Chapter 35.1 - Wen Renjing Who Came From a Family of Hunters (1/4)

The two parties exchanged information that they wanted to know with information they knew. Liu Meng and the others lived on the edge of City M. What they were most interested in learning about was the current situation in City M, as well as how much the giant tree that made them suffer had grown.

At the same time, he told Jin Yang and his teammates the current distribution of power within City Z.

As one of the largest survival bases in the country besides City B, at present, the people in City Z had been divided into multiple parties, but the parties were led by only two people.

One of them was an admiral from the central government, Li Zhenjiang. His subordinates mainly consisted of soldiers and some evolved people that they had recruited. They were very powerful in City Z.

The second was a businessman from before the apocalypse. He was the richest man in City Z, Niu Feihuang. He was said to be in-laws with a prominent politician in City B. Because he had received some information before the apocalypse, he had been stockpiling goods and supplies. As soon as the apocalypse arrived, he began to build the base and gained control of most of the power.

Headed by these two people, there were many smaller groups of evolved people who had defected from various cities. These people had a diverse array of evolved forms, displaying the wonders of life to the extreme, and it was difficult even for capable people to make it in the city.

One wrong move and one would die in a group fight or in the mouths of mutated animals and plants.

As a result, City Z was both a chaotic and safe place.

Liu Meng had heard that the mutated plants in the vicinity of City Z had been eradicated and burned to ashes by using their newly invented drugs. Some plants with evolved weak consciousness had retreated at least a hundred meters away from the city.

In addition, there were patrol teams made up of evolved people and young adults to guard against mutated animals 24 hours a day. Such armed defense capabilities far outmatched the capabilities of the small Flying Dragon Base. It was no wonder that everyone wanted to go to big bases.

The larger the base, the safer it was.

Jin Yang also told Liu Meng about the current situation in City M. When he said that the giant tree used flowers as weapons and continuously devoured surrounding life forms to grow stronger, Liu Meng frowned deeply.

It wasn’t that they hadn’t considered getting rid of the tree before, but it was an arduous yet fruitless task.

If, according to Jin Yang, it was only a matter of time before the tree’s reach spread to City W and endanger Flying Dragon Base, then this piece of information was of vital importance to their base.

When he thought about this, the smile on Liu Meng’s face became more genuine, and at the same time, his desire to recruit Jin Yang and his teammates became stronger.

He looked over at the black wolf pup wagging its tail not far away. Its shiny black fur was particularly conspicuous, and a cloud of white lay on its smooth back. A rabbit was repeatedly rolling on the wolf’s back.

He said with a slight envious tone, “If I’m guessing correctly, this mutated animal you tamed is still in its juvenile form, right? It could defeat a mutated cat twice its size. After it grows up, it will be at least level three or four. You’re really lucky!”

Jin Yang raised his brow slightly. He didn’t know that mutated animals had been divided into levels, so he was a little curious. “How so?”

Liu Meng wanted to have a good relationship with their team, so he didn’t hide things that they would eventually find out on their own. “You may not know this since you just came out of a place like City M where even birds do not shit1,” he explained, “but the higher-ups had divided mutated animals into levels, roughly according to their mutated sizes.”

“Small insects, mutated mice, and so forth are generally classified as level one mutated animals; poultry and small wild animals less than two meters in length are classified as level two; beasts with body sizes greater than two meters are level three. While extremely large tigers and wolves, as well as other super-sized animals, belong to level four. Based on the shape and attack power of this black wolf, it will grow up to be at least level three, probably even level four.”

While talking, Liu Meng looked at the black wolf pup, lamenting the fact that their entire base had never successfully tamed a mutated animal, because mutated animals were usually manic and extremely bloodthirsty. Even if they were locked in cages, they would keep destroying them.

No wonder Si-er, the young man who had a dispute with Jin Yang and his teammates, coveted the wolf and repeatedly expressed his desire to snatch it away.

""

Liu Meng assumed that Jin Yang’s success in subduing the black wolf was entirely due to luck, coincidentally running into the pup when its mother had just died. He didn’t consider other possibilities at all.

He looked at the men behind him. Si-er, who always enjoyed being in the limelight, was missing, probably fooling around somewhere else. He asked his subordinate, “Have you seen Si-er?”

The man with the prickly hair behind him shrugged. He and Old Si shared a room. Old Si didn’t return home last night. He must have gone out to have fun again.

Liu Meng sighed in his heart and didn’t ask any further. He was well aware of the character of his men. He assumed that Si-er had gone on a prowl again.2

Little did he know that on the bottom of the man-made lake behind the hotel restaurant, quietly lay a corpse that had been gnawed until only the skeleton remained. He would never be able to find this subordinate of his.
