Chapter 4: Don’t Be Afraid, Mother is Here!

Now that she has come back after suffering for a lifetime and now that she still has her mother, she will live a good life. For that, she would have to carefully protect everything in front of her, otherwise everything would collapse again beyond her control.

“Liang Liang, this is for you.” Zhou Lanping searched her pockets for a long time, and finally found some money. She put the money in front of Liu Liang.

“When you finish spending the money, tell mom.”

Zhou Lanping smiled, as if she didn’t feel sorry for the money at all. But everyone could tell how short of money she was, as the clothes on her body were already washed white. Even the sleeves were hand stitched.

Liu Liang lowered her head and looked at the money on the table dumbly. People in the 1990s had only three or four hundred yuan for a month’s salary at this time. Zhou Lanping was a second-grade teacher in elementary school. At this time, the salary of elementary school teachers were lower: only three hundred and twenty yuan.

She took the money and counted it. There was a hundred yuan. It can be said that it was an ordinary family’s living expenses for one month.

Liu Liang suddenly thought of something and took her schoolbag from the ground, then searched through it for a long time, and finally took out a handful of money from a small pocket.

Because it was a long time back in her memory, she has forgotten some things. She still remembered that when she came back from Xu’s house, her mother gave her most of her salary. She had forgotten how exactly she spent the money at that time, but she just remembered that it was the most worry-free time in her life.

Whatever she wanted, she must have, what others have, she must have and what others don’t, she must also have that. So she spent a lot of money, she didn’t even know that Zhou Lanping, an ordinary elementary school teacher, only has three hundred yuan a month. With a salary of a few hundred yuan, how difficult was it to raise oneself and a daughter who spent a lot of money?

She grabbed the money and stuffed it directly into her schoolbag.

Then she picked up her schoolbag and walked into her room. Her mother lived in the small room, and she lived in the big room in their house. Now she really felt that Zhou Lanping wasn’t raising a daughter at all, but instead an ancestor.

There was a saying that children were the parents’ enemies from thier previous life. Liu Liang tought that it was true and she must have been her mother’s big enemy. Aferall, if it wasn’t the case, how could she have done it to her own biological mother? Why did she have to push her mother on the path of suicide, just to allow her(Liu Liang) to live a few more days.

She clutched her head as the memories of her two lifetimes became clear in her mind, which also felt as if a pile of things being forcibly stuffed into her head and about to be blown up.

Throwing the schoolbag to the ground, she threw herself on the wooden bed to calm herself. There was a unique atmosphere outside of this era. There was no traffic jam, and there was no smog in the winter. The air at this time was still fresh.

She didn’t even cover herself with the quilt and closed her eyes closed, as the memories of her past lives came madly rushing into her mind.

This was the deepest, most painful parts of her memory.

A young girl carried her schoolbag and walked into a magnificent house. For her who didn’t wan’t to live in a small house with a few people and where dozens of people shared a toilet building, this place was like heaven.

“Although you have nothing to do with our family, you were also raised by our family.” The lady raised her eyes and cast a glance at the shabby girl. “Your mom is really incompetent. It was just a few days and you have become this shabby.” The girl just stood there in embarassment.

“It’s not impossible for you to come back.” The woman snorted coldly, and said as if she was doing charity.

“If you want to come back, you can still belong to our Xu family, but our Xu family dare not support you in vain. You have to clean all the toilets in this house, wash the clothes and do all the cooking. After all, if not for you and your mother my Jiajia wouldn’t have suffered for twelve years in vain.”

The girl clenched her fists, but in the end she nodded her head. In order to return to the a place where she was not welcomed, she had to endure this. But those words broke her heart.

In the place which was like a palace, she was proided a run-down storage room. There was no window and only a dilapidated wooden bed. She had to wake up earlier than five o’clock every day, and she had to start cleaning the house, buy vegetables and finally do the cooking. She was always busy. On the outside she lived a luxurious life, but in the interior, what was she?

Time was like a mirror, broken into pieces. Each piece was her humble day. She smiled at others and acted proud in front of her classmates. She was like a parasite, living in this rich family, yet deserted. She never even enjoyed life, she wased her youth. Finally she fell ill and she was thrown out like rubbish. Her mother took her back, fed her, dressed her, treated her illness, and gave her all the money she saved.

Her mother said that she was her own daughter, so, no matter how bad she was, she was always her mother’s treasure.

The woman used her thin shoulders to prop up a broken home, as well as a daughter who was never obedient.

No matter what others said, she always regarded her daughter as a treasure.

They said, don’t save her, she couldn’t be saved.

They said that she didn’t recognize you and thought you were poor. Why are you saving her now?

They said that she is a white-eyed wolf (aka. Biting the hands that fed her), even if she lives in the future, she would still abandon her mother and go to the rich.

But her stupid mother still sold out all the things that could be sold, borrowed all the money that could be borrowed just to save her life.

A door opened, and a skinny woman came in. She walked to the hospital bed, holding a hand that looked like a chicken paw.

No matter what the situation was, she still put on a warm smile, just like her hands, warm, gentle, inclusive, and soothing.

“Don’t be afraid, Mom will save you.”

But no one could see that her shoulders were tremble slightly when she was smiling.

Save? How to save her? They were penniless and they can’t even afford a bowl of rice.

The woman raised her hand and gently stroked her daughter’s already non-human face.

She said this frequently, “Don’t be afraid, Mother is here”.

That night, the wind was very strong, and it was even raining. The skinny woman was standing in the wind and rain. She raised her face. THer face was very pale and beneath the wrinkles was a face that was so thin and out of shape.

She watched as one car after another rushed past the wind and rain and suddenly, she ran towards one car.

Then she was slammed into it, and fell heavily. Although her state was pitiful, strangely, her face was peaceful.

The corners of her lips moved slightly and she finally said, “Don’t be afraid, mother is here…”
