Chapter 30 [Third Day Part Five]

OCTOBER 24, 2021~ 8ONI

Editor : Jue

Nobody was in the mood to eat at noon.

The girls searched old lady Song’s body but found nothing. There was only an identity card with no useful information. There was no wolf poison nor civilian cards, not even a manual.

Together, the men carried the body and buried it in the sandpit by the sea. Before her death, the old lady Song wore a gold chain on her wrist. Ding Zihui carefully stored it inside the paper towel. While burying the old lady, she also put the chain in the sandpit.

Before, Ding Zihui was the one that comforted Fang Daichuan. At this moment, looking at the dead body gradually being buried under the yellow sand and the broken skull of old lady Song stained with sand and blood, there was some peculiar emotion surging inside her heart. Everyone stood silently in front of the sand, looking at the bulging tomb. The expressions on their faces were sorrowful – as they knew it could be their turn tomorrow, like the fox is sad at the death of a hare.*

“There is no wolf poison found on Mrs. Song so she is not a wolf,” Zhao Chu* looked casually at Li Sinian and Fang Daichuan and reminded out aloud, “You insisted on killing Mrs. Song.”

(T/N: Yes I know, he is dead already but that is what author wrote…[ 赵初看似不经意地看了李斯年和方岱川一眼, Zhào chū kàn shì bùjīngyì dì kànle lǐsī nián hé fāngdàichuān yīyǎn] So I am sure this a typo but I can’t exactly change the name because I have no idea who is talking, although I highly suspect this is Liu Xin based on the story so just think of this as Liu Xin? I means, author is also a human so just a note)

Li Sinian sneered, “If the old lady doesn’t run, I might not vote for her. ——You, on the other hand, are the wolf who is trying to kill me. I’m not sure who I will vote for.”

Fang Daichuan was washing his hands by the sea. He accidentally got some blood on his hands. When he heard that, he raised his head and sneered, “If there is no wolf venom, it is not a wolf? Go up to the second floor and search for them, see who can find wolf venom in the house?”

Zhao Chu pushed his glasses. “In any case, Li Sinian is the wolf I checked. Fang Daichuan can vote for me tomorrow, but I can say confidently, I will definitely vote for Li Sinian tomorrow.”

“You will vote for me tomorrow?” Li Sinian sneered, “It seems that you know very well you won’t die tonight. If it is really like you said, we two wolves are working together and you are the seer, then can you live tonight? If you still treasure your life, I suggest you shut up.”

Fang Daichuan stood aside, shook off the drops of water on his hand, and lit a cigarette.

He looked at Liu Xin, suddenly had a flash of inspiration, and asked, “You said you are a seer, then when did you go out to check last night?”

“Around 1:15 in the morning,” Liu Xin replied fluently. He pointed to the cabin behind the reef. “I checked the identity using this cabin. I know you are looking for the shoeprint this morning and whoever goes out must be a seer. The soles of my shoes are stained with sand, but I washed my shoes after I returned to the house. But anyway, I have already told you I am a seer. It doesn’t matter if I told you or not, but Fang Daichuan, I haven’t checked you yet. Before I check you, are you sure you won’t back down? If you insist, I can only mark you as a wolf.”

“Threatened me with the wolf role? Your logic isn’t clear, and you didn’t even use your seer power. You just came up and said I was a wolf. You are wasting your golden opportunity.” Fang Daichuan sneered casually on the surface, looking carefree, but his heart was sending out a warning sign. He secretly observed Liu Xin’s expression and was convinced that Liu Xin was the white shadow he saw last night!

Li Sinian was clearly aware of this, and he and Fang Daichuan glanced at each other, their eyes meeting for a moment. Fang Daichuan recalled the timeline of last night.

He left at 1:30 last night, then opened the window and saw a white shadow. The time is perfectly matched, but Liu Xin is not a prophet, so what is he going to do when he reaches the beach? Do a full set of plays? It seems to be too much.

