Chapter 42 – My Daughter is a Mistress (part 2)

Li Su sat up and looked at her surroundings. Although the original owner valued sons over daughters, she was a diligent person. She kept the albeit small house clean and neat. After the death of the original owner’s husband, the original owner relied on her late husband’s pension to guard a tailor shop and raise 2 children.

Suddenly, there was a sound of a door opening outside. Li Su looked up to see Wen Cai Er enter with a plastic bag in her hand. “Mum, why are you getting up? Don’t you still have a fever? Lie down and rest. I’ll make dinner!”

Li Su looked at Wen Cai Er carefully. She was 16 years old and had just entered her first year of high school. She was at the most youthful and energetic age. She was beautiful even when wearing her school uniform and her hair styled into simple pigtails. She was the most dazzling one in a crowd.

“By the way, mum, are you hungry? I will peel an apple for you first!” Wen Cai Er said as she took an apple from the plastic bag. She went to the kitchen to peel it.

“Where did the fruit come from? Did you buy it?” Li Su got out of bed and opened the plastic bag to see she had guessed wrong. There were two oranges, a bag of milk, and two bananas inside. One would not purchase fruit in such a haphazard manner.

“I didn’t buy them. Someone gave them to me.” Wen Cai Er came out with a peeled apple, like she was accustomed to this. “Mum, you forgot. It isn’t what you said, to not do things for nothing. Every day, someone puts things at my table, like love letters and the like. I throw them away and bring back the food.”

Li Su sighed. Was this what the original owner taught her kids? No wonder Wen Yuan Mo was ignorant and useless, and Wen Cai Er was vain.

“Cai Er, don’t take these things in the future.” Li Su frowned. “Our family doesn’t lack money. If you want to eat in the future, buy it yourself.”

Wen Cai Er was a little surprised. “Mum.” Didn’t her mum teach her that a fool was to be taken advantage of?

“Mum just dreamed of your dad. He blamed me for being too harsh on you.” Li Su originally wanted to talk to them, but as she was about to speak, she remembered that the original owner was very generous to her son and gave him what he wanted.

“Your dad has never done anything good in his life. The only good thing he did was buy insurance. So, when he died in a car accident, he left some insurance money, enough for you to study. It was mum who was wrong before, always thinking about your younger brother. He is a man so if he wants to get married and buy a house in the future, he should save a bit,” Li Su said with a sigh.

Wen Cai Er was a little flattered. She had been told since she was young that her younger brother was the most important. The money in her family was all for her younger brother. She had to study hard. If she managed to get a better future, she couldn’t forget to help her younger brother.

“Okay, go do your homework and I’ll cook. By the way, where’s your younger brother? Why isn’t he back?” Li Su frowned.

Wen Cai Er stopped talking. Li Su looked at her. “Do you know?”

“Yuan Mo went to the internet café with his friends.” Wen Cai Er hesitated, but she didn’t dare to lie to her mother.

“Internet? Does he go often?” Li Su frowned.

Wen Cai Er lowered her head and didn’t dare to speak.

Li Su recalled things carefully. In the past two months, Wen Yuan Mo often came back from school late. When she asked where he had been, he said that he went to play football with his classmates. As the original owner loved her son very much and trusted him, she never doubted what he said. But, Li Su was different. Li Su remembered that Wen Yuan Mo used to be a good, hard-working, and diligent boy.

“Which internet café?”

Wen Cai Er shook her head. “I don’t know. It’s probably on the street behind the school.” Wen Cai Er only knew that her younger brother skipped classes often and surfed the net. She had once told her mother, but in her mother’s heart, her younger brother could do no evil. Not only did her mother not believe her, but her mother scolded her for talking badly about her younger brother. After a while, Wen Cai Er stopped talking.

Li Su asked for the address. She then went to the kitchen to get a rolling pin before heading out angrily.

Wen Cai Er was a little upset. Why did she want to speak to him so quickly? Mum always had high hopes for the two of them. Since she was angry now, she would definitely teach her younger brother a lesson. However, when her mother’s anger was gone, her mother would just feel sorry for her younger brother again. She would still end up being the unlucky one.

Wen Cai Er couldn’t concentrate on her homework, so she hurriedly followed her mother.

Li Su angrily ran to the street Wen Cai Er was talking about. There were 3-4 internet cafes on that street. Li Su didn’t know which one Wen Yuan Mo was in, so she simply carried the rolling pin and went looking inside each one.

When Wen Cai Er rushed over, Li Su had already caught Wen Yuan Mo and was carrying him out of the café like a chicken. Wen Yuan Mo had been spoiled by Li Su. When he was caught, he held up his head and refused to admit he was wrong!

Li Su was angry. She raised her rolling pin and hit Wen Yuan Mo.

Wen Yuan Mo was caught off guard. Before he could shout, he was beaten again and again without relief. Mum always loved him. When dad was alive, his dad would hit him when he was not obedient. At that time, mum desperately protected him. Since dad died, he had never been scolded let alone beaten. What was wrong with his mum?

“Ow, it hurts! It hurts so much! Mum, don’t hit me!” Wen Yuan Mo couldn’t help but yell.

“Do you know what you did wrong?” Li Su cursed as she beat him.

Wen Yuan Mo refused to admit his mistake. He tried to dodge and he shouted in pain. He accidentally saw Wen Cai Er in the crowd and angrily said, “Wen Cai Er, did you betray me? Was it you?!”

