Jiang Mo Chen and Yan Qing Chi took Qiqi to eat dinner. Because she was busy, Jiang Xing Chen didn’t join them. Instead, she told them that she would take care of herself in the hotel.

Jiang Mo Chen sent Liu Ai a WeChat message asking if his older sister had eaten yet.

Liu Ai replied to his boss while helping Jiang Xing Chen find documents: 【She had just ordered dinner, but it still hasn’t been sent up here yet. The big boss is truly busy. Even at this moment, she’s in a phone call.】

When Jiang Mo Chen saw that this was the case, he sighed. He sent Jiang Xing Chen a WeChat message saying that he will go back after a while and help her.

Most likely because she was in the middle of a call, Jiang Xing Chen did not reply.

When they returned to the hotel after eating dinner, Jiang Mo Chen went to find Jiang Xing Chen. Meanwhile, Yan Qing Chi took Qiqi straight to his own room. He had just taken a seat and checked his phone when he saw that He Fei had sent him several WeChat messages while they had been eating: 【Yan-ge, are you back yet?】

【Yan-ge, let me know when you’re back.】

【Yan-ge, are you together with Chen-ge?】

Yan Qing Chi turned on the T.V. for Qiqi and replied to He Fei:【I’m back.】

Soon, he heard the sound of knocking.

Qiqi raised his head to look at him. Yan Qing Chi rubbed his noggin, “It’s alright. Continue watching the animation.”

He walked out and opened the door to see He Fei standing there.

Yan Qing Chi let He Fei in, but he did not bring the latter further inside in fear of startling Qiqi. He merely asked He Fei, “What’s wrong?”

Little He was very aggrieved, “Yan-ge, I know that I am not as incredible as Wang-ge, but I’m the one who is your assistant. Next time when you go out, can you bring me along with you? Otherwise, if Guan Mei-jie knew that I did not follow you every day, she would think that I’m slacking off.”

Yan Qing Chi chuckled, “It’s not that serious. I’ll let Guan Mei know that it was Jiang Mo Chen who had Little Wang go with us. Liu Ai didn’t follow us either, so don’t overthink it.”

Hearing that Liu Ai hadn’t gone either, Little He was slightly reassured. He reckoned that he still had a chance to save the situation and himself, “Oh, right. Yan-ge, who were the woman and child who came looking for you today? Do CEO Jiang and Guan Mei-jie know?”

“They know.”

“You don’t even know, the moment after you left, it’s unknown who started it first but somehow the people in the crew were saying that they were your girlfriend and child. It was Producer Zhang who couldn’t watch it go on any further and told them not to speculate, that the two of them (the woman and child) had no relation to you. He advised them to watch what they say so as not to provoke people they shouldn’t provoke; only then did the circulating rumors cease.”

Yan Qing Chi nodded. Not many people knew about his marriage with Jiang Mo Chen. Although Producer Zhang knew Jiang Xing Chen, he did not know about this particular connection between him (YQC) and Jiang Xing Chen. Thus, it was quite normal for him (PD Zhang) to say that.

“Oh, right. Yan-ge,” Little He looked at him, “did you go out with Chen-ge to watch a movie?”

“Mn.”

“Then do you know you two were caught on camera?”

“I know.” He even knew that if no one had taken a picture, Jiang Mo Chen was going to make Wang Xiang Hai hype it up himself.

“Then, do you know that you and Chen-ge have cp fans?”

“Ah?” Now this Yan Qing Chi really did not know.

He Fei took out his phone and sent him several links, “You take your time looking at these and getting an understanding of the situation. Then let Chen-ge’s side know and see what his stance on the matter is.”

Yan Qing Chi nodded, “You’ve worked hard.”

“No, no, it’s nothing at all. On the contrary, I think that I am too idle.” He Fei said sincerely.

Yan Qing Chi smiled, “Don’t worry. As soon as things wrap up for this movie, I will be off to record a variety show. At that time, you won’t be idle anymore.”

He Fei’s eyes showed anticipation, “Really?”

“Mn.”

He Fei was instantly delighted. As he observed this, Yan Qing Chi felt that He Fei was really unable to hide his thoughts and emotions, “Is there anything else?”

“There’s nothing else.”

“Then you go back first and rest.”

“Alright. Yan-ge, you rest early too.”

“Mn.”

After saying that, He Fei left.

