About a week after the defeat of the bandit camp.

A large carriage drawn by luxurious steeds could be seen travelling down an elegant pathway.

Klent suddenly shook his head out of the carriage to observe his surroundings.

"Judging by the quality of the surrounding roads, it seems like it won't be much longer until we reach the capital gates."

Hearing this Dante simply nodded.

The journey back to the capital  had been much more comfortable than the journey to defeat the bandits.

This time they travelled in a large luxurious carriage with all sorts of equipment and supplies that would last the complete journey.

To make things better they were on a triumphant return after completing a Martial Adept level mission with only martial journeyman levels cultivation.

Such a feat was enough to greatly boost his reputation with the hidden dragon academy. The fact that he had also slain an evil corpse master in the process could only further boost his plans.

If things continued At this rate it wouldn't be long before he could sway the forces of the Hidden Dragon Academy that had been showing intentions of sidelong with Prince Lloyd Dragon son of Governance over towards him and the side of Princess Levina and the Dragon Son of war .

Although this was perfectly in line with the plan that Princess Levina wanted, whenever Dante thought back to his unpleasant encounter with that woman an twisted expression appeared on his face.

Rebecca, who was sitting opposite Dante in the carriage also seemed to notice his change in expression and couldn't help but ask,

"Dante, are you alright?"

"I'm alright" sighed Dante, trying to change the topic.

"It's just that whenever I think about the scolding we will receive  from Vincent and Grandpa, I can feel the years of my lifespan slowly shaving off."

Hearing this Rebecca gave off a light chuckle before she suddenly froze.

Suddenly, a horrified expression appeared on her face as a nervous sweat began to form on her brow.

Normally whenever Dante engaged in anything reckless she would just be on the side watching and sometimes even enjoying the vicious scoldings he got. But what about this time?

She wasn't on the sideline, instead she was deeply involved in it!

"Damn it!" Cursed Rebecca in panic

"Dante." Said Rebecca nervously

"We saved the day right, surely what we did wasn't bad, right?"

"Well…" said Dante

"If you look at what we did from an objective point of view, what we did was most definitely right." Said Dante

As soon as Rebecca heard this a brilliant smile appeared on her face.

But before she could smile for too long her actions were interrupted by Dante's wounds yet again

"But! It would be a lie to say that some grave mistakes weren't committed." Said Dante

"Like what mistakes." Asked Rebecca.

"Well for starters, we found out the situation had changed for the worse but instead of immediately evacuating and calling for backup we stayed around and insisted on defeating them"

"But Dante" said Rebecca

"We tried requesting assistance through the use of carrier pigeons but all attempts at communication were blocked off" explained Rebecca.

But as Dante heard this he just shook his head.

That still doesn't excuse the fact that we took a reckless action and decided to stay and fight without a clear source of higher level back up or even an idea of the level of enemy we were  facing."

"To make matters worse this was just a minor mistake. The real crime  came from the recruitment of soldiers."

"Using the name of Prince consort we forcibly gathered and conscripted soldiers from nearby lords without any permission nor imperial decree from the king himself. Simply put this is a crime no less than committing treason itself. Even now I expect many discontent letters to be sent to the royal palace accusing me of treason"

As soon as Rebecca heard this her eyes widened to an almost comical degree.

With just one look at her I would be easy to tell that her soul had just left her body.

"T…t…treason…" muttered Rebecca in dazed stupor

"Mother, father forgive this lowly child. Today I am the greatest traitor in the history of the kinsman clan!"

Dante just watched Rebecca's little rant as light chuckle escaped his lips.

"Dante!" Said Rebecca

"Is now really the time to be laughing? You're talking about treason for gods sake! All main clan members will be executed while the collateral line will be punished for at least the next 9 generations!"

Hearing this Dante only smiled once again.

"Rebecca, you need to calm down. Don't forget, my current status is incomparable to the time when I was in the kinsman clan. I am both the Dragon son of war and the Prince Consort. With both these titles even if was committing a true act of  treason there would still be some wiggle room much less now when my actions are perfectly justifiable" said Dante

"While it may cause a bit of trouble to Granduncle Vincent and minister Hendrix, we should be able to blow this over without too much trouble."

After Listening to Dante speak, Rebecca was left completely speechless.

"Dante how are you so…. So calm with all this? Do you even comprehend what you are saying."

"It's because I can completely comprehend what I am saying that I am so calm." Replied Dante

"This whole ordeal we had been walking on a thin, invisible tightrope. There were so many points in time we here even just one little failure could have cost one of us their lives."

"Even right now you're living with a ridiculous amount of death energy trapped within your bones that even I can do nothing about."

I'm not afraid of the scolding or punishments to come because I have simply already scolded myself mentally.

After realising how lucky I am to survive, how could I be so stupid as to try something like this again?"
