Every Yuanhai High class was notified to gather at the gym at 3:00 pm. Jin Siming and the others quickly set off for the meeting point after they finished eating.

July and August are the hottest months of the year, especially around three in the afternoon when the scorching sun is shining down on them high above. Fortunately, there is lush greenery and tall trees along the roads that shade them from the heat. In order to stay in the shade and avoid the heat, they all instinctively walked closely together near the edges of the road.

A rare cool breeze wandered through the sweltering air as Jin Siming looked down  at the sun-blown cement road in front of her in a daze.

Why is she walking with these people?

Except for Yao Jin, she’s only met the other two a handful of times. Although, Yao Jin seems to be very familiar with them.

She raised her eyes to glance at Ji Lingfei next to her. She was holding a small fan in her hand, slowly fanning her face as she raised her chin and looked ahead.

Is what Tong Fei said earlier true? That this person is actually an alpha? Did that mean she lied to her when they had met that first time in the bathroom?

Jin Siming frowned. She couldn’t understand why she lied. Perhaps she has a serious psychological condition where she can’t accept she’s an alpha to this extent?

Ah, forget it, they’re not close enough for her to worry about anyway.

She’s too lazy to expend much effort worrying about unfamiliar people, so she withdrew her thoughts and focused her gaze ahead.

She raised her head and her eyes naturally fell on Yao Jin walking in front of her.

Jin Siming is now half a head taller than Yao Jin and from her perspective, she can see the top of Yao Jin’s head as well as that curvaceous and fair neck.

Of course, what attracted her the most was the twintails on the sides of Yao Jin’s heads. Now that no one was around to pay attention to her, she unscrupulously stared at those twintails.

In order to pull off this hairstyle, one had to have a certain facial and head shape that lots of people can’t pull off. Moreover, the hairstyle isn’t very trendy these days and so even those energetic popular girls would rarely wear this style.

So, Yao Jin really hit her right in her “cute point” today. She wasn’t satisfied with just looking at them, she really wanted to….

Reach out and touch them.

Just a little touch.

She licked her lips. At this moment, the breeze strengthened and rustled the leaves above their heads. A leaf fluttered down and landed in Yao Jin’s hair.

Jin Siming swallowed and slowly stretched out her hand.

Her original intention was to help Yao Jin remove that leaf, but the moment her hand touched it the little leaf blew away with the wind and her hand landed directly on Yao Jin’s hair instead.

Her fingertips brushed against that smooth and long hair, lingering for a few moments, and before she could retract her hand, Yao Jin turned her head.

“……”

From Yao Jin’s perspective, she had caught Jin Siming red-handed as Jin Siming guiltily withdrew her hands. She blinked a few times before the corners of her mouth curled up.

She had only noticed when she got onto the bus this morning that Jin Siming was looking at her a little differently today. How should she put it, that gaze was revealing a look of….well, a look she didn’t know how to describe. If she had to find a similar word to describe it, she would say Jin Siming looks….captivated.

However, after a few more observations, she had realized that Jin Siming wasn’t looking at her body but rather focusing on her hair.

And just now she had caught Jin Siming sneakily touching her hair on the spot, which only further confirmed her suspicions.

Oho, she never thought this person would have such a….fetish.

Yao Jin narrowed her eyes, flashing her pearly whites as she smiled innocently, “I know you like them, but at least try to control yourself. There are a lot of people around us right now.”

“Cough! Cough!…”

Jin Siming suddenly gasped, bending over as she covered her mouth and started coughing violently. She felt flustered as she saw Qin Chuxuan and the others staring at her in confusion and she quickly pointed at the debris that almost blended in with the ground, saying loudly, “I just wanted to help you remove some debris from your hair! Don’t overthink it!”

“…..”

For a long while, no one responded to her words. Her nervous expression and tone seemed a little too sudden, as if she was trying to cover up something.

Yao Jin’s lips hooked upwards, “So that’s how it is. Thank you Classmate Jin for your help.”

After she finished speaking, she turned back around and continued walking forward.

Qin Chuxuan only glanced at her silently, biting her lower lip as she turned her head and quickened her pace.

They let that little incident pass, and as if nothing had happened, they continued to walk forward until they arrived at the gym.

As they got closer, they noticed everyone gathered at the entrance, but no one was going in. Jin Siming walked closer and realized that it was because another group of students were blocking the door while the students standing around outside were from their school. It seems that the students from their school were arguing with the people blocking the door.

Standing at the very front of the crowd were the class presidents of their second year classes. Although the second-years are now going to be third-years, for now the class presidents of their old classes are temporarily in charge until the third-year classes are formed.

In addition to the class presidents, Yang Xing* and a few other troublemakers, who liked to take the lead and had some influence among the students, also stood near the front. (*T/N: First mentioned in chapter 12, a minor character who is a rich, popular student and one of Yao Jin’s suitors)

Yang Xing stuffed his hands in his pockets, a lollipop in his mouth as he raised his chin and arrogantly shouted, “I say, can you Chengye High guys have some decency? The gym is open to all, so why should it be taken over by just one school like yours? You call yourselves a top school, but none of you have any manners!'”

Fang Mu cast a cold and indifferent glance at Yang Xing, his lips carrying a subtle, almost imperceptible smirk. As the Vice President of the Chengye High Student Council, he naturally was the leader of the group blocking the entrance and it was his idea to do so in the first place.

