Sorry this update is months overdue. I’ll be working to catch up. Reasons for the delay in the spoiler if you care or are curious.

Jiang Mochen chuckled, “You didn’t hear it? Never mind then.”

Yan Qingchi was dissatisfied, “Couldn’t you say it again if I didn’t hear it?”

“Haven’t you heard the saying ‘don’t say good things a second time’?”

“No,” Yan Qingchi answered unabashedly.

“Then now you know (because I just told you).”

Yan Qingchi snorted, “Jiang Mochen. I see that I don’t need to mention a stipulation to the production team for the episode that Yuan Mingxu’s coming for; instead, I will need to tell them that they have to choose between the two of us for the two episodes that you’re coming for.1”

Jiang Mochen laughed, “Who do you think the production team will choose?”

“You, duh. Have fun playing with Sun Xun all by yourself.”

“Now you’re not worried that you’ll scare me?”

“Now you don’t think that you had been thoughtless?”

Jiang Mochen facepalmed helplessly and couldn’t help laughing, “Your retorts really hit me where it hurts.” 2

Yan Qingchi snorted coldly.

After Jiang Mochen had teased him enough, he opened his mouth once more, “I said, ‘I miss you.’”

“What’d you say? My signal is bad.”

“I said, I miss you, I long for you, is your signal good now? Can you hear me now?”

Now Yan Qingchi was satisfied, “Looks like you really do miss me.”

Jiang Mochen didn’t know what to do with him, “Childish.”

Yan Qingchi smiled wordlessly.

“Don’t you think you ought to say something as well?” Jiang Mochen prompted.

“What?”

“For example, what should you say in return?”

“What should I say in return?” Yan Qingchi played dumb.

Jiang Mochen was speechless,“Yan Qingchi.” He called Yan Qingchi’s full name.

“Oh.” Yan Qingchi replied, and Jiang Mochen slightly regained his composure, only to hear the other man breezily say, “since you miss me, then look forward to us meeting again if fate allows it.”

“Yan Qingchi!” Jiang Mochen was extremely indignant.

“I still have things to do, so I’ll be going now. Bye.” Yan Qingchi said, speedily hanging up.

Jiang Mochen stared at the phone call that had ended, practically so angry his head hurt. Why did he just have to marry such a menace? Would he (YQC) die if he didn’t cause trouble? Was he a mantis shrimp in his past life? (That) he wouldn’t be able to live if he wasn’t mischievous in this life?3

However, before he could grumble about it, he heard the sound of his WeChat notification going off. Jiang Mochen tapped it open to see that Yan Qingchi had sent a voice message. In a rage, he played it, only to hear a lively and pleasant voice, “I miss you too.”

Jiang Mochen’s anger dissipated in an instant, and he didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. Another WeChat message followed, this time in text form: 【I miss you too, Mr. Jiang.】

Below was a little rabbit looking diagonally upwards with its big eyes open, with two big characters jumping beside it: Miss you. 4

Jiang Mochen looked at this sticker, and then at Yan Qingchi’s text message. He only felt that when the other man was causing trouble, he (YQC) could really anger people to death; however, when he (YQC) coaxed people, he was also really good at making them happy.

Yan Qingchi sent him a WeChat message asking: 【Shouldn’t you be replying with a ‘muah’?】

Jiang Mochen refused; he didn’t want to say such a disgusting and effeminate term.

On the other side (of the screen), Yan Qingchi was still urging: 【You won’t? A ‘kissy-kissy’ would do too.】

Jiang Mochen: 【……】

Yan Qingchi: 【Then I’ll send one first and then you will?】

And then Yan Qingchi sent him a “muah” sticker. It was two small round dangos kissing each other’s faces.5

As Jiang Mochen watched it, he slowly, slowly, felt kind of shy.

Yan Qingchi:【Your turn~】

Jiang Mochen: 【……】

Yan Qingchi:【Come on~ Unless you want someone else to send it to me?】

Jiang Mochen had no choice but to copy and send the two kissing little dangos Yan Qingchi had sent back over to him.

Yan Qingchi was satisfied: 【muah~】

Jiang Mochen gave in: 【muah~】

Yan Qingchi guffawed, thinking that Jiang Mochen was really the cutest person in the world.

He chatted with Jiang Mochen for a while, and didn’t put away the phone until Little He came to find him. He flirted with Jiang Mochen one last time, sending him a 【muah】 and saying:【I’ll talk to you later tonight. I’m going to go work first.】

Jiang Mochen replied to him with 【Mn】. After a while, he felt that the singular “Mn” character seemed too cold, so he picked up his phone again and sent him a 【muah】.

