Yan Yan was born in China, but she moved to London with her family after she turned 5 years old. She had remained in Europe until she was 15 years old, so she could speak British English flawlessly as well as carry out basic communication in several other European languages. Regarding Japanese, it was something she purposely learned later on.

But, honestly speaking, Tang Tang feels she truly does have some talent for languages.

She mainly speaks Chinese and English, but because German and English are from the same language family, her German is also pretty good. Sometime later, she spent half a year in Spain, so she is capable of speaking Spanish too. As for French and Italian, who belong to the same language family, she has reached the level of being able to engage in simple conversations.

Back then, her agent created a public persona for her, saying she was fluent in eight different languages. In fact, she knew a total of eight languages, but it was a mishmash with different levels of proficiency. Tang Tang was afraid of this public image collapsing and attracting mockery. As such, whenever she had free time, she would study up on the languages that she was not very good at.

Tang Tang thought that the public persona her agent created was already very exaggerated.  The result was that the novel’s author would fabricate a step further.

The Yan Yan in the fan fiction was proficient in 12 different languages. The 12 languages consist of different language families. She can also smoothly transition back and forth between languages without having to stop and think about her words. The author particularly liked to boast about Yan Yan’s British English and repeatedly mentioned in the novel that Yan Yan’s English sounded like the aristocrats from the medieval times.

There was a passage in the novel that was a pretty accurately portrayed reality and it was about the time when Yan Yan delivered her acceptance speech in three different languages.

But now, the present Yan Yan deviated from the novel’s Yan Yan, who was proficient in 12 different languages and customarily used British English. She unexpectedly could not speak Japanese and it was clear that she was even speaking American English?

Tang Tang fell into a rare daze.

Could it be that this is not Yan Yan of this world who was proficient-in-12-different-languages with an IQ of 150?

Tang Tang looked down at the comments. The number of comments congratulating her for winning the award was enough to hide the sky and cover the earth. Mixed in there were also many who complimented Yan Yan’s spirit.

[I must say that Yan Yan has the best temperament out of the female stars I have seen. There’s no comparison.]

[The youngest Tokyo Movie Queen. She really brought glory for our fellow countrymen!]

[Yan Yan’s English too good, right? Those who cannot even pass the CET-4 must be dying of jealousy.]

[Professionals can tell that Yan Yan’s English is very good. Her spoken language does not sound too homely.]

[So where did Tang Tang get the nerves to ridicule Yan Yan and even dared to say that she was the next Yan Yan?]

Tang Tang: …

Everything was perfectly fine. Why did you bring up Tang Tang again?

Is this an anti-fan? Otherwise, this could be a fan of a former teammate.

Tang Tang clicked on this comment, searched around, and saw traces of calls made to Su Can.

Tang Tang silently applauded herself for guessing correctly. By the time she exited this person’s home page, this comment was already rose to the top for receiving the most likes.

[A sweet little mouth. If you can speak then say more.]

[Can we stop mentioning this person that hurts my eyes?]

[A person like Tang Tang who has not even finished her nine years of compulsory education, touching porcelain, are worthy of Yan Yan?]

They dragged Tang Tang out for a flogging and scolded her for touching porcelain. Oh, Tang Tang is truly very wronged.

She originally thought that this world’s Yan Yan was the other version of herself from the novel.  She was even prepared to find an opportunity for them to get acquainted. Now, however, she discovered that it was someone else. Seeing a screen full of comments supporting Yan Yan and mocking Tang Tang, Tang Tang was suddenly no longer in the mood.

Further down, there was finally a fan of Tang Tang’s who spoke out. The fan could no longer bear it and asked could they not bring Tang Tang into the scene. The result was that the fan was besieged from all sides.

[Previously, when Tang Tang brought Yan Yan into the scene, did she pay an appearance fee?]

