Master of Myths

Chapter 60: Language Barrier

"Siss Saznar, what do we do"

"I think we should send one of the Sand Wings after the leader"

"Yess, yess, I agree, let's send the Sand Wings right now Saznar"

The snakes in the room hissed in suggestion but Saznar who'd been quiet suddenly erupted with flames, silencing them angrily

"Sssilence! Let me think thisss through"

Everyone quieted down noticing that his own verbal tik was showing up, clearly he was losing control over his temper

Finally having a moment of peace Saznar tried to regroup his thoughts, going over what that two-legged menace said in search of any falsehood or clue, sadly even after many minutes passed he could only conclude that they lacked information sorely, making any judgment he could think of merely a guess

"Get Colesis to inspect that female's wound"

"What?! were not sending the Sand Wings??"

"Saxnar please think it through, if we are late the leader and everyone with him might meet their end"

"Indeed, I am of the mind that we send for them even if it turns out to be a lie, it's better to be cautious than frugal"

His suggestion was met with opposition which he calmly listens to, allowing everyone to voice their opinions though they were more or less the same, only after everyone noticed their words were not having an effect on him did they start to go back to silence

"...Done? Now let me explain what we will be doing"

He took a deep breath and explained his thoughts on the matter

"First we will have Colesis make contact with the poison, instead of having him inject the fire poison in to counter what she has we will have suck a little of that poison instead"

Most of the snakes understood what he wanted to do next already making them impatient to call out Colesis

"From what he can infer of it we can establish whether they had met a powerful foe or they are merely over exaggerating a slightly strong Gardelos, if it is the former than those two must be extremely strong and we shall oblige to our deal, if it's the latter then we must obviously deal with them one way or another"

"So we will be guessing through the poison? Is it really worth the risk?"

Oke of the unconvinced snakes questioned

"The risk of leaving the leader alone or the risk of alerting the vampires? If you're talking about the leader than worry not, I will send a Sand Wing either way, only it will be one of the slower ones instead of spending a fortune on the fastest one available"

"And what of the vampires?"

"Naturally we will suck the poison in the name of processing it to make a tonic, it's not like they know the process of our detoxification, the cards are in our hands this time around"

"Sssiss, Saznar you've quit the cunning mind"

"Indeed you've become much wiser"

The snakes praised, rejoicing in their minds

"Let's not waste any more time and call Colesis, brief him his role before sending him to the vampires"

"Speaking of, what was that caged hound they had?"

"Must be one of the new land's occupants, it's not like it looked particularly unique anything"

"True, those vampires are probably experimenting on the new race and tasting their blood, it's not like it's the first time they do that"

While writing off Anput as one of earth's occupants the snakes started their agenda

....

A little aways from the many hot dunes stood a huge rock that was carved from the inside, it stood alone in the outskirts of the tube and was carved crudely, as if done in haste

"This is the guest area, please make yourself comfortable here, we apologise if it's not up to standards but that's only because most of the desert's wanderers don't really seek fancy places to sleep...n-not that you seek only fancy houses or anything...or-or maybe you do but I'm sure for a good reas-"

The little snake kept on stammering in agitation as she made a few unintentionally bad remarks and tried to cover them up with even worse ones until YuJu gave her head a pat and just walked inside, putting an end to her funny show

Inside the two saw a bunch of rooms carved inside the huge rock, or perhaps melted is the right word as all the walls were charred black, a telltale sign of the lizard's fire being used to make this place, aside from that there were only some round rocks with feathers on them to act as a simple bed

Placing Anput's cage down he sat on one of the beds and relaxed his tired feet, its been a hassle training them but since he was already injured he might as well make use of the opportunity

"Master, did everything go well?"

"Yes, it's all going according to plan, we should receive their 'doctor' in a bit"

Ellis felt happy they didn't get into conflict with this trib as everyone who was in the room gave her a slightly pressuring feeling, except for the escorting snake but she didn't expect a scout to amount to much anyway

At the same time she felt quite aggravated due to her ignorance of what everyone was saying, not a single word she could understand and some letters even made her question her ability to talk, sounding much like weird painful sounds rather than letters

"When the snake comes in for an inspection make sure not to restrain the poison with your aura, let it run loose even if it might hurt a bit, but keep up the pretence that you have your aura active still"

"Yes Master, but is it okay to talk about this in here?"

Her eyes darted toward the entrance where she could feel the chattering hissing of the snake whos freezing outside, it was really cold and even she was feeling shivers every now and then, her aura kept her safe enough not to be harmed though

"Don't worry, just as you don't understand their language they don't understand ours, we can speak freely"

"I see"

It relieved her to know that she wasn't the only one suffering from this lack of knowledge, still she would need to learn the words of this new world

"If you are thinking about learning this language then don't, the Infidome doesn't have a universal language, instead we have regional languages for every huge kingdom, empire and alliance, the lands expand so fast that no one language can be spread to every corner of the world, furthermore there are many races that cant speak the same language or are generally unable to speak"

"? Then why do you know of this language Master"

Taking this discussion as an opportunity she threw in one of the questions she badly wanted to know, how was her Master so knowledgeable about the Infidome when their world was just introduced to it

"The human race will slowly be introduced to the new environment around it, this desert will be the home of many new alliances we would make with them, and as this nameless desert is a lonesome land that has its own language unrelated to the rest of the region we are in we must learn their words in order to communicate and forge these alliances, naturally I needed to learn it too"

His explanation caused her to be even more confused than before, he didn't really answer her question like she hoped but actually did answer why he learned the language making her unable to pursue this matter

'But what does he mean he 'needed' to learn it? Why do I feel like this word doesn't mean what it implies'

If the world was just introduced and he didn't seem like he wanted to stay here or forge any alliances with them himself then why did he need to learn it? No, why was it in past term? When exactly did he learn it?

"They are coming, play your part well and don't give them a chance to talk to you, if they do then il handle it"

"Okay Master"

Before her mind lost itself in the endless barrage of question that she felt got her closer and closer to the truth he pointed out her need to focus, ending her pursuit of truth

"..."

Looking at Ellis who closed he eyes to focus her mind on preparing her aura for her role in the plan he fell into deep thought, what he was grinding his mind about was unknown but clearly he didn't plan on sharing it with her anytime soon
