However, ‘that’ tended to move around, so I had to change my route several times along the way.

As I arrived, the room was completely dark without a single light to be seen. I didn’t panic and just calmly list the candle that I brought with me.

Once the outline of my surrounding area was revealed, I tried looking around the room in earnest, but something soft touched my ankle.

Soft. Moist. It started licking my ankle.

[ Steel Mentality is being implemented. ]

That nearly made me yelp.

“Kyung, kyung!”

I brought the candle lower to illuminate what’s by my feet.

“Found you.”

It was the young monster that I came here to look for.

It’s the baby I’ve thus nicknamed ‘furball’ because of how thick its fur was.

Furball then jumped up, as if it wanted to meet me on eye level.

I was inwardly worried, but I didn’t think that this little creature would harm me. I reached forward and petted it.

“How are you, little guy?”

“Kyuuuung!”

As though responding to my words, Furball reached out its little stubby hands and waved.

Just the sight of it was healing already.

I looked at it with a pleased smile and carried it up, nestling it on one arm.

This cute little furball was something that could slow down Dietrich’s descent into darkness.

I found out about this while I was playing the game with Dietrich as the player. He had wandered into a room and found Furball.

The small, vulnerable creature could tug at the heartstrings of anyone who’d see it.

He had already been in the midst of going crazy then, but when Dietrich picked it up, Furball allowed him to rest for a little while.

And thus, Dietrich got attached to this cute little thing…

However, when he met a strong monster and Furball died, Dietrich went doubly crazy.

Anyway, I figured that I should make sure that Furball doesn’t die.

“Kyuuuung!”

Furball reached high with its little hands in the air, wordlessly saying that it wanted to go into my hair.

“You can’t.”

“Kyuuung…”

“Don’t pretend to be pitiful.”

“Kyung…”

Sullenly, Furball’s hands and feet drooped.

I then left the ball with Furball, patting its but to comfort it a little. Then, Furball nuzzled into me.

He seemed to like it, so I patted its butt more.

Now, I need to go to Dietrich.

[ ‘Dietrich’ has entered the ‘Doll Room’. ]

[ The hidden story of the first floor shall now be unlocked. ]

This…

Multiple system windows popped up in front of me.

Dietrich seemed to have entered the final stage of the first floor.

Each floor of the game had its own boss.

And the bosses themselves had more than half of the crushed shards that could be collected on their respective floors.

Therefore, in order to collect all of the crushed shards, not only did the player have to wander around several rooms in search of them, but the player would also need to trigger the hidden conditions to make the boss appear.

Right then, my hands started trembling. What’s with this vibration?

“Ornnn…”

“……”

“Kyung, kyung!”

Sure enough, little Furball started growling and making vague noises. What’s wrong with it now? Where did the cuteness go?

“Can you also see it?”

“Kyung, kyung, kyung, kyuuuu….”

…What’s it even saying?

‘That reminds me, the start of that stage is usually…’

The continuation of the story.

When Furball kept wriggling in my arms, I set it down on the floor for a moment.

Then, Furball looked up at me as if it was confused.

It reached out to my ankle again as though it was asking to be carried once more.

“Sorry. Stay there just a little while.”

Shhk, shhk.

It shook its head like it was saying no.

“Can you understand me.”

Shhk, shhk.

If you actually understand me though, shouldn’t you have nodded just now?

“You understand, right?”

“Kyung.”

Sulking because I didn’t carry it up again, Furball turned away from me.

At that moment,

[ ‘Dietrich’ has acquired a portion of S’s diary. ]

A portion of S’s diary, it said…

Dietrich managed to find it safely.

Since I had played the game many times myself, I roughly knew the locations of the portions of the most important item of this game: S’s diary.

The hint I gave Dietrich earlier was about this, and I was worried that he might not take it because he looked at me with such a scathing glare earlier. Still, he seemed to have gone west anyway.

[ The contents of the diary shall be shared with Charlotte. ]

────────────

Befitting the affluent noble lady, this mansion is formed and fitted with only the most expensive and luxurious things.

However, amongst that noble lady’s belongings, one such item is the ugliest thing there could ever be.

It is…

[ Charlotte shall be relocated to the ‘Doll Room’. ]

But before I could even finish reading the diary page, I was forcibly transported elsewhere.

My body hardened as though I was being manipulated. It was the same experience as when Dietrich had first entered the mansion.

As my eyes heated up and my tongue hardened, cold sweat trickled down my back.

Now, without any semblance of control over my own body, I could hear footsteps outside, upon the wooden boards of the corridor behind me.

My body moved towards that sound.

“What are you doing, standing there blankly?” Dietrich asked.

With red eyes, ‘Charlotte’ smiled brightly at Dietrich.