Line after line, dozens of commenters came together to pay their respects. The little fan was scared and no longer dared to speak another word. After reading the comments, Tang Tang felt bad for the little fan. [Hello, are you reading on Cl ear Spr ings . com?]

Once again, she scrolled down past a few more comments and finally found an honest critique.

[I am a fan, not an anti. Only, I have some misgivings. Isn’t Yan Yan accustomed to speaking British English? Why did she speak American English this time?]

Tang Tang’s finger paused and clicked on the comment.

[Another stupid c*nt who thinks British English sounds better than American English.]

[She spoke British English before so she cannot speak American English now?]

[There isn’t a big difference between American and British styles. Perhaps Yan Yan was influenced since she went to the United States recently. Besides, she has such a great talent for language, so it is normal for her to speak both British English and American English, ya ~]

Ya you big headed ghost.

But anyway, why doesn’t she remember herself going to the United States during this point in time?

Tang Tang conveniently found the Weibo that belonged to this world’s Yan Yan. She did not need to scroll through even two articles before she saw a selfie. The location was indeed in the United States.

Tang Tang looked at the date. It was dated a month ago.

Tang Tang guaranteed that, the her in reality, definitely did not go to the United States a month before the Film Festival.

Tang Tang frowned, returned the phone to her bag, and sat quietly in the back seat.

The Yan Yan in this world is not her and nor is she the Yan Yan from the novel. Rather, it was an entirely different person. [Read this at Cl ear Spr ings . com]

Additionally, this person became this world’s Yan Yan at least a month ago.

Tang Tang knitted her brows so tightly it could form a ball.

The vehicle slowly came to a stop in front of Tang Tang’s former home.

This is an old community. It was originally bought by Tang Tang’s adoptive father when he was still alive. After her adoptive father died, Tang Tang and her adoptive mother continued to live here.

Tang Tang’s adoptive father was good at running a business. He originally accumulated a lot of property for the family. When he died, he did not have any siblings and his two children were still young, so the business could only be handed over to her adoptive mother.

Unfortunately, her adoptive mother did not have the brains to run a business. Tang Tang recalled a point mentioned in the novel – after Tang Tang suffered a complete defeat, fell from grace and landed in a tight spot – where she incidentally found out that her adoptive father left her 40% of the inheritance.

Before he died, her adoptive father divided his inheritance into three parts. Tang Tang got 40% while her adoptive mother and sister received 30% each. However, because Tang Tang was still young, her adoptive father entrusted her adoptive mother with Tang Tang’s share and to hand it over to her when Tang Tang became an adult.

Tang Tang did not know about this matter until the very end. Consequently, Tang Tang went to ask for the inheritance that rightfully belonged to her. Unfortunately, her adoptive mother obstinately refused to give it to Tang Tang. At the time, Tang Tang was estranged from everyone, had no one to help her, and had no money on hand to hire a lawyer. The two fought with each other in a dog-eat-dog manner, neither able to gain an easy advantage.

Ming Shaoyan already investigated and knew where her adoptive mother resided. Uncle Li sent Tang Tang to the location and left.  Tang Tang glanced around the community and felt she was put in a difficult situation.

She basically did not know which one is Tang Tang’s previous home. Even if the novel was written in greater detail, it was unlikely to describe which building and which house the supporting female character used to live in.

What to do?

The midday sun was very strong. Tang Tang hid under the shade of a tree, got on her mobile phone to see if she could find records of anything, such as an address from express delivery receipt or the like.

TN: Hmm, I wonder if this Yan Yan will be a friend or foe?  TBH, I have not read very far ahead and am going to stick with reading as I translate from now on.  However, I do have a theory. If you go back and read one of the early chapters, I think the author gave us a hint. Forgive me for not stating it clearly here. I have been told that my predictions are usually spot on so it could end up spoiler-ish to some people even though it is just my guess.

She just crouched down for not even one second when a pair of white shoes entered her view. The owner of the pair of white shoes obviously had nice and soft voice, but spoke with derision, “Ai yao! I wondered who it was. Our superstar has returned, ah.”