When he put down his phone, leaned against the sofa, and thought of his childish and senseless behavior with Yan Qingchi just now, Jiang Mochen thought that he probably truly had gone mad; otherwise, how could he do such a childish thing? But, he slightly lowered his head, his gaze sweeping across the expressions of the two little dangos kissing each other on the screen in his hand. The more he looked at the sticker, the more he thought it was a little cute. When Jiang Mochen realized that he actually thought it was cute in his heart, he instantly felt that he was incurable. He thought that he probably really needed to be treated.

The afternoon of the 24th, Yan Qingchi shot his scenes, packed his luggage, got into his nanny car, and headed off to the airport to participate in the shooting for a new episode of Come Fight! Friend! With him was Wei Lan, who never complained about fanning the flames.

For an online traffic and popular “Heavenly King”6 like Wei Lan, if he wanted to participate in a reality show like Come Fight! Friend! as a guest star, the production team was naturally thrilled about it. As for the problem of having an additional person, as a mature production team, Come Fight! Friend! expressed that they had their own arrangements.

As soon as Yan Qingchi stepped foot into the airport, he felt Wei Lan’s popularity. Compared to his ten-something fans, Wei Lan’s fans were a great force of many numbers–and they had a division of labor. Those who handed letters, handed letters; those who gave flowers, gave flowers; the sounds of camera shutters were non-stop; and there were more than a few people recording videos on their phones. Amid this, there were the continuous yells of fans maintaining order, “Don’t crowd, don’t crowd.”

Yan Qingchi had never gone through the airport together with anyone before—no matter if it was Jiang Mochen or Sun Xun, when they arrived at the airport, they had always split up. This time with Wei Lan was his first time. ‘But,’ Yan Qingchi thought, ‘I never want to have a second time!’

Wei Lan was very accustomed to this kind of situation. He was even able to walk while answering his fans’ questions.

“Younger Brother is going to shoot Come Fight! Friend!, right?”

“Yeah.”

“Is it to promote Cotton Candy?”

“Yeah, but also to play.”

“Younger Brother, be careful. Don’t get hurt.”

“Don’t worry, I won’t.”

“Younger Brother, you can do it!”

The fans said to Wei Lan. When they turned around and saw Yan Qingchi, they sweetly requested, “As a regular, Qingchi-gege, please take care of our younger brother.”

“Yeah. Our younger brother’s personality is more frank. Older Brother, please understand. Thank you, Older Brother.”

Yan Qingchi: ……If he remembered correctly, he and Wei Lan were the same age. Why did they call him “Older Brother” while Wei Lan was “Younger Brother”?

But Yan Qingchi could only smile and nod, “I will.”

Wei Lan, on the other hand, turned and glanced at him, “Him? Take care of me? More like I’ll take care of him.”

Immediately, female shrieks could be heard from the group of fans. Although Yan Qingchi felt helpless in his heart, he still had to keep a smile on his face, “Don’t worry, I’ll take care of you.”

At this, Wei Lan raised a brow, “Then I really look forward to it~”

Yan Qingchi heard the fans screaming again.

They made it relatively smoothly into the security checkpoint.

Wei Lan waved goodbye to his fans. Yan Qingchi finally breathed a sigh of relief, “You have a little too many fans.” He thought for a while, “And they’re enthusiastic.”

“That’s because I’m popular.”

“Why do they all call you ‘younger brother’?” Yan Qingchi looked him up and down, “You’re 22, an adult, but they still call you ‘younger brother’? And why are you ‘younger brother’ while I’m ‘older brother’?”

Wei Lan laughed a couple times, “The last sentence was your main point, wasn’t it? What’s wrong with being called ‘older brother’? What’s so bad about it? Besides, can you and I be the same to them?”

Wei Lan removed his sunglasses, “I debuted early. When I was 19, I participated in a talent competition show and debuted. At the time, my face was immature, and I was young. My earliest fans were all basically older than me, so they kept calling me ‘younger brother’. Later, when younger fans joined, seeing everyone else calling me that, they also joined in calling me ‘younger brother’. What does being called ‘younger brother’ matter?” Wei Lan looked at him, “You’ve never seen highschool girls calling me ‘baby’7 in their comments. Things like ‘Baby, you’re only 22, Mommy won’t allow you to do this!’ I was also surprised for a moment when I saw it!”

Yan Qingchi, “…So it could be like this too.”

“What else did you think it could be?8 Believe it or not, someone like Jiang Mochen definitely has someone calling him ‘baby’ and telling him, ‘you’re only 28, Mommy forbids you marrying’.”

Yan Qingchi imagined that scene and couldn’t help laughing, “It’s really not easy9.”

