Chapter 54: Training in the Cafe (Part 1)

Xiang Kun reached the police station at about 10:30 AM.

Officer Chen was not in, so he had arranged for a colleague to bring Xiang Kun the documents for him to sign.

The process was very fast—less than three minutes. Then the cash reward was credited into Xiang Kun’s account. He confirmed the deposit immediately using his online banking account. It was 20,000 yuan and tax was waived.

However, before signing the document, Xiang Kun waited for over 20 minutes in the police station. However, he did not feel that it was very boring. Instead, he hoped that Officer Chen’s colleague could continue to do his own things and make him wait a little longer.

That was because during the 20 minutes, Xiang Kun “searched” the building with his senses of hearing and smell.

From the conversation between the police officers, he heard that they had caught a group of drug addicts. Amongst the drug addicts, Xiang Kun could smell a different scent from that of ordinary people.

Some of them had a special burnt scent, while some of their scents were a mixture of metal and sweat. These seemed to be scents unique to drug addicts.

Some of them seemed to be ill and had a scent of hormones.

Some were injured and smelled like blood.

Meanwhile, some of them seemed to be craving for drugs, as the smell on their bodies became stronger. They were tearing up, had runny noses, and were talking nonsense.

From the collection of scents, Xiang Kun could better help distinguish one’s actions and identity.

He even wanted to find out the distinct smell of policemen. However, he realized that it was not easy. He could only do that from the police uniforms as the uniforms had a similar scent. However, if the policemen were in plainclothes, it would be difficult to tell.

However, he smelled the unique scent of a police gun. However, most police officers did not have a gun with them. For example, Li Sheng, whom he had met on the streets, did not carry a gun with him when he was not on duty, even though he was a policeman.

Xiang Kun thought that he could identify the police from the handcuffs or some documents. However, he had to find a handcuff or documents first to record the special scent for comparison.

He even tried to eavesdrop on an interrogation. However, some of the rooms were soundproof, so it was difficult for him to hear the conversation unless he went outside the rooms.

If he could stay for a few hours in the police station, Xiang Kun thought that he could collect more scents and sounds. He could even find a handcuff and smell it when nobody was looking. Of course, that was his imagination. He would not take the risk for something so unnecessary. Moreover, if anyone saw him doing that, they would think that he was crazy.

After walking out of the door of the police station, Xiang Kun turned back and narrowed his eyes. He looked at the gigantic crest and the words “Loyalty, Integrity, Fairness” on the wall. Then he looked at the sun that was half “hidden” but extremely bright, at the top of the building.

After undergoing the transformation, his body had a repulsive reaction to sunlight. After sunrise, his bodily functions were heavily suppressed. In the past, he had guessed it was because of the temperature due to the sun. However, even if he stayed in a 18 degree Celsius air-conditioned room and felt slightly better, he could still feel the suppression of his bodily functions, and there was no improvement. Therefore, he felt that temperature was not the main point.

However, in the police station, he heard a few policemen discussing how one of the drug addicts was scalded when he was caught and was sent to the hospital.

He suddenly recalled that the healing speed of burns and broken bones were much slower than cuts.

By right, bones take longer to heal than surface injuries. However, since the surface area of burns and cuts were the same, the speed of recovery should be around the same.

Xiang Kun suddenly had an idea. Perhaps the burns had taken longer to heal because the areas had high temperatures and his healing ability was suppressed?

Maybe the suppression of about 20% was about the same as the suppression due to the sunrise?

It was very easy to prove this. He just had to do an experiment and cut off his flesh after burning himself, then tracking the time taken to heal.

However, he had to wait until sunset to conduct this experiment.

After leaving the police station, Xiang Kun did not head home immediately. He took out his cell phone and did a search. After finding a cafe 3.7 kilometers away, he walked there.

After ordering a cup of Americano, Xiang Kun sat at a corner with a good view.

Of course, he was not bored enough to drink coffee. Although he would only vomit black coffee after about 30 minutes, it was not the best drink he could drink. Apart from blood, the best drink would be water.

He had come to this cafe to continue whatever he had yet to complete in the police station. He wanted to observe and analyze people based on his sense of hearing and smell, thereby obtaining useful information.

It was a targeted training. He wanted to train the practical uses of his sense of hearing and smell.

It was like someone with extremely good physical assets. In order to become a professional footballer or boxer, one still had to undergo a lot of training.

Xiang Kun’s vision, sense of hearing, and sense of smell had surpassed those of ordinary people, but in order to perform to his optimal standards, he had to undergo all types of training.

The training he had done on the streets, in the mountain, and at the rooftop of his apartment were a part of them. Now he had to continue the other part of the training.

He had chosen a cafe because it was a half-enclosed area. It was unlikely for him to be distracted by external sounds and smells. The smells and sounds in the cafe were likely to be captured.

Moreover, the people who went to cafes would usually stay for a long time. That allowed him to have sufficient time to observe them and analyze.

It was 11:33 AM and the cafe was not crowded. Apart from two male service staff and one female service staff, there were only three other females on the first floor.

Firstly, he would try to deduce their jobs.

It was a Monday. From the amount of drinks left on the table and the extent of melted ice, the ladies had been here for more than 20 minutes. They probably did not have an office job. Or perhaps they were like Xiang Kun and were unemployed.

Two of them were sitting together. Clearly, they knew each other.

He named the lady on the long sofa lady 1 and the lady sitting on the small sofa lady 2.

Lady 2’s back was facing Xiang Kun. From the image on her cell phone, she seemed to be playing a mobile game.

Meanwhile, lady 1, who was sitting on the long sofa, looked like she was over 20 years old. She took a few selfies occasionally and seemed to be texting others. Soon, he heard the sound of TikTok.

Both of them had strong perfume scents. However, he could smell body wash from lady 2. Meanwhile, apart from the perfume scent on lady 1, he could smell her sweat. From the sweat stench, Xiang Kun guessed that she had not showered before she slept last night.

Lady 1 had heavy makeup, but it was unable to hide her tiredness and red eyes. She seemed to frequently stay up and had irregular sleep patterns.

He heard lady 2’s stomach rumble once in a while. Hmm, her stomach was not very well.

Lady 1 yawned and he saw some cavity in her teeth. Clearly, she did not care about oral hygiene. After a few seconds, Xiang Kun frowned and smelled the lady’s breath when she yawned. Hmm, vanilla latte, waffles with butter, and yogurt? From her breath, it seemed like her stomach was not very well either.

Both of the ladies were in bad health, especially their stomachs. They probably stayed up regularly and had irregular sleep and meal patterns.

However, they did not seem to be clubbers, and Xiang Kun did not smell any alcohol or smoke from them.

After a few minutes, Xiang Kun heard lady 1 and lady 2 mention the names of some news anchors. Lady 2 said that she was envious of the gift from lady 1’s fan. From that, Xiang Kun deduced that both lady 1 and lady 2 were news anchors and that lady 1 was more famous than lady 2.

Xiang Kun stopped focusing on the two ladies and diverted his attention to lady 3.

He thought that he had paid too much attention to lady 1 and lady 2, as most of the information he obtained was irrelevant and the efficiency was low.