[TN: 哎吆 Ai yao is just a sound.]

Tang Tang narrowed her eyes and lifted her head. The young girl in front of her was wearing a short skirt and white shoes and had her hair tied in a high ponytail. She was quite pretty, with a voice that matched her sweet appearance.

Tang Tang put away her mobile phone and stood up. Her gazed landed on the school’s name badge on the young girl’s chest.  Longcheng High School, Tang Xin.

[TN: Author uses 龙城附中 for Longcheng High School here, but later on switches back to 城大附中 Chengda High School.]

Tang Tang’s good younger sister.

Tang Tang stood up, and once she stood, she realized she was quite a bit taller than the Tang Xin before her.

It was then that Tang Tang remembered Tang Tang’s character setting in the novel. She possessed an angelic face with a devilish figure, the ideal height of 172 cm, and the golden body ratio with long legs and a slender waist. At the time, when she appeared on the talent competition, many beauties were instantly eliminated by her.

[TN: Author said 秒杀, which is sec-kill or insta-kill, but it did not flow as well in the sentence.]

She did not think much of it before, but now, looking at the top of Tang Xin’s head, Tang Tang was pleased.

This height, she likes it.

Tang Tang did not immediately speak. Tang Xin felt angry when faced with this kind of attitude from Tang Tang. Furthermore, she does not know why, but after not seeing her for three months, it seemed as if Tang Tang became even more beautiful. This fact made Tang Xin even more depressed.

Since they were young, her father had always favored Tang Tang. She was obviously her dad’s daughter, but as long as Tang Tang existed, she and her mother would always come second. Later, after her dad died, Tang Xin cried for several days before she realized that from now on, Tang Tang finally has no one to cover her again. From then on, Tang Xin, who was just 7 years old, found her long lost happiness after her father’s death.

However, as Tang Tang slowly grew up, everyone who has seen her have said that they have never seen such a beautiful girl before. They also said none of the celebrities on television were as good looking as Tang Tang. Tang Tang clearly has no one protecting her, but the one everyone paid attention to was still Tang Tang.

Tang Xin was unresigned, so she devoted herself to studying, using her excellent grades to exchange for praises from others. She was subsequently admitted into S City’s best high school, while Tang Tang could only stay at No. 12 high school where all the bad students gather.

[TN: In chapter 4, the author used No. 9, but now she changed it to No. 12  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ ]

Each time she knew about Tang Tang’s unsightly grades, Tang Xin could not help but feel excited. What is the use of being beautiful? The only ones by your side are those uneducated and incompetent degenerates. It is this way now and even more so in the future.

She knew that Tang Tang was not reconciled. She always remembered that there were so many people who praised her as better looking than celebrities. Therefore, when Qing Yang mentioned that she wanted to participate in the talent competition, Tang Xin told Tang Tang all about it. [Please read this on ClearSprings(.)com. Thanks!]

Since childhood, Qing Yang learned ballet, could play the piano, and could play violin. Her family was also very well off. She would definitely be selected. But, what did Tang Tang have? She had not strong points other than her face. At that moment, her best friend was going to be a star so Tang Xin did not hold back and mentioned this matter in front of Tang Tang to stimulate her.

However, she never expected that Tang Tang really took it to heart. She even went as far as to tail her and Qing Yang to the venue for the talent competition draft.

Back then, S City was just one short of their quota. After Qing Yang’s performance, she was basically guaranteed the spot. It was at that moment that Tang Tang showed up.

As a result, the last spot was snatched by Tang Tang.

Once Tang Xin recalled this matter, she felt so regretful that her teeth itched. Because Tang Tang was her “older sister,” Qing Yang almost broke off their relationship.

Anyway, it no longer mattered. Tang Tang ruined herself. She cut off her own path of retreat. Qing Yang said that if no one supported her, Tang Tang will not be able to rise again for the rest of her life.

