“You- Why did you have to be angry with that Zhou Siyu? Did you know that during the audition just now, as soon as I mentioned that I wanted to switch her, Ji Lin immediately refuted on the spot?” In a private room in a hotel restaurant, Chairman Wang explained to Xu Qingwan with an annoyed expression, “Ji Lin is the young master of the Ji family. Once he’s opened his mouth, can I not sell him this face? Seeing him so protective of Zhou Siyu, perhaps those two have some kind of friendship in private. What if just because of this trivial matter, Ji Lin went back and complained to his parents?”

Xu Qingwan kept pressing him for answers. Chairman Wang had no choice but to call her out and explain. The reason why he was so polite towards Xu Qingwan was only because Xu Qingwan had helped him a lot.

Come to speak of it, Chairman Wang also felt that it was odd how this woman didn’t look so impressive, but she actually had a very unique insight. It was due to listening to Xu Qingwan’s advice that Chairman Wang’s big investments had consecutively scraped past the pitfalls and earned him great profits. His position was rising with the tide and thus Xu Qingwan also got a lot of shares. Now she could be considered a small shareholder.

However, Chairman Wang didn’t understand. Since Xu Qingwan was so incredible, why would she want to charge head-first into the entertainment circle? Why not just sit back and receive the share profits? Nevertheless, Xu Qingwan begged him to help pave a way for her. Because this woman was really useful, it was difficult for Chairman Wang to reject her. If it’s just throwing money to help Xu Qingwan snatch a role, then that’s fine. However, it wasn’t fine to offend the Ji family!

“Ji Lin, he……” Xu Qingwan’s hands on her knees unconsciously clutched her skirt tightly. She lowered her head to cover the resentment in her eyes. She managed to force out a smile and said to Chairman Wang, “I know what you’re worried about. You can rest assured. The Ji family would definitely not help keep Zhou Siyu.”

After knowing the reason why Chairman Wang did not persist in replacing Siyu, Xu Qingwan’s heart was even more determined. Xu Qingwan had been the daughter-in-law of the Ji family in her past life. No one knew better than her how much Madam Ji, Duan Rulan, hated Siyu. In this world, perhaps the one who hoped the most that Siyu disappeared was her own biological mother…..

Xu Qingwan silently thought in her heart, “I’ m sorry Ji Lin, I don’t want to do this either.” However, if Ji Lin continued to mingle with Zhou Siyu, that kind of woman, it will definitely cause a rift between mother and son. She was just preventing this kind of situation from occurring beforehand, it was all for Ji Lin’s good!

Sooner or later, Ji Lin would understand her painstaking effort!

……

After the audition for 《Qing Guo》 ended, the list of the prospective candidates was announced on the same day. Unsurprisingly, Siyu saw her name on it. She would play as that princess of the subjugated nation, Yun He. She didn’t have many scenes; they could be finished in several days. Hence, after Siyu gave Yu Ling a call to announce the good news, she stayed at the hotel which the production team had arranged and waited for the shooting to start.

Her new assistant, Chen Yue, was a person who couldn’t stay idle. Once there’s free time, she liked to drag Siyu and take all sorts of selfies. Several days in, her phone’s photo album was completely full. Seeing her so enthusiastic, Siyu gave Chen Yue the Weibo account number of her “Zhou Siyu Yuyu” to manage. Chen Yue, as if gaining the most precious treasure, basically posted a nine-photo-set of Siyu’s self-portraits a day. [T/N: 鱼鱼 Yuyu – Fish fish/fishie, a play on words for Siyu’s 雨 which is a homophone for fish 鱼. It is also the theme behind her name Koi]

“…..Do you have to go that far? If you post so frequently, wouldn’t it make them more likely to be tired of the beauty?” In fact, Siyu couldn’t comprehend Chen Yue’s passionate love for taking selfies. In her opinion, the things she drew were cuter than her pictures. Besides, she looks sickly every day. What’s so good-looking about that?

Chen Yue fiddled with the camera and said, “Siyu-jie, the fans all want to see you often. We braised fishes have a lot of people who rely on your pictures to recommend you to others.” Especially a fanatical fan whose id was called “Braised Fish Head”. They would express their love under Siyu’s Weibo eight hundred times a day. Since Chen Yue was managing the Weibo now,  she would receive daily good morning and good night greetings from this “Braised Fish Head” as well as various secret recipes for healthy living gathered from who-knows-where.

Siyu: “Braised…. what?”

Chen Yue, knowing that she had slipped up, covered it up quickly, and evasively answered, “It’s nothing.” She looked at Siyu’s rough sketch and asked curiously,” Siyu-jie, so you know how to draw?”