Yan Qing Chi closed the door, walked back to the living room, and took a seat next to Qiqi.

He took Qiqi into his arms and poked the boy’s face and waist to tease him. Qiqi chortled due to this. Yan Qing Chi asked him, “Do you want to play a game with me?”

Qiqi promptly nodded, “Yes.”

“Then let’s not watch T.V. anymore. We’ll play a game.”

“Play what?” Qiqi asked.

“Play a game where we can draw together.”

“How?” Qiqi was curious.

Yan Qing Chi took a paper and pencil. He laid the paper on the coffee table in front of him, “Look, I will draw something right now.”

He drew a circle, and then handed the pencil over to Qiqi, “And you will draw something, anything you’d like.”

Qiqi pondered for a moment before drawing an ear on the circle. Yan Qing Chi drew an ear on the other side of the circle, and then handed the pencil to Qiqi again. Soon, Qiqi drew an eye; and Yan Qing Chi mimicked him in drawing another eye. Like this, the two of them took turns drawing something. Before they knew it, time had passed.

After helping Jiang Xing Chen with the work she had on her hands at the moment, Jiang Mo Chen had Liu Ai head back first. Jiang Xing Chen was quite tired. She wanted to rest, but she hadn’t forgotten about Jiang Mo Chen. So, she asked, “How was your excursion today?”

“It was great. Qiqi really liked that animation.”

“From what I saw today, you and Yan Qing Chi seem to be getting along well.”

“Mn.”

“That’s good then. You got married in a hurry. At the time, I had some objections to it, but I was also willing to humor you since it was ultimately a major decision that impacted the rest of your life. Nevertheless, I was quite worried about how you two would get along after you got married. But from what I see now, it seems to be better than I had thought.”

How could Jiang Mo Chen not hear the message behind her words? If he had investigated Yan Qing Chi before he met him in person 1, his older sister must have done the same.

“Older Sister, sometimes, the information that we have gathered—or how he appears on the outside—might not be the actual truth. What we see with our own eyes is what’s real. If there is time in the future, and you interact with him for a longer time, you will discover that what we’ve investigated is simply a heap of useless words. The real him and the him pieced together from his profile are practically two different people.”

Jiang Xing Chen was intrigued, “Then why would he be like this?”

“I haven’t asked him yet. When the time is right, I will naturally know. Although, I think that how he is right now is very good.”

Jiang Xing Chen smiled, “Looks like you’re very satisfied with him.”

Jiang Mo Chen didn’t say anything; he only looked at her with a smile.

Jiang Xing Chen knew that this was his confirmation. She watched as her younger brother tenderly defended his spouse with a protective overtone. His expression was very composed, yet his eyes carried warmth. He would unconsciously smile when he spoke of that person, seeming to experience a sort of extremely untroubled happiness. This was a Jiang Mo Chen whom she had never seen before.

Unlike his apathy during his adolescence when he still did not understand affection and love, and unlike his helplessness when he thought he had developed feelings for someone he shouldn’t, the Jiang Mo Chen right now was like a teenager who had learned about love for the first time: because he was talking about the person he liked, despite being shy to admit it, he couldn’t help wanting to tell you a bit more about the good points of that person. And because he thought of the other party, his expression would unwittingly soften. Even though Jiang Mo Chen had already lived through his adolescent years, and was long past the age of having an obvious or secret crush in the time of youth while in school uniform, his feelings seemed to have been cleansed and reverted to that specific period of time of his youth.2

Jiang Xing Chen felt that this kind of Jiang Mo Chen made her overjoyed; she was very happy for him.

“It’s fine as long as you two are getting along well. Now you are also someone with both a career and a family.”

Jiang Mo Chen was helpless, “Don’t say that, Older Sister. Compared to you, that business of mine is nothing.”

“That cannot be said. I am simply guarding our family’s foundation3, but you single-handedly expanded Nan Cheng to where it is today. In public, you have the popularity, the public reputation, and awards; behind the scenes, you did well with developing Nan Cheng. You’re already doing very well.”