Tang Tang is an orphan with no mom and no dad.  Heh.  Who would support her?

“What? Been away from home for so long that you don’t even remember your home?” Tang Xin could not help but mock, “What a pity. You left for three months and could not even get into the top nine. If you had a bit of self-awareness, you would not have stolen Qing Yang’s opportunity…”

Tang Tang felt a headache from her speech.

“If you say another word, I will tell Qing Yang that you were the one who deliberately told me about the talent competition draft.”

Tang Tang spoke ruthlessly.

Tang Xin’s face immediately turned white.

At the time, Qing Yang did not understand how Tang Tang knew about the draft. Tang Xin was scared and afraid to admit that she was the one who told Tang Tang. Thus, she could only say that Tang Tang followed her and coincidentally saw it.

Even though Qing Yan was angry, she also felt this matter is not her fault. If Qing Yang found out it was actually because she leaked the matter…

Tang Xin immediately felt anxious, “You dare?!”

Tang Tang used her hand to block the sun, “You will see whether I dare. Not leaving yet?”

“Why don’t you leave?!”

Because I don’t know where I am going, ah. Tang Tang put her hands in her pockets, “It’s because I lost my keys.”

“What should we do if someone picked up the lost key? If our home is burglarized one day, it is definitely your fault.” Tang Xin scolded unhappily while she walked. When they got to the hallway entrance, she suddenly remembered something. Tang Tang turned her head and smugly said, “I almost forgot. You inexplicably missed school for a whole three months, so you have been expelled from No. 12 High School…”

Oh. Really. Tang Tang gazed at Tang Xin expressionlessly.

Her mobile phone buzzed and vibrated all of a sudden. Tang Tang pulled out her mobile phone. It was the handsome little secretary that worked alongside Ming Shaoyan.

[The enrollment procedures for Chengda high school has been completed. You can start classes next Monday.]

Chengda high school? Isn’t this precisely the school Tang Xin attends?

Tang Tang immediately felt happy.

Say, is this a coincidence or not?

Tang Xin saw that she not afraid of being mocked, widened her eyes, and again reminded, “I said you were expelled, didn’t you hear?”

“I heard,” Tang Tang put away her mobile phone. “Why were you so loud? If they expelled, then they expelled. It’s fine if I just change schools.”

It’s fine to just change schools?

Heheh. Tang Tang rolled her eyes. With your grades, what proper school would want you?

As for the other schools, you cannot get in without money. My mom has no plans to pay for her to attend such an expensive school.

“Then we will have to see if there are still any schools that want you.” Tang Xin squeeze through from behind Tang Tang and opened the door. Her adoptive mother, who was watching television inside the room, heard the noise and walked over. “Xinxin is back. Today, Mommy bought…”

Before she finished speaking, she caught sight of Tang Tang behind Tang Xin and put on an exaggerated smile. “Ai yao, our superstar has returned, ah. You are so capable so why did you come back, ah?”

Tang Tang commends them. They deserve to be mother and daughter, even their words are the same.

“Came back to get some things,” Tang Tang said.

Her adoptive mother sneered, “Just the worn-out playthings in your room, are they valuable?”

Tang Xin caught on to something and said with surprise, “Came back to get things? Where are you going?”

It is not necessary to explain to you where I am going, so Tang Tang did not answer Tang Xin. Instead, her gaze fell on her adoptive mother.

Once Ming Shaoyan established a foothold in the entertainment industry and their relationship eased a bit, she will confess her true identity to Ming Shaoyan. As for what the consequences would be, Tang Tang could not make any guarantees. Therefore, before that, Tang Tang thinks it is essential take back her share of the money so that she will have assets on hand.

“I became an adult last month, so regarding the promise you made to Dad about handing over 40% share to me when I turn 18 years old, when do you plan on returning it to me?”
