Chapter 109 - Danger from the Sky

On the big monitor in front of Yang Tianlong appeared a swarm of large blood-red three-headed birds that completely filled the screen. They each had a pair of giant wings laid atop bulging muscles, exhibiting their vitality and strength. 

On each of the three heads was a beak that wasn’t pointy, but instead filled with spine numbingly sharp teeth. And each foot was adorned with razor sharp talons that definitely weren’t for decoration. 

“What are these things? Why are there such monstrous creatures?”

Everyone in the command center started to yell when the large three-headed birds came into view. 

This world had savage beasts that could fly, but they were mainly normal birds from the old world that had gained a little strength. Never before had something like this been seen. Some flying animals had developed teeth, but never teeth this sharp and never multiple heads. 

Seeing the large birds on the screen, some people could tell that this was a dangerous situation. The physique of the birds shocked everyone in the command center. Even Yang Tianlong, who was an eighth class cultivator, furrowed his brows in thought when looking at the birds. 

“According to the scans from the radar, the savage beasts have an approximate length of five meters. The issue is the quantity, as we detect at least a thousand of these birds. The scanners indicate that the savage beasts are all the same type.”

The man at the radar device relayed the information to Yang Tianlong. His expression showed fear and he was clearly afraid of what he was seeing. 

Hearing the young man’s words, the people in the command center all sucked in a cold breath of air. Before the radars couldn’t clearly identify the enemy, but now that they could see the enemies on the screen and knew just what they were up against, everyone could feel the room become colder by the second. 

A five meter savage beast that could fly, moreover in such great numbers. It appeared that Tianlong base would be facing its greatest challenge yet. 

So far, humans had maintained air supremacy during the apocalypse, but seeing the thousand savage beasts flying through the sky, Yang Tianlong could feel a great threat approaching humanity. 

“Start the emergency preventative and containment plans and sound the alarms again. Notify the guards and cultivators to prepare the defenses.”

What would come would come, so Yang Tianlong gave all the orders he could. 

Yang Tianlong told himself to remain calm, because if he became flustered or made a mistake, that would be an even bigger disaster. Right now the savage beasts were ten kilometers from the base, so a plan of action had to be thought of ahead of time. Only when that was done could the damage be minimized.

Lin Feng contacted Dong Wu to see what their condition was before checking the situation outside his building. 

The only thing that Lin Feng knew was that the alarm had been sounded earlier, but he didn’t know what the circumstances of the base were. Right now, Lin Feng wanted to get back to Qian Zongguan’s house, where the sixth class cultivation Ma brothers were, as it would be safer near them. 

But before he could move, Lin Feng disregarded that plan as the alarms started to sound once again. 

Two alarms in a row indicated that the situation was dire. Although Lin Feng wasn’t far from Qian Zongguan’s house, he knew he shouldn’t try to leave his shelter without understanding the situation. 

Lin Feng looked out the window and saw a group of uniformed troops moving down the road, and knew that it was no coincidence that the base guard was being mobilized. Besides the guards, Lin Feng also saw normal looking people with weapons on their shoulders that were most likely cultivators from the base. 

Soon, more had joined the group as they moved down the path, but suddenly the crowd stopped and looked up into the sky. 

Was it possible for flying savage beasts to appear?

Seeing the crowd look up into the sky, Lin Feng had a bad premonition. 

Since entering the apocalypse, Lin Feng hadn’t seen flying zombies or savage beasts. Lin Feng had heard that there were encounters with strong birds, but because of their size, they weren’t much of a threat. Even when the birds had become savage beasts, they weren’t strong enough to match zombies of the same level. 

But something was able to make Tianlong base sound the alarms twice in a row and mobilize many of its troops and cultivators. It was possible for the threat to be an aerial type savage beast, and a strong one at that to be able to make the base consider it such a threat. 

It was the unknown dangers that were the most difficult to deal with, and seeing the actions of the troops, Lin Feng didn’t think that this was a drill. 

Suddenly, Lin Feng could see a thick blue beam of light shoot off from the distance. He approximated the source of the beam to be Zhengda road. The bright blue beam shot across the sky and flew to the north of the base. 

Laser weapons!

The science and technology of this world surpassed the level of Lin Feng’s old world, enough so that they even had laser weapons to defend the bases with. The most basic weapons were pulse weapons, a step higher being laser weapons. Since the energy consumption was small and the damage output was high, laser weapons became popular in this world. 

Along with the first bright blue laser beam, laser beams shot across the sky, one after another, from the direction of Zhengda road. 

It seems that it really is an aerial savage beast attack, thought Lin Feng when he saw this scene. 

Tianlong base was the second largest base in Tianqi city, and developed the usage of the apocalypse watch message system. If there was another base that was trying to invade the territory, news of this attack would’ve already spread to everyone in the base. But the sudden alarms and raggedness of the guards indicated that this wasn’t a planned attack, but a blitz. 

The only ones that were able to perform a blitz were the enemies of humanity, and Lin Feng decided that it was savages beasts that were attacking this time. 

The lasers were being shot towards the north, so Lin Feng rushed to a window on another side of the building to get a better view. 

As time passed, the number of guards on the road grew larger and larger, nearly occupying the entire street. Tianlong base had a population of over a million people. From that population the base had over ten thousand guards. Since the second Northern road was located close to Zhengda road, there were many guards posted there. 

It was clear that the savage beasts had yet to reach Tianlong base. Lin Feng watched as the lasers streaked off into the distance until it was too far to see. 

Lin Feng watched as the guards on the ground suddenly lifted their guns and raised them towards the north. 

They’ve Arrived!

Lin Feng knew from the guard’s actions that the savage beasts should have arrived. Pulling out binoculars from the apocalypse watch, Lin Feng looked in the direction that the guards were pointing their weapons. 

Lin Feng watched as the sky grew darker and a huge shadow reached over the horizon with every second.
