Chapter 2- Hotdog spreads its wings and flies into the oil pan

Sitting on a bench at the police station, Song Qiaoxi was swinging her short legs while holding a bottle of ‘Joy’ brand juice with both hands. She was drinking happily as she was sucking the straw.

After all, only during the new year that the welfare house would give this kind of drinks to them.

She stared at the milky white bottle in her hand, savoring the sweet and sour taste.

Not long after, a burst of rapid footsteps and noisy voices came from the corridor.

The door of the office was open.

Hearing the noise, Song Qiaoxi looked up and saw a middle-aged man and woman coming from the door.

The man was tall, with a pair of brown glasses on the bridge of his nose, he possess curly hair and beard. His polo wasn’t buttoned at the top, and it was tucked in on his pair of trousers with a belt.

The woman wore a long braid like a princess. The blue dress matched her snow-white skin, however, her gentle and good-looking eyes and nose were red.

Her Mom and Dad are here!

She remembered that her father’s name was Song Jianguo, an editor of an average newspaper company. He often worked overtime.

Her mother’s name was Qiao Qin. She was a teacher in a vocational school.

She has some leisure time at work and, like students, she has a summer and winter vacation. The two looked the same as from her memory.

Song Qiaoxi stared at them blankly, her lips were slightly open. She was too nervous to say anything.

At this moment, Song Qiaoxi was not calm at all; just now, she suddenly remembered that she had caused a big trouble today.

Why was she appear at the train station alone?

It was because her parents arrange for her to go to preschool, but the original owner was unwilling.

During the whole class she wasn’t listening, she ruined her book on lunch break, and before coming to school she took a few pieces of bills from her mother’s wallet. After escaping from the school security’s grasp, she went straight to the train station; preparing to escape and go to Thailand where her grandparents live.

Her grandparents had always spoiled her and would always give want she wants unconditionally.

But as soon as she arrived at the waiting hall, she couldn’t distinguish north, and then, the incident that she was almost abducted by human traffickers happened.

She ran away from school, tore books, and stole money.

Each of these happening was considered a big mistake back in the welfare house. Song Qiaoxi was afraid of being punished by getting locked in a small dark room.

In such a small space where she couldn’t see anything, she felt suffocated and scared.

The mixing of her old and new memories brought confusion to her little brain.

In a trance, Song Qiaoxi saw her mother rushing over, so she immediately closed her eyes nervously.

‘Oh my God! I’m screwed this time…’

To her surprise, what was waiting for her was not a spank or a loud scolding as she had imagined. It was an unexpected warm embrace.

Her mother held her tightly within her arms. The woman said with a trembling voice, “Xixi, you scared me to death. Where have you been? Don’t run around anymore. How can you live without your mother…”

After a while, she felt a warm hand holding her little hand, she looked up and It was her father.

With a sigh of relief, her dad came over beside her mom and gently pinched his fleshy wrist, “it’s good that Xixi is fine.”

As the woman kissed her, the man held her hand, Song Qiaoxi’s mind was in a mess.

Why didn’t she get scolded for what she had done? She wouldn’t feel that anything was wrong even if she was beaten, let alone being scolded.

Did her parents love her unconditionally?

She couldn’t help but remember that the most saddening thing that happened to her in the original novel was the ending of her parents. Her father died miserably in an accident when she was 19 years old. While her mother was stimulated by the death of her father and got hospitalized.

Thinking of this, she shivered.

She shook her head and sobbed on her mother’s shoulder.

She held back her tears and swore in her heart, “I won’t run around anymore. I will be with dad and mom all my life. I must protect them and don’t get them hurt!”

“All right, all right. My daughter, your mom, and dad are here.”

Her father patted her on the back and kissed her on the cheek.
His curly beard made her face itchy. Song Qiaoxi smiled shyly and hid in her mother’s arms.

She felt so happy to be showered by their love. She suddenly felt that she had the best parents in the world. She must cherish them and love them with all her might.

After making a detailed statement in the police station, her parents took her to thank the police again and prepared to go home.

After leaving the police station, Dad carried her on his shoulder and walked through the square of the train station. The whole family walked towards the parking lot.

Sitting on her father’s shoulder, Song Qiaoxi seemed to open a perspective of God.

Looking down from the height, she found that everyone had become smaller. The setting sun in the distance was like a duck egg yolk, and the cool night wind was so comfortable.

There was a strong smell of oil in the air. She sniffed and her stomach rumbled.

“Are you hungry, my daughter? Do you want to eat fried hotdog?”

Hotdog!

Her eyes lit up and she looked in the direction of her fingers. The stall owner was skillfully cutting the Hotdog with a paring knife, and the Hotdog flew into the frying pan as if it opened its wings.

After leaving the pan, the outer layer of the meat Hotdog had exploded. Putting on the bamboo skewer and spreading the sesame powder, it looked soft and attractive.

She was drooling crazily.

But Song Qiaoxi withdrew her gaze, shook her head, and said in a low voice, “I don’t want to eat.”

In her memory, her mother didn’t allow her to eat roadside stands and said that she would have a stomachache if she ate them all.

She didn’t want her mother to be unhappy.

“Xixi hasn’t eaten much at noon. It’s time for lunch. She must be very hungry.”

Her father pleaded to her mother as he hadn’t heard her words “I don’t want to eat”.

In a corner of her eye, she saw that her mother glaring at her father helplessly. She took out her wallet from her bag and said to the stall owner, “Mister, an order of fried Hotdog please. Don’t put too much spicy food in it.”

