhang with a suspicious expression, and opened her mouth.

Carrots and spinach happened to be among the vegetables that Fu Yunzhou hated, but Yuan Xi cooked it for them to eat. This made Shen Xiyun wonder if Yuan Xi really knew her son.

After Aunt Zhang noticed Shen Xiyun’s expression, she smiled slightly, and there was some gloating in her eyes.

Fu Yunzhou quickly changed his clothes and went downstairs. He sat at the dining table. After seeing the carrots and spinach, his eyebrows moved.

Shen Xiyun was paying attention to Fu Yunzhou’s expression, for fear that if he was unhappy, he would throw his chopsticks. However, Shen Xiyun’s worry was obviously unfounded. Although Fu Yunzhou’s expression was a little displeased, he still sat down beside Yuan Xi.

Aunt Zhang helped place the dishes in front of everyone. Yuan Xi used his chopsticks to serve Fu Yunzhou some carrots. “I’ve forgotten to make them for you for the past couple of days. There are fresh ones in the fridge, so eat more.”

Shen Xiyun opened her mouth, wanting to tell Yuan Xi that just giving Fu Yunzhou carrots was an act of taboo. She was stopped by Aunt Zhang.

Aunt Zhang shook her head at Shen Xiyun and pointed at the tableware in front of Shen Xiyun, signaling for her to eat quickly.

Shen Xiyun frowned, and just as she was about to answer, she saw Fu Yunzhou frown and eat the carrot in front of him. Any words Shen Xiyun wanted to say were swallowed back. Her eyes were wide open, looking at the empty bowl in disbelief.

“This, this…”

Shen Xiyun looked at the empty bowl, not knowing how to express her shock.

Fu Yunzhou looked up at his mother, then calmly ignored her before serving Yuan Xi a few vegetables. He then bowed his head to eat seriously.

Shen Xiyun didn’t know how she spent the rest of the meal.

She looked stupidly at the empty carrot dish, and there was a roaring vicuna in her heart.

Shen Xiyun didn’t dare think that the person who ate the carrots was her son. That person was too picky, and no matter what she tried, Fu Yunzhou would not eat a single bite of carrots. But he actually ate them tonight!

Yuan Xi didn’t notice Shen Xiyun’s awkwardness. After eating he sat on the sofa side by side with Fu Yunzhou. Fu Yunzhou watched financial news as Yuan Xi played with his phone.

Although there wasn’t much interaction between them, they looked very river crab.

After Shen Xiyun recovered from the shock, she saw the warm appearance of Fu Yunzhou and Yuan Xi. Although they weren’t yet dating, they occasionally will lean towards each other and whisper things.

Looking at the situation, Shen Xiyun began to suspect that the two were already in a relationship, even though Fu Yunzhou said that there was no progress between the two of them.

Shen Xiyun glanced at her son suspiciously, then touched her chin. Secretly, she thought that since her son had been single for more than twenty years, he must be stupid when it came to love.

More than half an hour had passed with them watching the news. Yuan Xi got up and went to the kitchen to bring out the porridge that he cooked earlier, and put it in front of Fu Yunzhou.

After Fu Yunzhou glanced at it, he picked it up and slowly drank it.

Yuan Xi uses a small pot to cook the porridge, so the amount boiled was enough for one person to drink.

One person makes the porridge and the other person eats. Their interaction was like that of an old married couple.

When Yuan Xi remembered that Shen Xiyun was still there, he looked over and met her loving eyes. Yuan Xi blinked, then glanced at Fu Yunzhou beside him, before poking the other person.

“Yun Zhou, why is your mother’s expression so strange?”

After Fu Yunzhou glanced at her, he pretended like he didn’t see her.

Yuan Xi: …

Yuan Xi met Shen Xiyun’s eyes who smiled softly, while Yuan Xi smiled awkwardly.

Yuan Xi turned his eyes away silently, and looked down at his phone absentmindedly, feeling fuzzy inside. Today’s meeting with the male god’s mother was completely unexpected, and her attitude made Yuan Xi panic.

After staring at his phone for a long time, his mind was empty. His eyes wandered around, and he spotted some fruit on the table, so he picked out a big apple. He held the apple up to Shen Xiyun with a sincere smile on his face.

“Auntie, eat an apple.”

Shen Xiyun took it with a smile, still looking lovingly at Yuan Xi.

Yuan Xi shifted uncomfortably, leaned on Fu Yunzhou’s side, and tried to use Fu Yunzhou to divert Shen Xiyun’s line of sight. However, it had little effect. After seeing Yuan Xi and Fu Yunzhou so close together, Shen Xiyun’s smile became even bigger.

Fu Yunzhou originally was watching the news, but Yuan Xi’s approach made him a little absent minded, and his mother’s gaze made him uncomfortable.

Fu Yunzhou coughed a few times, and looked down at the time. “Mom, it’s late now, I can take you back. If it gets too dark, Dad will worry.”

Fu Yunzhou got up as he said this. Shen Xiyun originally wanted to stay longer, but Fu Yunzhou pulled her up too, and so she could only reluctantly obey.