Fang Daichuan suddenly thought of another thing.

Another thing that made him frightened. ——That window.

When he saw the white shadow and escaped to the corner, all these things happened in an instant. However, he stayed at the corner for a while, and then Li Sinian came back and they entered the room together. At that time, he glanced at the time, which was 1:50 in the morning.

——Fang Daichuan suddenly enlightened at that moment. He found the trick of this game and brought out his best acting skills.

Fang Daichuan puffed out a mouthful of smoke, curled the corners of his lips lazily, and said, “Don’t grab my lines. I’ll give you another chance. Are you sure you won’t back down?”

Liu Xin raised his eyebrows and shook his head regretfully.

“Then tell me clearly, when did you come back after checking? When you came up after the inspection, were the windows in the hallway open or closed? You’d better answer carefully. All the people who came out last night can testify, you can’t lie.” Fang Daichuan asked, pretending to be confident, as he knew the time the window was open and closed and raised his eyebrows.

Liu Xin frowned and recalled, “It was about 1:50 in the morning when I returned to my room, maybe a little over fifty. After I washed the soles of my shoes and lay on the bed, I looked at the clock. It was 2:00 in the morning. When I came up, I only paid attention to whether anyone was around. I didn’t pay attention to the windows. It seemed… that they were closed. Yes, closed! I was quite puzzled at the time. I remember the windows were still open when I went downstairs.”

Fang Daichuan froze for a moment. He felt a little strange, but he couldn’t stop acting. He repeated, “So after 1:50 am, you came up and saw that the window was closed?”

Liu Xin didn’t know why he had been obsessed with that window. He glanced at him suspiciously and nodded. “Yes.”

“You lied!” Fang Daichuan recalled the time when Li Sinian went upstairs, his mind frantically sorting out the logic. “It was 1:50 when I went upstairs, the window was clearly open at that moment.”

Chen Hui looked around, “Why do you care about that window?”

“What about you?” Fang Daichuan asked, “When did you go out?”

Chen Hui looked at Du Wei. “We went out early in the morning, four or five o’clock, when the sky was a little clear. The night is too dangerous, I’m scared.”

Ding Zihui was obviously flustered when she heard the trajectory of their actions last night. She overheard some bad “things” about Niu Xinyan and Du Chaosheng. She got feared that she would be exposed by Fang Daichuan. Seeing that Fang Daichuan wanted to ask something, she immediately interrupted, “Don’t worry about these things. The villagers may come out to find the item cards, the seer will also come out to test people, and the werewolves may also see someone going out and follow them to kill. Everyone has the time and motivation to come out. Let’s use whatever means we can to prove ourselves, ok?”

“How can I prove it?” Niu Xinyan carried the child squatting on the beach playing in the water, wrung out the water stains on his pants, and casually asked, “Recite the manual? I can’t do that.”

Yang Song’s eyes had been moving back and forth between Li Sinian and Liu Xin. She said, “There must be at least one villager between Chen Hui and Du Wei, otherwise they will not know the villagers’ manual. Boss Du is also a villager because at that time when no one spoke, he rushed to tell the manual. The beer belly man who died the first night must be in the villager faction. I’m not sure if he has a special role or not. For the time being, let’s put him aside. Which means there is still the last villager. Now among you all, who will come out and prove yourself?”

Ding Zihui immediately followed up, “The last villager is me, I can prove my identity with a card!”

“Just a card won’t prove anything,” Niu Xinyan shook her head. “Don’t forget that until now, no character cards have been found on the three deceased, just the cards aren’t really convincing.”

Fang Daichuan listened stiffly, but his mind wasn’t on everyone’s analysis. He looked at Li Sinian’s back, felt as if he was suddenly falling straight from the gorgeous aurora into the ice water of Mohe. A cold chill ran through his body.

——He found a deadly clue, enough to overturn everything he ever knew.