Siyu nodded, “En, I’m drawing for fun.”

Because it’s estimated that she had to stay there for a period of time, Siyu specially asked Chen Yue to pack her drawing tools and bring it with them. Thus when they had free time like this, she could stay at the hotel and continue drawing her comic.

That 《Fashion Strategy》already had a lot of chapters. At present, Siyu was the author promoted by Qu Man. Moreover, now that her comic has become so popular,  people have discovered that it was more convenient to access serialized comics on the internet than to follow them in the usual monthly magazines. As the pioneer of this movement, Siyu soon became popular, and the Weibo of @A Koi That Can Live For Another Five Hundred Years accumulated over two hundred thousand fans.

A few days ago, Mu Yan, the editor, told Siyu that some publishers had taken a fancy to her works and were now negotiating the issue of publishing books. If all went well, the first edition of the comic would appear on the market by the end of the year.

Hearing this news, Siyu was very happy. Although she was confident in her own strength, being able to make many more people notice her comic was naturally a good thing. Feeling excited, she quickly took advantage of the time before the shooting started. She hid in the hotel and nicely revised that short comic about autism with Beibei as the model. Then, she sent it to Mu Yan.

The name of this comic was called 《Ol’ Father Cat》. It’s about a little boy who originally lived a happy life. Suddenly, one day there was a major unforeseen event in his family. His father encountered a traffic accident and became comatose.  Meanwhile, the boy’s personality vastly changed. He became autistic and locked himself in his room all day long. He didn’t communicate with others and refused to come out. Later, the boy’s family picked up a stray tabby cat and brought the cat to the boy’s side in hopes that it could cheer him up again. This cat was extraordinarily clever and could understand human words; it seemed like it could just do anything. Under the tabby cat’s accompaniment, the little boy’s illness gradually improved. And it was at this moment that the tabby cat finally told the boy that he was actually his father. After the car accident that year, the father’s soul attached to a cat. He spent a lot of effort to return to his son’s side and accompanied him as he walked out of his autism. It turns out that the person whom the boy thought had long left him had always been by his side all along.

Beibei liked this story very much. She seemed to be able to find a resonance with the little boy in the comic. Seeing how much she loved it, Siyu directly gave her original script to take back home. Nevertheless, this was Siyu’s first attempt at drawing a non-dog-blood comic. Therefore, after sending the manuscript to Mu Yan, she was actually a bit nervous.

The length of the comic wasn’t long, but Siyu waited for an entire hour and more before she got a reply from Mu Yan. As soon as she came online, she sent a bawling sticker.

Siyu hurriedly asked: “What happened?”

Mu Yan said: “Koi, you made me cry so hard that I couldn’t breathe. I was almost caught by my subordinates. Fortunately, I hid in the toilet in time, otherwise, my reputation is done for. My eyes are still swollen as we speak!”

Siyu: “Then do you think…… this comic can be published?”

Mu Yan unhesitatingly answered: “No problem, it must be able to be published !”

After thinking about it, Mu Yan sighed: “In fact, I think it would be more suitable if this story could be adapted and put on the screen. But which child star could perform this……”

Siyu’s mind commented that Mu Yan truly thought far. She said, “I didn’t think that far. At that time, it was because my friend’s daughter was autistic and I felt that it was a pity when I looked at her, that I thought of drawing this comic.”

Mu Yan was quick-witted. She immediately thought of something, “Right, since the theme is about autism, I think we can try to collaborate with a few children institutions. For example, establishing a funding platform or something. After that, we can use your comic to publicize it. In this way, we can kill two birds with one stone!”

Mu Yan’s suggestion just happened to fit with Siyu’s original intention. With this base, Mu Yan suddenly became full of motivation and hurriedly left Siyu with a sentence ‘don’t stop with the updates’. Then, she immediately rushed off to get to work.

When they finished discussing about the comic, the sky had already turned dark. Chen Yue had been driven back to her room by Siyu. At this moment, she hadn’t eaten yet and was thinking of going out to buy food. However, as soon as she went out, she saw the door to the hotel room opposite her open. Ji Lin, with both hands shoved in his pockets, earphones on his ears, came out while humming a song. The two people immediately met face to face.

Ji Lin: “…..” His image!

Young Master Ji flusteredly yanked on the earphone’s cable and stuffed it in his pocket. He stood up straight in front of Siyu just like a student seeing their home-room teacher. He stealthily glanced at Siyu and said, “Siyu-jie…. Can I call you that?”

