Shortly after the New Year passed, when Ruan Xi was about to give birth, Mu taifei suddenly wrote an imperial decree which sent two delicate and charming beauties to Wen Ting Zhou. 

懿旨(pinyin: yi zhi) – an imperial decree from a woman (who is implicitly virtuous or exemplary), typically the Empress. This term differs from 奉旨 (feng zhi) or 圣谕 (sheng yu) which explicitly comes from the Emperor himself.

Mu taifei‘s decree made everyone dumbstruck. 

Then, someone connected it to the fact that the Mu Family’s illegitimate daughter in the Fourth Prince’s back courtyard had recently miscarried because of the palace maids that Ruan fei sent, and they silently pitied Ruan Xi who was on the receiving end of that anger. 

Wen furen‘s visage was brimming with rage. 

Yet, against all reason, Mu taifei‘s position was above worldly considerations, and the beauties that she sent had to be accepted. 

Wen lao-furen was older than Mu taifei, but she was from the same generation as Mu taifei, and Mu taifei occupied the elder position. 

Speaking of which, Mu taifei could technically claim a bit of familial relation with the Wen Family too. 

The beauties she bestowed upon her son, were not something Wen furen could reject. It was all the fault of the in-palace Ruan fei niangniang; she instigated the problem and now it implicated her son and daughter-in-law. 

Feeling aggrieved in her heart, Wen furen could not stop herself from throwing her anger at Ruan san niang. 

“Xiao Xi, we will be wronging you for the time being.” Wen furen suppressed her ire as she comforted Ruan Xi. 

And who could be certain that the beauties sent by Mu taifei didn’t harbour any evil intentions?

Similarly, she had just learned that Ruan san niang‘s act of sending palace maids had pitted the female protagonist, Mu Qing Ci, and caused her to miscarry. 

Mu taifei should have met Mu Qing Ci during the palace banquet, and it was more than likely that she was already quite fond of Mu Qing Ci, as seen in the novel. 

Mu Qing Ci’s miscarriage, made Mu taifei fly into a rage. 

It was estimated that Ruan san niang had her share of troubles, except she had the Emperor’s protection, and in addition to the appearance of cement, Ruan san niang‘s reputation had reversed overnight, thus gaining increasing popularity among the common folk. 

Mu taifei did not dare to retaliate against her lightly. 

She was probably the target that Mu taifei had redirected her anger towards. 

Ruan Xi merely needed a single thought to comprehend everything. As expected, Ruan san niang was a time-delayed/sporadic grenade. 

“Perhaps it should be left to me to handle. I’ll look for an excuse to allow Mama Chen to educate them for two months first, and we’ll wait until you’ve peacefully given birth to the child before dealing with them.” 

“One will be troubling Popo.”

Ruan Xi did not reject it after she thought about it briefly. She did not want to place these two delicate and charming beauties in the Harmonious Dwelling either.

Just as Mamma Chen was bringing the two beauties out of Harmonious Dwelling, Wen san xiaojie stuck her foot in horizontally, and stopped Mama Chen from bringing them away.

“Mama Chen, one has heard that Mu taifei sent those two beauties to serve da ge, is it these two? Da ge is truly fortunate to have these two beauties with pretty countenances to attend to him.”

Wen san xiaojie said as her gaze glinted.

“Mama Chen, where are you planning to bring the beauties that Mu taifei bestowed upon da ge to?”

Mama Chen secretly thought that this was bad, but she was still respectful on the surface as she replied: “Third Young Lady, Furen has instructed nubi to educate these two beauties for a month or two before arranging them to serve Da Shaoye.”

Wen Yu Wei’s pupils shifted. It was not possible to allow Mama Chen to bring those people away; this was a great chance to give vexations to her eldest sister-in-law.

“Mama Chen, while it is said that Mother arranged for it, they should be allowed to meet da ge first, don’t you think so?”

The two beauties shot a grateful smile at Wen Yu Wei.

It goes without saying that they were not willing to be brought away just like this, since this was a chance for them to turn over and become masters.

Mama Chen’s complexion sank. Even if she was under Furen‘s orders, the Third Young Lady was a master whilst she was slave; she had no way of forcibly bringing the two away when they had landed in the Third Young Lady’s hands.

Hence, Mama Chen decided to ask for instructions from the Shao Furen inside the courtyard.

In truth, Ruan Xi had already learned of Wen Yu Wei’s actions from Su Yu.

Once her servants reported it, Ruan only smiled faintly, “Let her.”

The weather after the New Year was quite cold. If they liked being blown by the cold winds, that was their business, Ruan Xi did not feel the slightest pity.

This was their choice.

Upon receiving Shao Furen’s reply, Mama Chen left, and Wen Yu Wei smiled in satisfaction. 

The two delicate and charming beauties revealed joy on their faces.

Then, Wen Yu Wei dispatched her servants to send hand-warming stoves because these were people that were supposed to repulse her eldest sister-in-law. What was she going to do if they suffered from the cold?

Beauty A had a slender figure and dainty demeanour. Her entrancing eyes were staring at Wen Ting Zhou’s handsome visage fixedly, and her voice was akin to oriole’s warble, melodious and sweet-sounding.

However, her words were anything but pleasant to the ears.

Zhang Qing’s lips twitched.

“That’s right, Wen daren, we are under Mu taifei’s orders to attend to you.” Beauty B chimed in with a delicately timid tone. 

“Zhang Qing, send them to a farmstead!”

Wen Ting Zhou’s gaze was sharp and deep, imposing manner oppressive, and his tone of voice ice-cold.

Ever since he entered the court and became an official, Wen Ting Zhou appeared to be mild and gentle as always, but the reality was that he was forceful, harsh, and cold. If that were not the case, he would not have sat on the position of the Minister of the Board of Punishments in the future. 

The two beauties’ complexion paled instantaneously. They wanted to bring out Mu taifei again, but when they saw Wen Ting Zhou’s chilling and bone-piercing glare, their hearts shuddered. Not daring to make another sound, they were brought away by the servants while feeling aggrieved.

With a sunken expression and worry for Ruan Xi swelling in his heart, Wen Ting Zhou stepped into the bedroom of Harmonious Dwelling in quick strides.

“Husband, have you seen the two beauties outside the courtyard?”

“Yes, they’ve been sent to a farmstead.”

Ruan Xi was overjoyed in her heart; she liked the fact that Wen Ting Zhou was straightforward and resolute when dealing with other women.
