[ Would you like to use ‘Bewitch’? ]

[ Yes / No ]

[ Yes ]

The moment ‘enchant’ was activated, there suddenly came the illusion of me being covered in a faint pink glow.

This was supposed to be bewitching?

I looked over at Dietrich.

His eyes were blank as he was looking at me. Did it succeed?

But, really. What kind of ability was this?

As I was carefully gauging Dietrich’s condition, it was then.

[ Failed to bewitch! ]

[ Leveling up can also raise this ability’s success rate! ]

[ Time left until the next attempt can be done: 00:59:59 ]

What. It failed?

In the end, it was a bit of a shame that the bewitching attempt failed, so I couldn’t see how it worked.

Even so, as Dietrich was looking back at me, his expression was slightly crumpled.

“Dietrich?”

“What have you done to me?”

Dietrich’s scathing tone startled me for a moment.

Could he feel the bewitching charm I tried to throw at him just now?

“I didn’t do anything though?”

I felt a bit guilty as I replied like so, but it’s true that I didn’t do anything anyway. The bewitching attempt had failed.

But, then again, did it actually affect Dietrich in the end?

“Are you being truthful?”

“…Why?”

“…I feel a little unpleasant.”

Once again, my conscience got pricked when I saw Dietrich reacting with a foul expression.

Okay. It would be better not to use this ability from now on.

“So, are you done here? I would like for you to leave.”

Right. I should get out of here.

I got up from my seat.

“Ah, almost forgot, Dietrich.”

I needed to tell him something important before leaving.

As the woman left through the door, Dietrich was thrown into confusion yet again.

She was the one who had laid the trap for him, but then she later came to him and treated his wounds.

Dietrich looked at the salve jar that the woman had left behind.

It made absolutely no sense.

Nevertheless, there was something else that was bothering him.

As he fell into the trap, the woman ran straight towards him.

And, the woman said,

—It was a mistake on my part. I got confused about the rooms.

Hearing her say that made him bristle with anger at first, but as time went by, Dietrich kept pondering those words.

Was it truly a mistake, as she said?

Was that why the woman came running to his aid?

But Dietrich soon shook his head.

Whether or not it’s a mistake, why should it matter.

The fact that she locked him up here would not change. It was useless to think about this.

Dietrich latched his sword to his waist and left the room. As he was headed to another room, at that moment,

—Ah, almost forgot, Dietrich.

Suddenly, he recalled what the woman said before she had left the room earlier, but Dietrich banished the thought of her from his mind.

I shouldn’t waver.

In the new room he entered, there was another monster.

He cut down that monster mercilessly.

He entered another room again.

He cut down that monster mercilessly.

He entered another room again.

He cut down that monster mercilessly.

He entered another room again.

Again.

Again.

…Again, this cycle continued in vain.

“Haa…”

Each and every day he spent in this place, his despair deepened more and more. He could find no solution at all.

Even as time had gone by, none of his efforts bore fruit.

Dietrich covered his face with both hands.

Faced with the reality of his situation, Dietrich slowly sank down as though sinking into an endless bog.

It’s so hard to breathe.

—Go to the west wing today.

—And why should I do that.

—There are many pretty things over there. Go and take a look.

Once again, the woman’s voice rang in his head.

He was at a loss.

His only priority was finding a way to leave this place as soon as possible, so what exactly was there for him to see in that place?

Dietrich rose to his feet.

Contradicting himself however, his steps were headed towards the place that he had unconsciously embedded into his mind.

To the west wing.

Rub, rub.

Squeak, squeak, squeak.

It’s something that I didn’t normally do before this, but I started cleaning.

The reason behind this was simple.

Because of Dietrich.

Ever since deciding to help Dietrich get out of here, there were many things I had to pay attention to.

A squalid environment could sometimes cause Dietrich to fall ill in the game, so I’d have to make sure that his surroundings were clean for now.

If Dietrich were to get sick, he’d be in trouble.

And besides, if the mansion would get cleaner, the rate of Dietrich’s corruption could slow down.

[ You have the ability to polish windows to the point of luster. ]

It was an authority ability that I didn’t think I’d have any use for, but as I used it, the dusty windows quickly got squeaky clean.

After this session of cleaning, I was on the move again, not taking a break in between.

“Map.”

As the map appeared before me, I looked through the rooms that were marked as having items.

There were a few hidden items and high-grade items strewn around, and most of them were marked on the map.

This, of course, excluded the fragments that were needed to get to the Room of Truth.

I headed to the room marked with ‘that item’.