He didn’t dare to directly call her jiejie and could only settle for the second-best thing. Young Master Ji thought to himself, ‘He had helped her out last time in the audition. Then, he should have left a good impression in her heart, right?’

Siyu found him funny, “I don’t have any problem with that. It’s just that your seniority is higher than me. It’s not good if this was to spread.”

“I’ll only call you that in private!” Ji Lin nearly vowed to the sky. After obtaining permission, an uncontrollably wide grin split across his face. He light-heartedly asked, “Siyu-jie, are you going out to eat?”

Siyu nodded, “I didn’t pay attention to the time just now. So I intended to go and eat at the dining hall.”

Ji Lin paused, then said with a straight face, “The dining hall is already closed at this time. I know a restaurant nearby. It’s very covert and the environment is very quiet. Why don’t we go there?”

This was purely absolute nonsense. In consideration for the actors, the production team specially booked a whole floor of hotel rooms and told the dining hall to prepare food 24 hours a day. However, Siyu had been nesting in her room these past two days to rush the manuscript and her daily meals were all brought over by Chen Yue. So naturally, Siyu didn’t know this.

Siyu wasn’t suspicious at all. She pondered about it. She had never had a good talk with this younger brother of hers. Therefore, she readily agreed.

“Wait for a bit. I’ll go change my clothes I’ll be quick!” Ji Lin immediately beamed with joy. Just like a kid who had just received a candy, he darted back into his room. He was a famous star after all; naturally, he had to disguise himself when going out.

Yet the two people didn’t notice that when they were talking, there was a door that was secretly opened with a small gap. Xu Qingwan was hiding behind that door. She quietly stretched out her phone, aimed the camera at the two people, and silently took a photo.

After taking the picture, Xu Qingwan swiftly and soundlessly shut the door. She flipped through the photos that she had taken. Because the angle was very good, most of the photos looked very ambiguous. Among them, there’s one in which Ji Lin turned back with a smile towards Siyu when he opened the door to change. The photo made it seem like there was something up with the two of them.

Xu Qingwan’s expression was surly. Ji Lin had never smiled so sincerely in front of her before……. Zhou Siyu, why does it have to be her? !

The indignance of being ignored surged up in her heart. Xu Qingwan carefully picked out some of the most ambiguous photos. Then she searched for Duan Rulan’s number that was given to her by Chairman Wang and sent all of these photos to her.

After she did this, Xu Qingwan leaned against the door and sneered faintly. She believed that Madam Ji would surely like this gift of hers!

The other two people didn’t know anything about this. Once Ji Lin had once again skillfully disguised himself until his own mother wouldn’t even be able to recognize him, he led Siyu out of the hotel.  After several twists and turns, they found a narrow alley. They walked for roughly ten minutes before finally arriving at their destination.

As Ji Lin said, this restaurant’s location was very hidden. It was owned by a family. The boss seemed to be an old acquaintance of Ji Lin. Once he saw him, he immediately asked, “Still the usual? 1.5 kg of crayfish with thirteen spices?”

Without needing the boss to guide him Ji Lin took his elder sister into the room to sit. Hearing that, Ji Lin quickly told him, “Tell Aunty to cook a pot of chicken porridge too and make it a bit bland.”

The boss complied with a smile.

He turned back and saw Siyu’s curious expression. Ji Lin sheepishly grasped his hair and whispered, “They use their home-raised chicken here. It’s especially good for nourishing the body and the taste is very good. I know your physical condition is poor and you can’t eat spicy food. I won’t mess around.”

Siyu couldn’t help laughing, “Thank you. And for that time during the audition too, thank you for speaking up for me.”

Getting praised personally by his sister made Ji Lin’s earlobes go red. Fortunately, the lighting wasn’t too bright so  Siyu didn’t notice. He quickly changed the topic, “As a matter of fact, my assistant had never known that sometimes I would sneak out to eat crayfish here. Xiao Ai is very strict. If she found out, I’ll have to drink plain water and plain porridge for a month!”

Ji Lin said with a sour expression. It’s clear that he had gone through this bitter experience before. Siyu stared at his unconsciously puffed up cheeks and covered her mouth as she burst into laughter.

That’s right, she almost forgot. In the setting of her comic book, Ji Lin was a thorough food lover. He had tasted all kinds of snacks in various cities. Several times, he took out Xu Qingwan to sneak off and eat delicious foods.

Thinking of Xu Qingwan, the smile on Siyu’s face faded a bit. She wasn’t really that slow-witted. She took note of Xu Qingwan’s abnormal actions. Right now, that person was slightly far from her original setting…….

