Chapter 43 – My Daughter is a Mistress (part 3)

Wen Yuan Mo was not fooled. He snorted. “I know that you are just prodding. I won’t be fooled!”

Li Su glanced at him. This dumb boy was quite clever.

“Fine, don’t hide. Go eat and don’t disturb your older sister. You don’t want to be motivated while your older sister does.” Li Su walked over and pushed Wen Yuan Mo out. She then gently closed the door.

Wen Cai Er smiled slightly and turned to finish her homework.

Li Su brought food out from the kitchen. “Hurry up and wash your hands before eating. When you finish, let your older sister check your homework. Ask her if you don’t understand anything in class. Your older sister’s grades are really good.”

“Do you think I am a fool? I understand everything the teacher says,” said Wen Yuan Mo impatiently. This wasn’t a lie. The current content was too easy, so he was too impatient to listen.

“You understand it all? Really?” Li Su asked.

“Yuan Mo is right. In fact, Yuan Mo is very smart.” Wen Cai Er walked out of the room with a soft smile. “If you are more careful, you can do even better.”

Wen Yuan Mo subconsciously wanted to mock Wen Cai Er and let her take care of her own affairs, but he remembered that he was hit on the head earlier. He held back. His mother used to be so different. What happened today? Did a fever burn her brain away, or did Wen Cai Er say something in front of mum?

Wen Yuan Mo looked at Wen Cai Er hesitantly.

Li Su saw this and patted him on the shoulder again. “What is with that look?! She is your older sister, understand?” Li Su originally wanted to hit his head, but she was afraid that she was too strong. People could be confused at first, but if they continued to be stupid, then it would be even more troublesome.

Wen Yuan Mo grinned and covered his shoulders. “It hurts!”

Wen Cai Er pursed her lips and smiled. She sat next to Wen Yuan Mo and checked his homework.

Wen Yuan Mo finished his meal and pushed the bowl and chopsticks to the centre of the table. He then stood up and was about to leave when Li Su stopped him. “Wash the dishes for me.”

“What? You want me to wash the dishes?” Wen Yuan Mo’s eyes widened.

“You are the last one to eat. If you don’t wash up, who will?” Li Su stared at him and continued, “From now on, this will be our house rule. The last one to finish eating has to wash the dishes!”

“Why? I don’t clean!” Wen Yuan Mo had grown up never doing housework. He didn’t want to do this!

“Why? I’m your mum! If you don’t hurry up and wash, then should I beat you?” Li Su raised her rolling pin again.

Wen Yuan Mo recalled the feeling of the rolling pin and took a step back. “I’ll wash! But if I break the bowl, then don’t come for me.”

“Hmph, if you break the bowl, I’ll deduct it from your pocket money next week. Five yuan for a bowl, ten yuan for a plate! Until the deduction stops, you’ll have to keep washing,” Li Su said with a snort.

“You!” Wen Yuan Mo’s face was red and his eyes were wide.

Wen Cai Er stood and said, “Yeah, mum. I can wash. Yuan Mo is a boy. How can he do these things?”

“Sit down!” Li Su knocked the chair with the rolling pin. Wen Cai Er hurriedly sat down.

“So what if he is a boy? As the saying goes, one can’t be successful without being independent. If he can’t even do something as simple as washing dishes well, then what can we expect from him in the future?!1 I used to spoil him, but in the future, he will need to change! Hurry up!” Li Su looked at Wen Yuan Mo.

Wen Yuan Mo was so angry that he wanted to throw all of the dishes, then run out of the house. But, since his mother had the rolling pin in her hand, he didn’t dare to.

After thinking about it for a while, he finally went to the kitchen to do the dishes, aggrieved.

Li Su was now satisfied. “Continue to check your younger brother’s homework. I will go to the kitchen to take a look.”

Wen Cai Er smiled. Even if her mother had said so, she still felt bad for her younger brother.

Li Su went to the kitchen. Wen Yuan Mo was staring at the pile of dirty dishes in the sink. He couldn’t start!

“Pour some detergent first, then put them in the water.” Li Su couldn’t stand it anymore.

Wen Yuan Mo glanced back at her, snorted angrily, and refused to follow suit.

“You damn kid, I’m talking to you. Where are your ears?!” Li Su was angry and went forward to twist Wen Yuan Mo’s ears. “I used to be too good to you, so you became like this. You will improve after a few beatings.”

“Aiyah! I heard it, I heard it! Let go! Let go!” Wen Yuan Mo cried as he covered his ears.

Li Su let go. “Hurry up!”

Wen Yuan Mo followed Li Su’s words and began to wash the dishes.

“Don’t just wash the inside, wash the outside and the bottom of the bowl,” Li Su instructed from the side. She interjected a few times.

After finishing washing the bowls, Wen Yuan Mo took out a dry towel with Li Su’s guidance and wiped the bowls clean. He then put them into the cupboard.