“That’s why,” Wei Lan looked at him, “to say nothing of me being 22, even if I’m 32, to them, I’m still their ‘younger brother.’ As I grow up, they do too; they will always think that I’m still little—that I need to be taken care of, even if I’m actually the most savage one.”

Yan Qingchi saw that Wei Lan’s expression was somewhat rueful. He (WL) gazed into the distance. After a long time, he sighed softly, “Right? It’s not that easy.”

Yan Qingchi sensed some solicitousness and pity in his tone. 10

In the end, although Wei Lan had a brash personality, because his life was so smooth-sailing—not only was his family rich and powerful, he had parents who loved him dearly, and a seemingly strict older brother who always gave him whatever he wanted—Wei Lan was still quite ingenuous.

He (WL) felt that he actually didn’t have any relationship with these fans who called him “younger brother”. He couldn’t bring them anything, but they cared about and protected him all the time. When it had gotten cold, they would tell him at the airport, “Remember to wear thermal underwear, Younger Brother. Don’t just care about looking handsome.” And, when they visited his work in the summer, they would say, “Remember to wear sunscreen, Younger Brother. Don’t get suntanned.” When they saw rumors about him, they would stay up all night and publish posts to refute the rumors on his behalf; and when they saw that he had accepted a new endorsement, they would desperately buy it to tell the brand that it had been right to choose him.

Sometimes Wei Lan wanted to tell them, “Don’t buy it. Even if you don’t buy it, they will still choose me. It’s not like I really only get resources based on my fans and numbers.” But when he saw his fans proudly flaunt the sales volume, he would feel that it was fine as long as they were happy.

Wei Lan had always felt that the relationship between fans and idols was probably one of the most wonderful kinds in the world: they clearly weren’t blood-related, hadn’t really talked much to each other, and didn’t know each other well enough, but they would still give without expecting anything in return from the other party. He felt the devotion of his fans, and he had mixed feelings about it (what/how much they give for him); however, he couldn’t bear to make them sad, so all he could do was to treat them as well as possible within his ability.

Yan Qingchi looked at the indescribable expression on his face, and pinched his face, “I had thought you were a happy-go-lucky person, but you’re unexpectedly a pretty considerate guy.”11

Wei Lan pulled his (YQC) hand away, “Just talk when you talk. Why’d you get handsy?”

Yan Qingchi smiled, “I suddenly felt that you’re actually pretty adorable.”

Wei Lan snorted, “Was it really ‘sudden’? Did you not clearly see my adorable nature a couple days ago?”

His brazen words made Yan Qingchi laugh heartily. He contemplated Wei Lan, thinking that if he (YQC) hadn’t transmigrated, then when his own younger brother grew up, he (YQC’s younger brother) would probably be similar to Wei Lan: a young man who did not know the taste of sorrow, baring his fangs and brandishing his claws12 while also being ingenuous and adorable in nature. It was just a pity that he (YQC) wouldn’t be able to see it13. When Yan Qingchi thought about this point, he couldn’t help feeling melancholy.

Wei Lan, seeing his mood take a nosedive, asked, “What’s wrong?”

Yan Qingchi looked at the culprit in front of him who made him recall his past. He couldn’t resist reaching out and pinching Wei Lan’s face. Wei Lan pinched him back. And then, Zhang Cheng and Guan Mei witnessed their respective talents’ IQs plummet to child level like they were on a drop tower,14 “grappling” with the other party’s talent.

The Author Has Something to Say:

Yan Qingchi: I miss my younger brother. I miss my parents.
CEO Jiang: head rub, don’t be sad~
Yan Qingchi: It’s all Wei Lan’s fault. Hit him!
Wei Lan: What do I have to do with it? This is a pot that came flying from above (the skies/heavens)! I’m vexed!

Thanks for reading my translation!

Footnotes

basically if YQC is saying that if JMC is present, then he won’t appear (and vice versa)Trying my best to translate “你怼我还真是一怼一个准啊。”Here’s the raw for your reference: “上辈子是皮皮虾吗?这辈子不皮不能活?” So mantis shrimp in Chinese is “皮皮虾 (pípíxiā; literally Skin/Leather/Fur Shrimp)” and “皮一下” (píyīxià) is an internet buzzword, with the “皮” here meaning “调皮” (tiáopí, naughty/mischievous/unruly). So it’s a pun that’s lost in translation. Maybe “Would he die if he didn’t stop his antics?” could be another way to translate it.Something like this? . Not too sure about this, but I have seen it around in this context崽 (zǎi) – child / young animal. More recently, it’s also used as a way to affectionately call someone in a cute way??? I don’t know how to explain. Not sure about this but the raw was “你可当呢“ and Baidu question/answers like this one are telling me that this is Ankang (安康, Ānkāng) dialect?