Siyu glanced at Ji Lin and probed, “Have you ever worked together with a girl named Xu Qingwan?”

Who knows which nerve of Ji Lin’s that this name provoked, his head shot up. There was a mix of a slight nervousness and uneasiness in his expression, “Siyu-jie….. Did you hear something?” Could it be that Xu Qingwan’s malicious remarks had reached his sister’s ears?

“Well, no.” Siyu decided to ask frankly, “What do you think of her?”

Ji Lin’s expression suddenly became a little bit strange. After thinking for a few seconds, he managed to find a word that wasn’t too derogatory, “She…. is a person who doesn’t do her job properly.”

If you want to work, then work properly. What’s the use of revolving around him all day?

Siyu was surprised. This evaluation of Ji Lin could be said to be very rude, which showed that he didn’t have a good impression on Xu Qingwan. However, Siyu clearly remembered that in the comic, Xu Qingwan was very diligent at the beginning. It was also because of this great effort of hers that Ji Lin took note of her. Right now…. It didn’t seem to be the case?

Thinking back to Xu Qingwan’s strange words and the inexplicable hostility towards her, Siyu’s heart sank. Could it be that the Xu Qingwan at present wasn’t the original product?

Siyu mulled over this. The two people fell silent for a moment until the pot of crawfish that Ji Lin ordered was served. Siyu returned to her senses and put on the plastic gloves. Then she helped Ji Lin peel the crawfish, “You can eat. I’ll peel it since my porridge hasn’t come yet anyway.”

Ji Lin was dumbfounded, “Siyu-jie…..”

Siyu peeled quickly and neatly. She was very skilled. For the first time, Ji Lin enjoyed the luxurious treatment of eating crawfish without the need for using his own hands and simply engrossed himself in eating. His sister also gently asked from the side if it was spicy or not and if he needed any water. When Ji Lin heard this, he couldn’t help but lower his head to conceal the sourness in his eyes.

At his family’s dinner table, it had always been him who ate alone there. The situation where a whole family sat together at the table would only happen when they’re in a social event outside. How long had he ever heard someone care for him like this?

Perhaps it was because Siyu acted casual, Ji Lin slowly relaxed and wasn’t too overcautious anymore. On the contrary,  he was able to share amusing stories that happened during work with Siyu, eliciting continuous laughter from her.

After a while, the steaming hot chicken porridge was served too. This time, Ji Lin took the lead in scooping up a bowl and put it in front of Siyu. With expectation in his eyes, he said, “Jie, you try it. I asked Aunty to add more herbs, they’re all good for nourishing the body.”

Caught up in his excitement, Ji Lin unconsciously changed how he addressed her from “Siyu-jie” to “jie”. However, he himself didn’t notice it and Siyu didn’t remind him.

Hearing Ji Lin’s words, Siyu looked at the deep red fortune on top of his head and thought to herself that it’s probably better not to tell the silly boy that his fortune was the real great nourishment…..

After just drinking half of the bowl, Siyu’s phone suddenly rang. She put down the bowl and looked at it. It was an unfamiliar number. Who could come looking for her this late?

Siyu skeptically picked up the call. Just after she said “hello”, a familiar deep cold voice came from the other end of the phone, “I had told you not to leave Jiang City for this period of time.”

Siyu: “…….??!!”

“Fi-fifth Master?” This familiar tone frightened Siyu until she almost dropped the spoon in her hand onto the floor. She somewhat nervously glanced at Ji Lin who just happened to look over with curiosity. She covered her mouth with her hand and said with a lowered voice, “Listen to my explanation….”

Fifth Master Lu unhurriedly said, “Speak.”

Siyu: “…..” But she hadn’t thought of a good speech yet!

Seeing that Siyu didn’t speak for a long time, Fifth Master Lu chuckled lowly. That slight vibration seemed to travel along with the electric current and enter Siyu’s heart, causing her to tremble.

“I take it as you’re disregarding my words.” Fifth Master Lu turned the beads, an unignorable chill underlying the mild-mannered tone. “You’re not in the hotel either. I’ll give you five minutes to walk back. Don’t let me send people for you.”

Once his words fell, that side immediately hung up the phone call.

""

“…….” Hearing the dududu tone, Siyu wanted to cry without tears: Could it be that the great demon is coming here to look for her??Why couldn’t he just spare her? !

Ji Lin, observing the flurry of expressions cross her face, couldn’t help but ask, “Jie, what happened?”

“Something big happened!” Siyu jumped up, pulled Ji Lin’s hand, and rushed outside, “It’s an important case involving a life!”