Wen Cai Er looked terrified. Li Su hit him harder when she heard his words. “You have become braver now. You dare to call your older sister’s name! You have done something wrong and now you want to yell at your older sister!”

Wen Cai Er hurriedly walked over and guarded Wen Yuan Mo. “Mum, don’t hit him. Yuan Mo knows it was wrong.” She then turned her head. “Hurry up and admit your mistakes to your mother! Mum is in good shape. You shouldn’t be mad at her.”

It was only then did Li Su stop. Wen Yuan Mo got up from the ground. He admitted his mistake. “Mum, I was wrong. Don’t hit me.”

“This time, for the sake of your older sister, I won’t beat you. Get home quickly and do your homework!” Li Su said angrily with her hands on her hips.

“Mum. When did you become so rude and unreasonable? So embarrassing.” When Yuan Mo realised there were many people watching, including his classmates, which was really embarrassing.

“I am just educating my son. What is so embarrassing about that? What about you? You didn’t go home after school to finish your homework and instead ran to an internet café to play online games. I am ashamed of you!” said Li Su angrily.

Wen Yuan Mo lowered his head with a guilty conscience. Several boys who were also browsing the net with him escaped with a guilty conscience.

Wen Cai Er turned around curiously. “What do you guys play?”

“Go away. What’s the matter with you?!” Wen Yuan Mo said impatiently.

“How dare you talk to your older sister like that? Such courage!” Li Su slapped his head.

Wen Yuan Mo held his head and looked at Li Su, aggrieved. “Mum! Was something wrong with his mother? He used to talk to his older sister like this and his mother wasn’t angry before. His mother even smiled at him before! What was wrong with her now?

“Older sis, did mum get a fever and burn her brain?” Wen Yuan Mo was 13 this year. He had just entered the first year of junior high school. Although he was a bit stubborn, he was still childish.

“Don’t talk nonsense or else mum will get angry again,” Wen Cai Er said in a low voice. She then said cautiously, “Mum, it is getting late. Let’s head back! Younger brother already knows his mistake.”

“We’ll go back and talk later.” Li Su snorted.

After the three of them returned home, Li Su sat on the sofa and put the rolling pin on the table. “Wen Yuan Mo, kneel!”

Wen Yuan Mo had just dropped his schoolbag and was about to make Wen Cai Er do his homework for him. After he heard Li Su’s words, he became impatient. “What’s wrong? Wasn’t I already hit?”

“Your dad died early. I thought that, since you are a boy, I’d need to depend on you in the future. When your older sister gets married, you could also support her. She loves you very much. But I didn’t expect that you would turn out like this! If you continue to behave like this, then how can I face your dad?! Go, kneel and do your homework in front of your dad’s picture.” Li Su glanced at Wen Cai Er. “You are not allowed to do his homework for him in the future. Let him do it himself. He is not allowed to eat until he finishes it!”

After Wen Yuan Mo entered junior high school, he had a lot of homework. He asked Wen Cai Er to do it for him if he couldn’t finish it and Li Su had agreed. She thought there was a lot of homework and she was afraid that her son would not sleep well and would not grow tall.

Wen Yuan Mo’s eyes widened. Li Su picked up the rolling pin and was about to hit him. Wen Yuan Mo quickly knelt down.

Wen Cai Er brought him a stool and his schoolbag. She gave Li Su a timid look and turned around to go back to her room to do her homework.

Li Su went to the kitchen to cook and came out from time to time to check on Wen Yuan Mo. If he wasn’t doing his homework, then he would get the rod.

It took Wen Yuan Mo over an hour to finish his homework. During this time, Li Su cooked a meal and called for Wen Cai Er to come eat it. The two of them ate silently. Wen Cai Er wanted to plead for Wen Yuan Mo, but when she saw Li Su’s expression, she silently lowered her head.

Wen Yuan Mo was so aggrieved. He didn’t look at them out of anger and merely immersed himself in his homework. He finally finished.

Li Su took his workbook and looked through it. It was a coincidence that it was physics. If it was Chinese, English, history, or the like, then she could say something. It was physics. Forget it! She was a liberal arts student, so her physics knowledge was returned to the teacher after the high school exam.

Li Su walked to Wen Cai Er’s room and knocked on the door. “Cai Er, Cai Er.”

Wen Cai Er was working on her homework when she heard her mum knock on the door. She hurried over and opened it. “Mum, what’s the matter?”

“Have you finished your homework? If you have, check your younger brother’s homework,” said Li Su softly.

“I only have math homework left. I’ll be done in about twenty minutes,” said Wen Cai Er.

Li Su walked over and looked at Wen Cai Er’s notebook. The handwriting was clean and more beautiful than Wen Yuan Mo’s illegible scrawl. She still couldn’t understand the content. To her, high school math was the same as a heavenly book.

“Okay, then continue. I am not well-educated. I don’t know much about your younger brother’s homework. You still have to bother with it. I know that it’s bothersome for you to help him when he doesn’t understand. You will need to teach him. It is better to teach people to fish than to catch fish for them.” Li Su smiled.

Wen Cai Er smiled. “Mum also said that her education isn’t that good. How is that so when you can say something like this?”

“Hmph! Flattery!” Wen Yuan Mo said disdainfully as he leaned against the doorway. “I’m not being serious. If I was, then I’d definitely be better than her!”

“You have the ability to learn carefully! Don’t just brag!” Li Su glanced at him. She knew that children at this age were rebellious. If she could stimulate Wen Yuan Mo to study hard, it would save her a lot of problems.
