It had already gotten completely dark by the time we returned to the manor.

‘Lady!’

As the carriage arrived in front of the house, Selma ran through the entranceway and held me tight and she rebuked me for not being careful with my actions as she forewarned.

I have made Selma deeply worried so I just apologized without talking back.

Firman and Robert, who came back to the manor a little later, had relieved faces, but for some reason, the two of them looked very awkward when I met their gazes which made me slightly tilt my head in puzzlement. I wonder if they are feeling responsible for my abduction within church grounds. That was my blunder alone, so they do not need to mind.

‘Firman, Rev. Robert. I apologize for making you worry.’

‘Ah don’t be, your safety is enough.’

Rev. Robert really felt strange when he said that with a light chuckle.

On the otherhand Firman seemed regretful for leaving my side looked quite pale.

When I gave him a puzzled look, Maynard suddenly came to beckon me forward with his hand on my back. This Maynard—he brazenly breaks the three step distance rule now.

‘Hey. Stop dawdling around here already. Aren’t you hungry yet?’

‘The meals are already prepared, sir. Lady, come with me for a change of clothes.’

Selma forcefully took me by the hand, hindering me to say a thing or two to the prince. Well, my dress is all dusty and my hair is quite ruffled too. I suppose I should indeed put myself in order.

After that, Sir Berland and Maynard also joined us in dinner, but for some reason, the dining hall had a tense atmosphere to it.

Maynard is giving Firman a realyl begrudging look so the strained atmosphere is natural, but I would hope for everyone to be all smiles in front of the food.

Firman is all silent and he doesn’t really meet my gaze either. Maynard will smile at me whenever I gave him a look, but his gaze towards Firman and Rev. Robert is rigid cold. Is he blaming them for this debacle? Then he should stop. I was the one who erred.

After overcoming all the clitter-clatters, that is to say, the strangely resounding tablewares of this unpleasant dinner, I asked Maynard to explain all the circumstances, but he put it up for tomorrow instead. After that, Maynard and Sir Berland wished to stay for the night. I was surprised, but even Selma praised the idea.

Wait, Selma! Sir Berland aside, I thought you didn’t think very well of Maynard? What’s with these very welcoming ambiance you have for him now?

After that, she insisted that I must be tired and that we should rest while pushing me towards my room. At that point, my mind had now completely turned into a question mark.

I took a bath, change into my nightwear, then Selma forcefully had me lay on the bed and said Have a sweet dreams, lady, but I can’t wink a sleep at all!

I am indeed, tired, but there’s so many questionable things happening one after another that I don’t feel like sleeping at all.

Besides, for some reason, I feel like I’m being left out.

Maynard did say he will explain everything tomorrow but he also previously promised to do the same when we get home, this lying prince. Well, I guess he did not explicitly say that he will do so immediately.

I’m feeling a little fuzzy and kept rolling around above the head like a child. Both of my arms are stretched out, and from one end to another, I kept rolling, and rolling, and rolling… until suddenly, I heard a knock at the door, which surprised me so much I almost fell over.

‘Aileen, are you asleep?’

This is Maynard’s voice.

I hurriedly fixed my disordered appearance due to rolling around the bed, then after covering myself up like I was really about to sleep, I beckoned Maynard to enter.

Entering the room, Maynard lit up a lamp and came my way. He most likely left the door open to keep me at ease.

‘Sorry, did I wake you up?’

When I shook my head in response, Maynard sat at the edge of the bed.

‘Today must’ve been scary to you, is it? Do you think you can sleep?’

I see. Oh Maynard, he must’ve checked upon me thinking I will find trouble sleeping.

He was right in a way, but it was not really due to fear. I’m just feeling a little fuzzy about all the happenings.

‘Highness, the three-steps.’

‘You can hit me for that later.’

‘…’

Hey. You’re thinking that you can approach me within three steps as long I hit you, right?

When I gave him the looks, Maynard just gave me a troubled smile. Ah, I’m spot on, aren’t I? If you get too carried away my fist will fly, you know? You’ll taste my right straight, you know? I will sink my fist into your face.

‘Highness. As I thought, I really want to know what happened to day and what of saintesses.’

I can’t sleep either, anyway.

‘If I tell you, you’ll find it even harder to sleep, you know?’

‘If not, I will feel too murky to sleep, sir.’

Maynard went a small pause for a thought, then he smiled and said I guess it can’t be helped, and began speaking.