However, before leaving, Shen Xiyun made sure to get Yuan Xi’s phone number and social media, saying that he must keep in contact with her.

Yuan Xi just blankly stared as he successfully obtained the contact information of the male god’s mother. It seemed that Fu Yunzhou’s mother’s attitude towards him was quite good.

Fu Yunzhou finally got his mother into the car, but as soon as he sat in the driver’s seat, he met his mother’s curious eyes.

“Yunzhou, didn’t you say that you haven’t made any progress with him? You even ate carrots, and yet you said there was no progress! Besides, he makes porridge for you every day, aren’t you moved? And oh, Yunzhou, your health has improved a lot recently. In the past, you were dizzy and always coughing, but I heard from Aunt Zhang that she doesn’t notice it anymore…”

Fu Yunzhou concentrated on driving while Shen Xiyun sat in the passenger’s seat and spoke seriously.

When he got home, Shen Xiyun’s mouth didn’t close, and she continued talking non-stop.

“We’re here.”

Fu Yunzhou’s voice sounded. Shen Xiyun glanced at the house with its lights on with disappointment before she got out of the car.

After getting out and taking a few steps, Shen Xiyun turned back and walked to the window, looking at Fu Yunzhou with displeasure: “Yunzhou, this mother likes that child, Yuan Xi, very much. When he looks at you, his eyes are bright. Besides, he doesn’t mind that your health is bad, and is sincerely trying to help you.You must grasp onto him and not let him run away.”

Seeing Shen Xiyun about to start lecturing again, Fu Yunzhou immediately drove away.

Looking at the back of the car, Shen Xiyun curled her lips unhappily: “Oh, it’s hard to manage a child when they’re older. I was only able to say a few words of advice, so I’m not happy. If it weren’t for my daughter-in-law and your poor health, I’d be too lazy to take care of you!”

“Since talking to my son doesn’t work, why not try my daughter-in-law instead?”

After thinking about it, Shen Xiyun felt her idea was feasible, since her son couldn’t listen. In the middle of winter, she decided to try from Yuan Xi’s side.

And through today’s observation, Shen Xiyun found that Yuan Xi wasn’t unfeeling towards Fu Yunzhou.

It was just because both of them were in love for the first time, and so they don’t understand the feeling in their hearts. When together, the atmosphere was very warm, but there was also a sense of embarrassment between them.

Thinking of her daughter-in-law who could make her son change his bad habits, Shen Xiyun’s expression became one of love.

They had already investigated Yuan Xi’s identity when they brought him to the Fu family’s main residence, so Shen Xiyun knew very well that Yuan Xi was an orphan with no relatives. He had never received love as a child.

After finally finding a secure job, he was brought here by her son without knowing why, so that orphan was suddenly living the life of a rich young master.

Fortunately, Yuan Xi’s temperament was pure and kind, because if he were a child who was weak-willed, he would have been kicked out long ago.

Thinking of Fu Yunzhou’s actions, Shen Xiyun’s expression was a little unnatural, and in her heart she wanted to complain a little more.

If there really was something wrong with this child, Yuan Xi, wouldn’t her oldest son be a bachelor for his entire life? Even his body wouldn’t have been as healthy as it was now, and he might have died young.

As soon as she thought of it, Shen Xiyun scolded her second son a few more times in her heart.

Sometimes parents are so biased. Who made her eldest son considerate, well behaved, talented, and able to handle the company’s affairs with ease? And her youngest son?

He was proficient in everything when it came to eating, drinking and playing. The only good thing was that he could control himself and not touch their bottom line.

But, in comparison, they were more distressed for their eldest son, who was considerate, obedient and hard working despite his bad health.

Fu Yushen, who was already working overtime in the middle of the night, was holding his eyelids open and staring at the documents in front of him, trying not to fall asleep.

He sneezed suddenly, which woke him up a bit. After reaching out and rubbing his nose, he took advantage of the burst of wakefulness to read a few more lines of information on the document.

“Brother, when are you coming back? I’ve really had enough of this kind of life. I really just want to be a second generation ancestor, a rice bug!”

Vicuna: looks like a delicate version of an alpaca

River crab: Chinese media gets censored under a principle called “harmonious society” which is supposed to be anti-porn, anti-violence, etc. So things that go against “chinese values” can get deleted. River crab sounds very similar to “harmony” so sometimes people will say things like “my post got harmonized/river crabbed” to indicate that the Chinese government deleted it. She’s basically saying that the Chinese government wouldn’t approve of their closeness

Ancestor: refers to someone who has to be served with a certain degree of respect, but is used sarcastically. You’ll sometimes see this in reference to when someone’s lover or child is picky or temperamental like “Go coax your little ancestor” etc. Fu Yushen is being ironic about it.

TL/N: do you guys like it when I use the "direct translation" (I'm talking about the whole river crab thing) or would it have been better if I had just used "harmonious" and mentioned the river crab thing at the bottom? or should have i not mentioned it at all? let me know, but if no one says anything i'll just continue on as is. Thanks for reading!!!