“Okay, 50 Yen.” the stall owner shouted and started cutting the Hotdog with a knife.

After paying the bill, her mother went to the canteen nearby to buy some water and asked them to wait there.

Song Qiaoxi put her hands over her father’s head and rested her chin on the back of her hands to hide her inner happiness and nervousness. Suddenly, her eyes stopped at a place.

On the road, a few meters away from the hotdog stall, she saw a thin boy in blue stripes and short sleeves, with a big schoolbag sitting on the bench.

When she was at the security office, the police officer described the young man’s appearance. She was sure that it must be Chu Jin who called the police.

Her parents also said that they must thank the little brother for saving her.
“Brother, brother!”

She waved at him from the shoulder of her father.

Seeing that the boy ignored her, she got anxious and wanted to get down from her father’s back. She said in a hurry, “I saw the boy who called the police.”

Her father hurriedly put her down from his back carefully.

With her feet on the ground, she ran towards Chu Jin with her two short legs. Her father shouted behind her, “Xixi, slow down!”

Seeing that Chu Jin stood up, she sped up for fear that he would run away again.

When she arrived in front of Chu Jin, he had already picked up his schoolbag. In a moment of desperation, Song Qiaoxi pulled the straps of his schoolbag and leaned back as if she was in a tug of war.

“Mr… brother Chu Jin, it must be you who called the police to save me. I haven’t thanked you yet.”

The baby’s voice was a little out of breath because of the rush.

Chu Jin frowned and lowered his eyes to look at her. She just raised her eyes to look at him. The little brother was so thin, so he should not have the strength to run away by himself?

Unexpectedly, the boy loosened the straps of his schoolbag.

She could only drag his schoolbag and sat on the ground. Song Qiaoxi held the heavy schoolbag tightly like an octopus.

Father Song ran after her and lifted her from the ground.

He carefully checked whether there was any wound on her body. After making sure that she was fine, he handed over her schoolbag.

She hid behind her father, grabbed the hem of his shirt with her fingers, poked out half of her head, and peeked at Chu Jin.

Her father bent over and handed him his schoolbag. He asked kindly, “kid, Were you the one that called the police?

Nodding silently, Chu Jin reached out his thin arm to take the back his bag. As soon as he held it, he immediately put it on his thin shoulder.

He lowered his eyes and looked pale. His loose collar exposed his thin collarbone.

The little brother’s hands were so beautiful, long and white. It was easy to tell that he was adept at playing the piano. She remembered that she often heard good music from their courtyard more than a year ago.

Listening to her father’s grateful words to him, her eyes inadvertently swept over the shocking scars on his legs.

Song Qiaoxi’s heart skipped a beat. What happened to Chu Jin?

She tried to recall the book about his childhood.

In the original Novel, after his parents passed away, he was adopted by his uncle. But not long after, his uncle took away all the property of his family and disappeared from his life. Other relatives refused to raise him with the excuse of not having enough money.

In the end, he almost died on the street. After he was rescued, he was sent to a school as a “problem child” to receive “education”. Since then, he had serious “anti-social” behaviors for a long time.

Even after he became famous, the comments of the industry on him were no more than “extreme”, “vicious”, “ruthless” and so on.

Chu Jin used to be loved by the whole world, but now he had nothing.

Song Qiaoxi stared at him with her eyes wide open. He looked cold, but he was very polite when answering her father’s question.

She couldn’t connect the little pitiful gut in front of her to the villain in the future.

He would be a bad guy in the future, but he was also the Savior of Song Qiaoxi.

She subconsciously felt that she should do something.

But what should she do?

When she heard that her father had recognized that Chu Jin was a neighbor of the family residence, she was a little excited and told him that her mother and father were good friends when they were alive.

His father’s handheld the boy’s thin arm, and his voice was full of pity. “Child, how long have you been outside yourself?”

He must have guessed his experience by asking this question.

Chu Jin shook his head silently and bit his bloodless lips as if he didn’t want to show any fragility.

“Why did you run to the roadside? I told you to wait for me there, but I’ve never asked you to take care of Xixi. Aren’t you the child of the Chu family? Why are you here?”

Her mother’s voice was as penetrating as the Emmett’s. she walked quickly over with a plastic bag and Hotdog in her hand and recognized him.

“Honey, I want to talk to you.”

His father winked at mother Song and handed the Hotdog to Song Qiaoxi.

Mother Song told the two kids not to run around, while Father Song took mother Song near the trashcan. A few meters away from, he talked to her.

The Hotdog in her hand smell good. Song Qiaoxi savored the smell and the look at Chu Jin, “Here you are.”

Chu Jin turned his face away, and his throat moved. He took a step back as if he was deliberately keeping a distance from her.

“The fried Hotdog is delicious. You eat it.”

She took a step forward, she handed it to him with both hands. She moved with instability and almost hit his face.

Chu Jin reached out his hand subconsciously.

“Plop.”

The Hotdog fell to the ground and rolled in circles. It was stained with soil and couldn’t be eaten.

He stared at Song Qiaoxi nervously.

The little girl’s face was full of grievance, and her big eyes were filled with tears.

Chu Jin felt that she would burst into tears soon, just like his cousin in his uncle’s house. As soon as he cried, he would complain to his parents. In the end, Chu Jin would always be punished.

He was driven out of the house by his aunt because his cousin cried and said he drank Wahaha secretly. But that bottle of Wahaha was given to him by his cousin.

Everyone thought he was a burden and wanted to kick him away like a broken ball.

No one liked him except his parents in heaven. Including this little girl named Xixi.
