The Struggle of a Weak Aristocrat in a Different World C7: Potato (Solanum tuberosum)

The village chief brought me a potato.

“Chief! Let’s grow this in the village!”

“But Chris, aren’t these potatoes poisonous?”

“No, these potatoes are edible, only the shoots are poisonous. I need fire, oil and salt.

“Huh. But if you eat that potato and get sick, you may not be able to live until tomorrow…”

The village chief looks at me suspiciously, but with a somewhat expectant look on his face.

“All right. I’ll send money to anyone who has a stomachache.”

“No, no, I don’t think so, but just in case, you know. I’ll go and get it then!”

He happily went to get his tools. The old man was a real cash cow. A few minutes later, the chief arrived with a large number of villagers, carrying tools in their hands.

“The villagers happened to be idle, so I brought them all here.”

It’s definitely not a coincidence. I’m sure you’re looking for the money to pay the people. I’ve been preparing potatoes to make sure everyone gets a little bit of everything.

“Oh well. I’ll start cooking right away. Yulis, can you help me?”

“I can’t help it. I’m willing to work together with Chris-sama, so I’ll lend you a hand.”

Thus, with Yulis’ help, I made steamed potatoes and potato chips.

“Please, eat.”

I handed them over to the villagers and the chief, who were attracted by the smell.

“The potato chips are crispy and salty, and the steamed potatoes are crunchy and delicious!”

The rest of the villagers ate as well, looking equally satisfied.

“Now you know the usefulness of potatoes, don’t you? Please spread the word about growing potatoes in this and other villages, and be proactive in growing potatoes.”

“All right, then! If the crops are so good, let’s grow more of them!”

Okay. I guess that’s it for rural reform for now.

“I’ll come back tomorrow to check on you, then.”

And then I left, riding closely together with Yulis.

The next day, the village was flooded with people pretending to have stomachaches, but that’s another story.
