“We are talking about cats, why are you scolding me?”, frowning and talking back, Fang Daichuan was still angry, he didn’t think about what Li Sinian said at all.

Yang Song is not interested in cats. She glanced and saw that Li Sinian didn’t look at her and knew that the conversation was over. From the other side Fang Daichuan looked at her defensively. She felt that both won’t give her their time so she opened the door and walked out.

“When you change your mind, come find me.” Yang Song lowered her eyes, left after speaking, she walked silently across the cashmere carpet dragging her slipper.

Fang Daichuan, holding his arms, watching him tease the cat. The cat was soaked in rain and its fur was wet and clinging to its body, making it look a little pitiful. It shook its body, splashing water all over the floor.

“How can there be a cat on an isolated island?” Fang Daichuan was a little puzzled.

Li Sinian casually pulled a tablecloth from the table, draped it on the cat and wiped the water off skillfully. His movements show that he was used to taking care of cats and dogs since he was a child as he told before. Hearing the question, he said casually, “Maybe someone brought it in when they came to this island, who knows.”

“Yang Song…what did she tell you?” Fang Daichuan endured for a long time before suddenly asking. He tried his best to pretend to be calm by asking casually, in a “casual” tone that he had thought about for a long time.

Li Sinian laughed while teasing the cat: “He said he wanted to form an alliance with us, kill Du Wei together and help find the descendants of the man who killed his father.”

“Kill Du Wei?” Fang Daichuan frowned, “Why kill him?”

Li Sinian was a little dazed. He raised his head and looked at him: “You didn’t want to kill him? You almost drugged him, you’re not afraid of his revenge?”

Fang Daichuan blinked his puppy’s eyes: “…… ah? I, I didn’t mean to really drug him, I was acting to scare Liu Xin! If he really takes you away, I, I wouldn’t – emmmm, probably won’t kill anyone. And besides, didn’t you take an oath?”

Fang Daichuan said while feeling full of confidence. “You swore an oath to the dead, you can’t kill Du Wei, God is the witness.”

“We foreigners may have been afraid of that five hundred years ago.” Li Sinian smiled playfully.

Fang Daichuan reacted very quickly at this moment: “Oh? Are you afraid that after Yang Song told me, I would form an alliance with her, kill Du Wei and break your oath?”

Li Sinian stood up with the cat in his arms, lifted one corner of his lips with a sneer: “I’m fucking afraid that you won’t be able to kill Du Wei, but will be killed by Yang Song instead.”

“You’re worried about me…” Fang Daichuan didn’t know why, but he was suddenly relieved. The layers of unhappiness that had been pressing down in his heart seemed to have suddenly disappeared. Even the black cat in Li Sinian’s arms doesn’t look so scary anymore, wet and pitiful, it looks a little cute.

He casually teased the cat and asked, “Why did Yang Song want to kill Du Wei?”

Li Sinian told him the story that Yang Song told him, and speculated: “I suspect that Yang Song’s father’s death is not as simple as she said.”

“You suspect she’s not telling the truth?” Fang Daichuan asked.

Li Sinian shook his head: “It’s not necessarily that she didn’t tell the truth. How old was she when her father died? She probably does not remember the event. According to her, it was all told to her by her mother. From what she told me, it seems that her parents had a good relationship. A widow who lost her young husband must have unconsciously glorified many things when she told her daughter about her father. I don’t know if you’ve read Ge Fei’s novel? This whole human memory thing is not always as reliable as you think.”

When Li Sinian said that with emphasis, Fang Daichuan couldn’t help but think, did he really learn about the ambiguity of memory from Ge Fei’s book? Or did he perceive it from his mother’s description of his father? How much of his parent’s love was glorified by the memory of a young woman full of romantic fantasies, a young woman who lost her old flame.

“What happened back then?” Fang Daichuan thought to himself, blurted out, “Everyone’s memory is a lie. Is the truth pieced together by multiple people’s memories really the so-called truth?”

Li Sinian was silent for a while, he then put the cat on the windowsill, ignoring the black cat’s claws on his shirt and the unwilling purr coming from its throat, and opened the window.

The black cat and Li Sinian faced each other for a while. Seeing that the human had no plans to save him, it looked back, pitifully trying to act like a spoiled child, while shrinking in a place where the rain could not hit it.

Fang Daichuan’s heart softened a bit: “Just let it stay indoors, how much space can it take up anyway?”

Li Sinian ignored the two buffoons, one big and one small, looked out at the sea and rocks in the distance and said, “I want to go down and have a look.”
