Chapter 76 : VS. The wraiths – Freezing Fury (Part 1)

The final stage was a world of ice and blizzard.

Countless snowflakes riding on the roaring gusts turned the entire area white.

However, what this scenery evoked was not the beauty of nature, but the thick presence of death.

The emotions of those who were haunted by death made up this world.

In any case, it was cold.

A merciless cold air penetrated through Seto’s clothes and assailed his body.

The strength of the wind and the cold almost choked him.

He was on a rocky mountain that was not particularly elevated, but whose surface was covered in snow and ice.

Just as Seto realized this, he heard the voice of a woman who seemed to be the wraith.

[My wrath has been confined in a world of ice. Without even being allowed under the sun, this burning emotion is forced into this cold, dark time. …And so, my rage gradually loses its heat.] (???)

He could vaguely make out a dark silhouette on the other side of the blizzard.

It was a lone woman with long silver hair, dressed in a nun’s habit, as if in mourning.

With her back turned to Seto, she showed him her facial profile, covered by a lacy black veil.

That fluttering piece of cloth revealed her snow-white skin and her mouth, twisted in frustration.

[——But you… Can you hear it? No matter how hard you try to freeze and contain your rage from the outside and the inside… Know that wrath never remains silent!] (???)

The wraith raised her hand vigorously, then the blizzard stopped.

Or rather, it seemed more like “time” itself had stopped.

As soon as the wind stopped blowing, the snow it was supposed to carry did not move, as if it were fixed in space.

The wraith silently clenched her fist while raising her right hand to the heavens like a musical conductor.

Right after that, jet-black wings manifested on her back.

Despite their coloring, they sparkled like jewels, gently carrying the wraith up into the air.

The moment she took off, the veil covering her face fell off.

[……!] (Seto)

Seto was unintentionally taken aback.

She was just too beautiful.

She had the face of a cool beauty and sparkling blue eyes, all of which brought to mind a high-class doll.

The black angel of this snow-white world did not smile, but merely glared at Seto.

[My name is Freezing Fury. Though I may have fallen into this icy world, my rage will never cease!] (Freezing Fury)

When the wraith opened her arms, a long black bastard sword appeared on her right, and a large black shield appeared on her left.

As soon as she equipped it, her expression instantly changed to that of a true demon of wrath.

[AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH!!] (Freezing Fury)

As the wraith shouted to the sky, the skin on her face darkened, as if roasted by fire, and peeled off as purple flames erupted.

Only her left eye, eyebrow and skin around them remained, leaving the rest of her face bare of burnt flesh and bones.

Her right eye had turned into something like a glowing red ball of energy, showing her inhuman appearance to Seto.

The boy drew his magic sword and held it at the ready.

A sensation permeates his entire body, as if the cold he was feeling had suddenly disappeared at the sight of the wraith.

It was a strange sensation, as if a gaping black hole had suddenly appeared before his eyes.

She was the master of this world, yet she harbored an unbearable wrath against it.

It felt as if her jet-black rage was rejecting this cold white world.

Perhaps she was different from all the other wraiths he had faced.

Not only in terms of combat ability, but also on a mental level.

Seto gulped in silence, wondering if she was the strongest of the four wraiths.

She raised her sword overhead and put her great shield in front of her as Seto faced while keeping his center of gravity low and pointing the tip of his magic sword at her.

A moment of silence passes between the two.

There was no wind either, so only the ambient cold air surrounded them.

Then the wraith opened her eyes, flapped her wings, and instantly closed the gap between Seto and her.

The boy reacted by slashing at her sideways.

The wind began to blow once again, and the whole scenery he first saw was back in motion.

The snow and the wind blowing hard enough to break Seto’s balance blocked his vision and hindered his movement.

He crossed swords with the wraith while almost losing to the fury of nature.

In defiance with the cold and blizzard, the evil spirit toyed with Seto using the durability of her strong shield and her nimble swordplay.

She also attacked with an overhead slash after flying higher in the sky, forcing the boy on the defensive.

She was like a bird of prey gracefully flying over her cornered quarry and playing with it.

But in reality, the wraith’s attack was nothing so simple.

The force with which she flew toward Seto was as great as a cannonball’s.

And since it was performed like a tackle with her large shield placed at the front, it was far more than Seto could withstand.

In fact, wherever Seto was, he would get blown away by the wraith ramming into him.

The least that could be said was that in terms of power and speed, she was probably the strongest of the four spirits.

[Dammit! So that’s her power. …No, I have a feeling that it’s more than just the ability to fly.] (Seto)

Sure enough, the wraith was high up in the sky, preparing something.

She spread her jet-black wings, and murmured a rage-filled curse.

[■■■■, ■■■■■■■■——!] (Freezing Fury)

The next moment, her screams turned into a wave of rage that spread across this world.

In reaction to that, the wind, the snow, and the world trembled.

Suddenly, giant ice pillars arose from the earth.

Like spears made to destroy Seto along with the world itself, they emerged one after another in the boy’s direction, altering the terrain with great vigor.

The shape of the ice was distorted.

Like thorny chucks of ice that had been forcibly twisted without any regularity.

They swallowed up the mountain where Seto was, shattering it in the process.

In the face of this attack of such an abnormal scale, the boy was helplessly engulfed by an avalanche of snow and rocks.

[Wrath… This tempestuous wrath pierces the world. Let’s now bring the breath of wrath back to our frozen destiny.] (Freezing Fury)

With a voice that sounded neither male nor female, the wraith raised her sword and fired a sword gust on the earth by swinging it down.

That gust grew into a gale of wind that carried the surrounding snow and rocks before flying to the place that used to be the mountain Seto was standing on.

With a roaring sound, the white pillar soared high into the sky.

Its destructive power was extraordinary, so much so that it left a huge crater in its wake.

[────……] (Freezing Fury)

The wicked spirit looked down at the crater from the air in silence.

She squinted her eyes to look for any sign of life.

[Did he die? …No, he survived. I see, no wonder he managed to defeat Boiling Void.] (Freezing Fury)

The wraith could sense that Seto had survived.

She figured that he was being extra cautious in order to change his battle strategy.

[Come and face me, magic sword child. I will carve my fury upon you. My fury against the world that even death could not make me forget.] (Freezing Fury)

The heartless black angel descended upon the desolate white world.

Feathers fluttered down from her jet-black wings.

This wraith possessed terrifying powers that could dye this white world in wrathful black.

She was the final stage of the trial.

Seto was resolved to challenge that threat.