Ever since he was a kid, Jiang Mo Chen knew that his older sister was always gentle to him and supportive—so much so that she pampered him. This was most likely because their parents were too strict with him when he was little, which constantly made him unhappy. So, Jiang Xing Chen kept doing her best to make him a little happier, and a little happier than that. In the elite circles, some families may fight to the death amongst themselves for the family legacy, yet some would be united with friendly affection for one another as well as joyous and harmonious relations. When Jiang Mo Chen went to university, Jiang Xing Chen had already entered the Jiang Corporation to learn about the business. At that time, there were always people lacking in discernment who liked to gossip around him. In the end, they had all been repelled by Ren Xu and Liao Si Bo.4

He didn’t like other people sowing discord between him and Jiang Xing Chen, just like how he didn’t like it when people said that ‘Jiang Xing Chen was only a girl; how could she inherit this giant Jiang family bloc? In the end, he would be the one to inherit the corporation.’

So what if she was a girl? Jiang Mo Chen found it ridiculous. Couldn’t girls be charismatic, decisive, and/or strategic? He had always thought that Jiang Xing Chen was extremely intelligent, and he believed that she would definitely be able to take good care of the Jiang Corporation. That was why, after he graduated and Jiang Xing Chen asked him which department or branch company of the main company he wanted to work in, Jiang Mo Chen chose Nan Cheng Entertainment—the most unremarkable company under the Jiang family’s banner at the time. At that time, he had told Jiang Xing Chen that he would make Nan Cheng the most impressive entertainment company in the country—just like how he believed that she would maintain the glory of the Jiang Corporation.

Jiang Mo Chen smiled. And now, they’ve both accomplished that 5.

Jiang Mo Chen chatted for a while longer with Jiang Xing Chen before he left her room. He knocked open Wang Xiang Hai’s door and entered the latter’s room, but he did not go any further. He merely closed the door and stood at the entrance as he talked to Wang Xiang Hai.

“Since you already know about Yan Qing Chi, I won’t hide it from you. Yan Qing Chi and I are married. You must have already guessed that he is Qiqi’s other dad.”

Wang Xiang Hai hadn’t thought that Jiang Mo Chen came to find him to talk about this. His heart was raised up to his throat as he nodded, scared witless.

“This matter ends here. Do not tell anyone else, including Little Liu.”

“I understand.” Wang Xiang Hai promised.

“I trust you. You have always been very quick-witted.”

Wang Xiang Hai smiled awkwardly. Jiang Mo Chen did not scare him any further. He patted Wang Xiang Hai’s shoulder, “Get some rest.”

Then he turned the door handle and walked out.

The moment he was gone, Wang Xiang Hai heaved a sigh of relief and leaned against the wall. Ever since he learned of this secret today, he had been very scared and on edge. Now he had been liberated (from this state of fear). He had always been an intelligent person, so he never wanted to know other people’s secrets. A secret was like a bomb; if one knew too much, they were bound to be hurt from the bomb.

When Jiang Mo Chen returned to Yan Qing Chi’s room, Yan Qing Chi was still drawing with Qiqi. Jiang Mo Chen got closer to them and saw that they were drawing in turns. Qiqi was at a young age, and his drawing was still very childish. Sometimes it would also be rather outlandish. Yan Qing Chi relied on his excellent drawing skills to turn Qiqi’s distorted lines into a flower or a small animal.

Seeing Jiang Mo Chen return, Yan Qing Chi handed him the pencil, “Here, you draw the last thing. This drawing of ours is almost done.”

Qiqi was happy from drawing, his face full of excitement as he nodded with sounds of agreement (“En en”), “You draw, Father.”

Footnotes

It’s mentioned in Chapters 4 and 5 that JMC had gathered data on YQC beforehand, and the discordance between YQC and the Original Owner (whose data was collected) is explicitly discussed in Chapter What I referenced for “褪去了铅华” (tuìqùleqiānhuá): Baidu 1 and Baidu 2. She’s maintaining a family business that is already well-established, but JMC isn’t 那个时候总有不长眼的喜欢在他耳边说闲话,结果全被任绪和廖思博打回去了。So literally this said that there were people who “did not have/grow eyes” saying “idle talk” by his ears. In the end, they were all “hit back” by Ren Xun and Liao Si Bo (JMC’s friends). For the part about “not growing eyes”, in this context, it is being used to say that these people did not see what they were supposed to see. In other words, they didn’t see that JMC didn’t mind about JXC being in the company. For the part about hitting back, I wasn’t sure if this was literal (actually hitting) or not (verbally returned/batted back). So I just used “repelled”.”That” being what he had declared at the time
