Transmigrating with a Cleaver ch 16.1 - The City Abandoned by God

Crisp firing sound could be heard one after another. One red mist of blood after another exploded all over the poor, giant zombie’s head. Both eyes were already gone, leaving behind two dark holes in their places.

You, who had been waiting for the perfect moment on one side, noticed that the giant’s zombie’s activity level had decreased significantly. Immediately she sprang into action and, with a running start, leapt high up to the level of the giant’s zombie’s neck.

Her double swords in her hands illuminated a bright light that had never been seen before. The two streaks of lights crossed, all the way from the giant zombie’s neck to its abdomen!

The female swordsman landed lightly on her feet with her back to the giant zombie and returned her swords back into their sheaths.

The giant zombie let out a loud cry and felt backward; it’s head slowly separating from it’s body. It’s intestines and other organs spilled out from the now sliced-open stomach.

“Lancelot, right? Shall we continue our bet?” Qin Luo walked in front of the spoiled, rich kid and teased.

“No, it’s okay. I will admit defeat.” Even though he was a spoiled, rich kid, he was also a man of his words. He valued promises, especially those among his fellow men.

“I will go run naked first thing in the morning!”

“Pay me 500 gold coins and we will call it even. How does that sound?”

“I can’t do that! I will give you the gold; that’s reward for saving our lives. But I must go run around naked and call you ‘daddy.’ I am a man of my words. I don’t go back on what I have said!”

“…. Whatever float your boat.”

After finishing collecting all the brain cores, most of the others wanted to retreat, especially Lancelot, who had already lost three of his teammates.

Qin Luo saw that they still have some time left and decided to take a visit into the city. Naturally Chen Yun supported his decision; and You agreed as well.

A few of the mercenaries thanks Qin Luo one by one then left through the secret passageway.

After the three walked through the city entrance; Qin Luo immediately felt the forlornness of the city.  The stone paved streets were in tatters; the buildings all in rubbles. The city’s glory in the past was nowhere to be found.

The three of them accompanied by one cat walked down the main street. No more zombies could be seen anywhere. They were not sure whether all of them had turned to dust, or that they were eaten by their own kind.

The city was quiet and calm without more zombies appearing. But Qin Luo couldn’t shake the odd feelings that there were a pair of wicked eyes staring at him from the dark, wanting to eat him alive!

That feeling made him very anxious, but they did not notice anything out of the ordinary. He asked Chen Yun and You about it but these did not sense anything wrong.

After about 10 minutes of walking, the three of them arrived at the center of the city and in front of them stood a glamourous palace.

“This is odd, how come I didn’t see any words at all in the entire city?” Qin Luo rubbed his chin, “This doesn’t make any sense.”

“There’s an old legend in Dongsheng Continent,” You, who hadn’t said a word so far, suddenly spoke up, “A city that was despised by god does not have the rights to leave behind it’s language and words!”

Qin Luo was surprised, “Despised even by god? What kind of terrible acts have been committed by the people in this city?”

“Who knows?” You looked around. “The appearance of these zombies were very bizarre, as was the old church. It was almost like someone was orchestrating all these in the dark.
