Ever since the apocalypse started, City M had been in a state of chaos.

Unlike the city Yin Yiliu and the others had come from, the greenery here had been well-maintained, and there were many wild animals. After The First Fog, the entire city was taken over by plants, with some of the underground roots even breaking out through cement floors.

The wild animals that escaped from the zoo had also grown in size and were very difficult to handle.

This dangerous situation was infinitely magnified after occurence of The Second Fog.

In such cases, the military stationed in City M wasn’t of much help.

Because this city was a bit different, there were approximately 20% more people who mutated than in other cities. There were around three evolved people in every ten survivors.

When the apocalypse came, these people formed their own small teams and refused to obey the orders of the military. After severely injuring some innocent soldiers, they hid in the trees. The military couldn’t do anything about them.

The group of people Yin Yiliu met was such a team.

Previously led by the man who was now unconscious, more than a dozen people hunted together. Almost half of them were evolved people; life after the apocalypse had been fairly easy for them.

But with the strange fog that suddenly appeared that night, and no one could see anything within the fog. Some evolved people even fell into a deep sleep.

When they woke up one after another, they discovered that some of their companions had their heads bitten off during their sleep, and the red and white brain matter flowed all over the place. They were panicked and nauseous.

They had no choice but to carry their leader, who was still in a coma, to the city’s outskirts. The place they lived in had completely turned into a jungle, with the roots of those plants breaking through the cement and growing wildly.

But who knew that when they finally made it to the outskirts of the city, they met these mutated jackals.

Everyone was in despair. The strongest evolved person amongst them was still asleep and the speed and hardness of the skin of these jackals had vastly improved. A few guns that were about to run out of bullets simply was not enough to kill them.

The people and the three jackals fell into a stalemate. No one moved.

In the fog, human eyes could not see as well as animal eyes; they were already at a disadvantage. But luckily they were more in numbers so these jackals were afraid to act rashly.

The bodies of the jackals had gotten way bigger, and they were as tall as the chest level of a human adult. They exhaled hot air with opened mouths, and their drool dripped all over the ground.

The guns could not kill them, but the excruciating pain brought from the gunshot wounds instilled fear in them.

They were intelligent creatures, and even more so after their evolution. After the standstill, the slightly skinnier one was the first to move. It growled and lunged at the man in front.

Fortunately, this person was also an evolved person. With great strength and accuracy, he immediately lifted the machete in his hand and slammed it onto the jackal’s head.

The jackal took a direct hit to the head. It howled and backed away. When it raised its head again, its nose and mouth were oozing blood. It had been completely enraged. With its eyes turning red, the jackal howled and pounced at the people once again.

This howl served as a signal to the other mutated jackals. At this instant, all three of them barked and charged at the people.

The person with the gun in his hand fired at random, and one of the bullets struck the nose of one of the jackals. Its nose exploded instantly from the impact at such a short distance, and blood gushed out of it. But instead of retreating, the jackal became even more agitated.

For a while, the thick fog was filled with howls, gunshots, and screams.

Two of the jackals were blocked by the evolved people in front of them, but these mutated animals were very tenacious. Even though they had a few puncture wounds on their bodies, they still fought with lots of vigor. In fact, the agitated animals fought even more fiercely because of it.

One of the middle-aged men was pounced upon by the other jackal. This man was also a member of the team, but he was just an ordinary person. When facing the jackal, his legs went weak; he had no chance against the jackal.

The jackal ripped open the man’s throat, and a strong smell of blood spread in the air. Everyone’s eyes went red. His close friends yelled and dashed towards him.

The man’s death seemed to have ripped a hole into the team. The other ordinary people saw the tragic scene of their buddy being torn apart in front of them and thought of escaping. One of them started to run away, and the whole team fell apart.

The evolved people on the other side were already very close to killing the two jackals, but their burdens increased when the teammates behind them fled. The man who was the first to resist against the skinny jackal suddenly felt a heavy weight on his back, and he could smell its smelly breath.

He turned his head in horror, and his ears and his cheeks were instantly ripped off; he screamed at the top of his lungs.

In the grass, Yin Yiliu shuddered at the sight of the bloody scene. She watched as the jackals went in another direction.

The person who was protected in the middle and strenuously carried the unconscious man on their back was a woman. She looked like an ordinary person.

As their defense line fell apart and her teammates were killed one by one, the pale-faced woman hid behind a tree with the man on her back. When she saw the jackal with half its face covered in blood slowly approaching them, she burst into tears.

The last thing she saw before she closed her eyes was a huge, bloody mouth leaping towards her. She braced herself for her impending death.

However, the expected pain did not come. Instead, the jackal’s wailing was so close to her that it almost pierced through her eardrums. She turned her head in surprise and saw nothing, but the jackal that had leaped towards her was shaking violently.

After a while, a white furball the size of a human head was thrown off the jackal’s back. It bounced on the ground very elastically and jumped back onto the jackal.

The back of the mutated jackal was cut with three long and deep slits. While the woman was grateful that they were saved, she hugged the man tightly in her arms in worry.

What exactly is this thing?

It was so small, yet it was far more powerful than the mutated jackal. She couldn’t help but worry that she had run into an even more dangerous animal.

Her teammates finally killed the two jackals and rushed towards her. By the time they faced the jackal, it was already dying from the fatal wound on its back and could barely stand up.

One of the evolved men smashed his elbow into the jackal’s head. The animal finally let out its dying breath.

They exhaled sighs of relief, and the joy of surviving through the calamity caused their tightened hearts to loosen. Their legs gave out from beneath them, and they plopped onto the ground, staring at the miserable scene and mourning for their dead companions.

After a long while, they continued to carry the unconscious man. Two of the survivors cut off several pieces of the jackal meat with their knives and stored it in their bags as food.

When they turned the dead mutated jackal over, they noticed the deep ‘knife’ cuts on its back, and they all had lingering fears.

It seemed that there were other, more terrifying creatures hidden in the thick fog!

Little did they know that the dangerous ‘fierce beast’ they were afraid of was in pain at the time.

The author has something to say: Bunny is the fiercest, no explanation needed!

Spoiler

Spoiler alert, Little Bunny Girl will appear in the next chapter. Bunny can finally become a human!

[collapse]

Also: Some readers reminded me that bunny tails are actually quite fragile and easy to break, so don’t simply pull them. I wrote about mutated rabbits, so there will be some tail grabbing involved. But don’t do this at home!
