After Ms. Yang blocked the lift doors from closing and stared at Xiang Kun for a few seconds. Xiang Kun frowned. “Are you coming in or not?”

Ms. Yang hesitated for a moment and asked, “Did… did you see Pinkie?”

She had lost her dog?

Thinking about the scene of the husky and Ms. Yang, Xiang Kun was not surprised by the missing dog.

“No,” replied Xiang Kun.

However, Ms. Yang did not seem to leave so easily. She said as she looked at Xiang Kun, “If you have stolen Pinkie, I won’t pursue the matter if you return him to me… If you want money, I can give it to you.”

Xiang Kun was confused. “Miss, I don’t think we know each other. We had only met once in the lift the day before yesterday, right? I didn’t even talk to you… Why are you suspecting that I have stolen your dog?”

Ms. Yang said, “That day… Pinkie was clearly afraid of you! He did not dare to enter the lift for days! You must hate dogs! You… If Pinkie was really stolen by you, return him to me, and I will never bring him out again, okay?”

Xiang Kun looked at Ms. Yang speechlessly and felt sorry for the husky for having an owner like that.

Xiang Kun did not hate dogs. He knew that if a dog was annoying to others, it was 90 percent due to its owner. It was similar to how a child’s behavior was due to his parents.

“I did not steal your dog and never saw it after that day. Instead of pestering me and wasting your time, you should look for it. Ask for help amongst the residents with dogs and put up some posters around. However, I urge you to search up on how to be a good dog owner after you find it. Or else, both you and your dog will suffer.”

After hearing what Xiang Kun said, Ms. Yang took a few steps back in disappointment and allowed the lift doors to close.

Just before the lift doors were about to close fully, Xiang Kun suddenly thought of something and pressed the open button. The lift door opened again.

“Ms. Yang, when did your dog go missing and where?”

Xiang Kun walked out the lift and asked Ms. Yang, who was in a daze.

Ms. Yang froze for a moment before saying, “Yesterday… Yesterday night, I took Pinkie out for a walk. I was calling my friend and he disappeared. I went around with a few friends to look for Pinkie but couldn’t find him. Do you think Pinkie was caught by some of the dog vendors… I read online that some of the dog vendors go around catching dogs to sell dog meat to steamboat stalls…” Ms. Yang was about to cry.

Xiang Kun did not bother to comfort her and asked again, “Where did you lose Pinkie?”

“At the grass patch near the center of the garden. Most of the dog owners bring their dogs for a walk there.”

“Were you holding your dog’s leash when you made the call?”

“I let go of the leash then… Pinkie got lost twice before this, but I found him within two hours. This time… he might really have been stolen…” Ms. Yang stuttered and looked at Xiang Kun. “Do… Do you want to help me look for Pinkie? I can pay you if you find him…”

Xiang Kun waved his hand and said, “I don’t need money. I will help you out if I am free. If you manage to find your dog, you should learn how to be a good pet owner.”

“Hmm, yes, if I can find Pinkie, I will send him to training…” said Ms. Yang. Although she had only seen Xiang Kun once and she thought he did not like her dog, she felt that he had the ability to find her dog and was convincing.

Xiang Kun was too lazy to continue talking to her. He walked out of the building and headed towards the garden.

Of course, Xiang Kun had not sucked up to Ms. Yang because she was good looking or because he was feeling benevolent. In fact, he was wondering if the missing dog was related to the source of the special scent.

Besides that, he wanted to test out his ability to track the smell and look for the missing husky.

The grass patch that Ms. Yang had mentioned was not too far away from his region.

In fact, most of the dog owners were not civilized dog owners. One could see dog poop around the grass patch and pavement. The dog owners did not bother to clean up after their dogs and were depending on the cleaners to clean after them.

It was almost six in the evening. Many people had gone out with their pets for a walk.

The strong scent left by the different pet dogs affected Xiang Kun’s ability to track the husky’s scent.

Xiang Kun did not need the husky’s belongings for a source, as he had an impression of its scent when he met it in the lift.

After going around the grass patch, Xiang Kun finally “caught” the scent of the husky.

There were many possible traces of the scent. Xiang Kun eliminated the direction towards his residence. Then he gradually eliminated the possibilities amongst the remaining directions.

Although it had been only three days since Xiang Kun moved here and he had spent most of his time in the mountain, he was more familiar with the area’s surroundings than most other residents because he had spent time patrolling and memorizing the area. He was especially familiar with the corners where animals liked to go, which humans often neglected.

Tracing scents in the city was especially difficult. There were too many distractions and it was difficult for the surfaces of the roads to trap the scent, causing the scents to disappear easily.

It was also difficult for dogs trained to trace scents in the city. It required immense manpower and a lot of time.

However, Xiang Kun’s sense of smell was better than that of most dogs. Moreover, he could analyze and think objectively. During the process of scent tracing, he could analyze the information based on the surroundings and deduce the possible direction of the target.

At about 11 PM, Xiang Kun finally found a clue.

However, the clue was a large pool of blood and some bunches of dog hair.

Based on the amount of blood, the husky was probably dead.

However, Xiang Kun suddenly smelled the special scent he had smelled in the mountain. It was much stronger than the scent he had detected near the rat!

It was done by that “creature”!

It was quite a distance from the grass patch where Ms. Yang had brought her dog and was rather remote.

Beside the pool of dog blood, he did not see any footprints of other animals or humans. How had the body disappeared into thin air?

However, Xiang Kun did not feel puzzled. He looked into the sky at a branch on a tree nearby. He knew that the “creature” had landed on the branch.

No wonder he could not find any traces left behind by the creature. It could fly!

The rat was probably not killed in the mountain. It was probably thrown into the mountain by the creature after it was killed.

What was it? Bird? Was there a bird that was this big? It could kill a fully grown husky?

Xiang Kun felt solemn. If the creature was an animal, it was definitely a very dangerous “beast”. If it could kill a husky, it could possibly kill humans too.

He took out his cell phone and wanted to dial 110. However, after thinking about it, he opened his WeChat application and tapped on police officer Chen’s profile.

After typing a few words, Xiang Kun hesitated again. After some hesitation, he put his cell phone away.

He looked in the distance. Although the body of the husky had been dragged off by the flying “creature”, the husky had lost a lot of blood and there should be blood traces along the flight path. Xiang Kun could use that as a clue to trace the creature.

He followed the scent and walked for several meters. Indeed, he saw a drop of blood on the grass. Then he continued walking, and he found more drops of blood on the ground.