Li Su smiled and reached out to touch Wen Yuan Mo’s face. “Good son. Don’t blame mum for being cruel. Mum is looking forward to how well you’ll turn out. You are the only male in our family, the hope of your mum and older sister. Mum wants you to take care of me and your older sister will marry someone in the future. If your in-law’s family dares to make her unhappy, you will need to stand up for your older sister. If you stray onto the wrong path, who should your mum and older sister count on?”

Wen Yuan Mo was a little uncomfortable. He was just a teenager and unaccustomed to Li Su’s tender offensive. He just felt awkward and stammered.

“Mum, you, you, don’t you… Don’t do this. I… I know… I won’t, no, won’t skip. No, no… Can it be done if I don’t go to internet cafes?”

Li Su held back a smile and continued to say softly, “If you say that, then mum will be relieved. From now on, don’t blame mum for being too strict with you. Mum is doing this for your sake.”

“I… I… I know! I’ll go see older sis.” Wen Yuan Mo ran out of the kitchen as if he was escaping.

Li Su was happy and couldn’t help but laugh.

Wen Cai Er also checked Wen Yuan Mo’s homework. She marked down the things he got wrong and tried to explain it to him one by one. Wen Yuan Mo also had some rare patience and listened carefully.

Li Su took out a pen and paper and began to design clothes. The original owner was a tailor, so she still had some skills in making clothes. The original owner only lacked fashionable styles and designs. Now that she was here, she knew the popular styles in the next few years.

Li Su looked at Wen Cai Er and began to design skirts for her. Wen Cai Er was at that young and beautiful age where she should dress prettily.

With a few strokes, Li Su came up with a fashionable dress. She picked a red and blue plaid material, which looked nice.

After Wen Cai Er and Wen Yuan Mo finished their homework, Li Su checked the time. It was past 10 pm. “Hurry and go to sleep.”

Wen Yuan Mo went over suddenly. “Mum, give me some money. I’m out.”

Wen Cai Er turned to go back to her room since this situation had nothing to do with her when Li Su stopped her. “Cai Er, wait a minute.”

Li Su took out two fifty pieces from her pocket. Wen Yuan Mo’s eyes lit up, but Li Su only gave him one. She took the remaining money back. “This is your pocket money for the week. Save it and don’t spend too much.”

Wen Yuan Mo took the money. “Why is there so little?”

“You get ten yuan a day. Isn’t that enough? If you think it is too little, then don’t ask for it!” Li Su said angrily.

Wen Yuan Mo hurriedly collected the money since it was better than nothing.

Wen Cai Er stood silently. Li Su beckoned her over and first took out a tape measure to get her measurements. She thought for a moment, then changed the 50 yuan to 100 yuan and handed it to Wen Cai Er. “Take it.”

Wen Cai Er didn’t dare to take it. “Mum, I don’t want it. I have nothing to spend it on. Keep it for younger brother!” She really didn’t have to spend money. There were a lot of boys chasing her and they often gave her something to eat. Even the notebooks and pens she used were gifts. She also had nice hair accessories which were also gifts.

“Then you can hold on to it. There should be some pocket money for you. If you want to eat or play, you can. Don’t always take advantage of others or people will talk.”

Wen Cai Er lowered her head. “These people gave it to me willingly. Mum, don’t you agree?”

“Since you don’t talk about them being friends, don’t just take their things. That isn’t good. I was confused when I taught you that, but now I know that I was wrong. I will correct it, okay?” Li Su didn’t expect to be able to change Wen Cai Er’s thoughts overnight, but she could take her time.

“I know, mum. I won’t accept them in the future.” Wen Cai Er is a good, obedient child. Although she didn’t think it was bad, her mother said it wasn’t good, so she wouldn’t accept them.

“That’s right, you are a girl. You need to know how to respect and love yourself. Mum was confused before, but now that I understand it, this can’t continue. Mum will give you pocket money every week from now on. Whatever you are missing, buy it for yourself! If the money is gone, ask mum for more. Okay?” Li Su said as she patted Wen Cai Er’s hand.

“Mum, I can’t use so much. You can give Yuan Mo more money! He is a boy and spends more.” Wen Cai Er was very moved. Her mum was so kind to her.

“Don’t worry about your younger brother. If he has too much money, then he will make trouble and surf the internet. You aren’t the same as your younger brother. Mum can trust you and give you more money. You must also remember that you aren’t allowed to secretly give your younger brother money, do you understand? It isn’t good to support his bad habits, remember?” Li Su said seriously.

Wen Cai Er nodded. “I know, mum, but you gave me too much. At home…”

Li Su smiled and touched Wen Cai Er’s small face. It was soft and springy. “Don’t worry. I haven’t touched most of the insurance money left by your dad. It’s enough for you and your younger brother to go to college. Although the tailor shop doesn’t earn much every month, it is enough to feed you two. As long as you and your younger brother study hard, you will have a good future. Mum will be happy no matter how hard you work.”

Wen Cai Er was really moved in her heart. “Mum, don’t worry. I will study hard and be filial to you in the future!”

“Good!” Li Su said with a smile.

Wen Yuan Mo hid behind the door, his face full of displeasure.