When the rising third-years come to the center for the aptitude tests, it’s not just for the purpose of determining their third-year classes but also a hidden test for the universities to evaluate the students. Their results will be recorded and used when determining who to extend interviews to. Furthermore, it is an important reference used when determining the ranking of their schools.

Chengye High is a well-known school at the top of the rankings in Shen city with a well-established reputation. Thus, they are not allowed to fall behind in any aspect.

Especially this year. Fang Mu, as a high-ranking member of the student council, will not allow his year to lose to Yuanhai and especially a vocational high school like Deshang.

Fang Mu pushed his glasses high up the bridge of his nose as he said indifferently, “My fellow student, you put things out of perspective like that. Like you said, the gym is open to everyone today and anyone can feel free to use it. However, students from our school were the first to arrive, so you must wait your turn. You can enter later when we have finished.”

Yang Xing raised an eyebrow, “And how long are you guys going to take?”

“All afternoon.”

“Fu*k off!”

Yang Xing threw his lollipop onto the ground, “How can just a few of you occupy the entire gym? And for the whole afternoon too?! You’re simply being a dog in the manger*! I’m going to report to you all!” (T/N: 站着茅坑不拉屎 The direct translation is ‘standing over the toilet but not pooping’ which means you’re preventing someone else from doing something when you have no need for it. Ofc, the equivalent English saying is dog in the manger.)

Fang Mu smiled derisively, “Go ahead.”

“Just you wait!”

Yang Xing finished roaring and turned around, moving to leave when Zhong Qi, the class president of class 5, stopped him, “It’s useless if you report him. The manual clearly states that fighting and use of force are prohibited, but doesn’t say anything against occupying public facilities and preventing others from using it.”

Yang Xing retorted angrily, “So we’re just going to let them do whatever they want?”

“We might as well try and force our way in!”

After he finished speaking, he walked straight forward but a few steps later he was blocked by two dark-skinned and muscular foreign students two heads taller than him.

“Fu*k, isn’t this against the rules?!”

Jin Simign watched their confrontation with a slight frown.

The sunlight was too strong, she couldn’t keep her eyes open.

She looked for a shady place to take shelter when a shadow appeared over her. An umbrella appeared above her along with a familiar scent.

Yao Jin stood beside her, holding an umbrella over her head to shade her from the sun.

The scorching rays of the sun were blocked and the faint scent beside her seemed to cool her down even further. She instantly felt a lot better and the discomfort in her heart disappeared.

Jin Siming glanced sideways at Yao Jin’s delicate side profile. The other party didn’t look at her nor did she speak, so she pursed her own lips and whispered a quiet thank you before looking away.

She didn’t pay attention to the stalemate in front of her with Yao Jin standing under the same umbrella as her. Her legs were awkwardly placed together as she avoided touching the other party. A little while later, she suddenly heard Yao Jin’s soft and tender voice call out.

“My hands are so tired, it’s your turn to hold it~”

Yao Jin had held the umbrella for a while now, but because Jin Siming was half a head taller than her, she had to raise her hand high in order to cover her. She felt uncomfortable after holding it for so long so she offered the handle of the umbrella to Jin Siming.

By the time Jin Siming realized it, her hand had already taken hold of the umbrella handle. It was only then did she belatedly realize that when they were walking together, she hadn’t seen Yao Jin carrying an umbrella.

“Were you the one who brought this umbrella?”

“No, it was Li Yong who forcibly gave it to me.”

Jin Siming turned her head and noticed Li Yong staring bitterly at her with his mouth curled. She smiled politely at him, as a thank you to him for the umbrella, but Li Yong’s glare only grew more fierce after she smiled.

While the people at the front were still arguing with each other, the people in the back were all silently walking away to find a place to cool off in the scratching heat. Thus the two people standing under an umbrella attracted their attention.

A girl whispered behind them, “Pst, is that Yao Jin and Jin Siming? Wuwu, it’s so nice to be in a relationship. There’s even someone willing to hold an umbrella and protect you from the sun.”

“But are they actually dating? And they’re being a bit too obvious, aren’t they?”

“What do you think? Have you ever seen Beauty Yao take the initiative to hold an umbrella for someone before?”

“Jin Siming doesn’t seem to have dated any other omega thought, right?”

“If you say it like that, doesn’t that mean she was swept up by the storm that is Yao Jin the moment she differentiated?”

“Hey! How can you call our Beauty Yao a storm!”

“Look over there, isn’t there a storm coming?”

At this moment, another group of people arrived at the gym. Tong Fei walked forward with her hands behind her back. Seeing so many people at the entrance, she frowned and said, “What are you all doing? Why are you blocking the doors?”

The new group of students squeezed forward and the crowd gave way for them. Tong Fei led her group through the crowd and walked to the front.

After getting a good look at the people blocking the door, she grinned, a trace of mischief appearing on her babyface: “Yo, what tricks are you Chengye people pulling now?”

Tong Fei stood in the front and looked around, quickly spotting Jin Siming and Yao Jin standing near the front in a very conspicuous manner. Her expression changed and she quickly took a couple of steps forward with her not-so-long legs.

She looked Jin Siming up and down, her lips dragging downwards, “Jin-Jin, you really love her…”

Jin Siming raised her eyebrows, and before she could move forward Yao Jin spoke coldly beside her.

“Shut your mouth.”
