‘And that explains all the salt?’

‘…my apologies, sir.’

Upon hearing the cause why my room—principally, the queen-candidate’s room—became full of salt, Maynard’s eyes surveyed the room dumbfounded.

I’m really reflecting on this, you know?

In the first place, to keep the demons away, you don’t splash salt indoors. You’re supposed to do it outside.

Caroline, Selma, and I were all too angry to see reason and splashed it throughout the room. But you don’t need to be rational to see that it will be a terrible cleanup afterward.

We couldn’t possibly excuse ourselves and tell the servants, ‘How careless of us! We accidentally spilled salt throughout the room. Do you mind cleaning it up?’; therefore, we are currently in the middle of exhausting everything to clean the room ourselves.

That was when Maynard came and saw the entire mess with dumbfounded eyes. Goodness, how embarrassing!

‘That aside, sir. Lina said some absurd things earlier. What’s the deal with that woman, really?’

Caroline, with a broom in her hands, asked the prince, but sir Berland, who came with Maynard, reproached her instantly.

‘You witch! I’ve told you many times to mend your way of speaking!’

‘But there’s no one else here other than dearest brother and his highness.’

My, Caroline. That ‘his highness’ that you’re talking about is the man who will become the king of this country in the future, you know? I shouldn’t be the one to talk though.

Meanwhile, Maynard just giggled as he approached me and took the broom out of my hand.

‘I’ll help.’

‘No, sir. A prince shouldn’t be…’

‘Oh, you are saving us a lot of trouble, highness!’

Carolineee!

I was flustered thinking that a prince shouldn’t be sweeping with brooms, but Caroline, was so eager to get help from just about anybody.

Sir Berland could only sigh in resignation, and after voicing his intention to help, we all looked like silly nobles in the room doing house chores.

Maynard took the broom from me so I went to wipe the tables and the shelves instead.

‘Right, you were talking about Lina marrying Savalier earlier, weren’t you?’

‘Yes, Lina came here to talk about that… out of her own way, if I may.’

Just recalling irritates my nerves to no end. Now I’m really regretting not throwing the cake at her face.

As I began scrubbing the table more forcefully to vent my anger, Maynard warned me not to break it. I won’t, silly prince! I’m not that strong!

‘Certainly, I do recall seeing Count Wagner requesting an audience with my father.’

‘…Then, I suppose it really is true.’

‘There was no talk about something like that yet, though.’

Yet, which means it’s still possible.

Until when do I have to stay in this castle? I would really hate to be neighbors with Lina when she moves here. The servants here already give me cold glares, if Lina were to move here as well, wouldn’t it be a bed of nails?

In the first place, even if she became sir Savalier’s fiancee, there was no need for her to move here. But I suppose it is also due to the rumors that she is the real saintess. Saintesses should be protected within the castles—or so as they say, right?

Upon seeing me heave a deep sigh, Maynard’s face became apologetic.

‘Please endure a little more. I’ll definitely make things more comfortable for you soon.’

What does he mean?

What’s the connection between this place becoming more comfortable and Lina moving here? Before I was able to ask him that—

‘Aileen! ? I’ve gotten rid of one of those wenches who spoke ill of you!’

My older brother Orpheus entered the room saying such violent things with a wide smile on his face. Sir Berland immediately shrieked, asking him what kind of mess has he done now.

After that, Sir Berland and Brother Orpheus started bickering back and forth with one another, and because I thought that they are going to start talking about outrageous things that I shouldn’t be hearing, I fully absorbed my mind with wiping the salts of the table’s surface.
