Yan Qing Chi, who “knew what he was frigging doing”, faced off against the super confident Liao Si Bo.

Liao Si Bo stood across from him with his arms crossed, “You go first.”

Yan Qing Chi thought about it, “That works.”

And then he made the opening shot by breaking the rack1.

Ren Xu nudged Jiang Mo Chen, “Hey, this partner of yours is rather interesting. When he kissed you on purpose, Liao Si Bo was so pissed off.”

He looked at Jiang Mo Chen, “Speaking of which, why did he have such an overreaction? Holy sh*t, don’t tell me that Liao Si Bo is in fact secretly in love with you?”

Jiang Mo Chen glanced at him, speechless, “You have never passed a single literature class since you were a kid, right?”

“Nonsense, the subject I failed was English.”

“Close enough. They’re both related to reading comprehension anyway.”

“That’s because I couldn’t remember the vocabulary, so I couldn’t read it.”

“So, is not being able to remember the vocabulary something to be proud of?”

Ren Xu was about to refute that question when he heard Liao Si Bo sneer, “Man, and here I thought you were going to be quite formidable from the way you acted earlier. You are nothing.”

Ren Xu turned his head to look over and saw that the person at the pool table had already changed. It was Liao Si Bo’s turn.

“Ai, don’t worry. In a bit, after Liao Si Bo’s done playing, I’ll immediately bring him out. This guy’s seriously too much today, he’s practically asking for a beating.”

“Then let’s teach him a lesson before we let him leave.”

Ren Xu thought about it, “Well, sure, as long as we don’t hit his face. Otherwise, even his own mother might not be able to recognize him anymore. She’ll probably cry if we mess up that pretty face.”

Jiang Mo Chen let out a cold, malignant laugh, “Oh, that won’t do. Today I’m aiming just for his face.”

Ren Xu patted his shoulder, “Hopefully your significant other doesn’t get angry.”

At his words, Jiang Mo Chen turned to check on Yan Qing Chi. He saw the other man with his eyes fixed on Liao Si Bo’s movements. Was Yan Qing Chi angry? As he carefully thought about it, he became uncertain. The other man appeared to act the same as he had been since the time that Jiang Mo Chen got to know him. He (YQC) seemed as collected and even-tempered as usual. There was no sign of indignance nor any fury. There was merely a fleeting spark2, scarcely even scratching the surface.

Jiang Mo Chen couldn’t quite gauge his (YQC) emotions, just like he couldn’t predict what Yan Qing Chi was thinking right at this very moment.

Yan Qing Chi’s thoughts about this were actually very simple, because he surmised that his performance was decent enough. Things were going to wrap up soon. He was about to win.

Liao Si Bo pocketed more than one ball consecutively before he smugly stepped down. In a contemptuous tone, he told Yan Qing Chi, “You better not cry when you lose.”

Yan Qing Chi smiled, turning his head to say, “Vice versa.”

“Hmph, and you’re still talking big3.”

Yan Qing Chi paid him no mind. He grabbed his cue stick and walked to the side of the table. He lowered his body, got into position, slightly squinted, then struck the cue ball.

In Yan Qing Chi’s memories, he started playing pool a long time ago. At that time, he hadn’t yet called this type of recreational activity “pool”; he followed his father in calling it “billiards”. During that time, the type that he played was this kind of billiards. Later on, because they wanted to keep up with the trend, he and his friends started to play snooker.

Because of his family’s background, Yan Qing Chi must be a good player in a variety of games——of course he had to play well, because he was his father’s son. His father was not an ordinary person and Yan Qing Chi considered himself fortunate to be adopted by someone like him. To not let his father down, Yan Qing Chi set several goals for himself. He hoped that he could be exceptional enough. Yan Qing Chi hoped that he was exceptional enough that even though his father had already become an ordinary old man who leisurely raised birds and walked dogs, he (YQC) could become a preeminent figure among the younger generation. And in that position of status and influence, he wished to protect his younger brother and guard their family clan’s new business.

As Yan Qing Chi thought about this part, he couldn’t refrain from being relieved. Fortunately, there was still his younger brother. Otherwise, how could his parents take the news of his random transmigration?

With this thought in mind, he pocketed the last ball with nostalgic feelings.

Then he turned to look towards the people who were dumbstruck. He slightly cocked his head to the side and stated very naturally, “I won.”

A smile hung on his lips and the tone he used was serene, as if this was something that couldn’t be any more normal. However, the other people on the scene were clearly not as unperturbed as he was.

Liao Si Bo walked over, looking between him and then at the pool table in disbelief, his expression incredulous.

Yan Qing Chi asked him, “Do you want to play another round?”

“Come.” Liao Si Bo hollered.

“Do I go first or do you?”

“I’ll go first.”

This time Liao Si Bo didn’t go easy on him. He (LSB) raised his cue stick with slightly trembling fingers, and scrutinized the pool balls that were re-racked.

Ren Xu turned to Jiang Mo Chen, “Hey, your partner is pretty good at this. You found a good one.”

Jiang Mo Chen’s expression was somewhat grave. He said, “I didn’t know.”

He certainly did not know, it hadn’t been included in the information that he read on Yan Qing Chi. Not to mention, when they were first getting to know each other, he hadn’t played this with Yan Qing Chi. Although Yan Qing Chi had already told him not to worry before the match, he was well aware of Liao Si Bo’s skill. So he thought that the other man said that to reassure him. He hadn’t expected that Yan Qing Chi’s reassurance was actually the truth——his skill level was far above Liao Si Bo’s.

Liao Si Bo consecutively pocketed several balls before he made a ‘bad hit’ and stepped down to watch as Yan Qing Chi started to play.

Yan Qing Chi looked briefly at him, sauntered over to the spot that he had selected, then lowered his body and began his offensive attack.

His form was exemplary, and his tranquil side profile while he took aim was picture perfect. His fingers were very slender and long. Jiang Mo Chen had watched that pair of adept hands hold a drawing utensil, and now he had seen him holding a cue stick.

Yan Qing Chi seemed to have noticed his gaze. He lifted his eyes slightly in his (JMC) direction, his eyebrows rising, charming and enticing. His lips curved into a smile that carried tinges of gentleness and temptation, yet was picturesque.

And then Yan Qing Chi turned his attention back on his shots.

Liao Si Bo spectated his smooth and triumphant progress as he remained unruffled, at ease, and super confident. With each sound the cue stick made as it struck at the balls, his consciousness became increasingly tense. This lasted until Yan Qing Chi set down his cue stick and once again remarked that he won in such a natural tone, as if it was predetermined that he would win. In the end, Liao Si Bo finally regained some of his senses and stared at him in a daze.

Yan Qing Chi straightened up on the other side of the pool table and asked, “Do you still want to compete?”

Liao Si Bo remained silent.

“If not, then apologize to me.”

" "

Liao Si Bo was surprised, he hadn’t thought that he would say that.

He stared at Yan Qing Chi, only to see the other man put on a cold and detached expression. Yan Qing Chi’s words were firm and forbidding, “‘Contemptible’, ‘disgusting’, these demeaning  words should never be said directly to the person’s face. The mouth grows on your person, I cannot control what you say. It’s fine if you don’t like me and want to badmouth me. It’s just your opinion. After all, who doesn’t have someone or something that they love or hate? But when one hits someone, we don’t aim for the face. Watch what you say in front of others, especially me. Watch your mouth, you’re embarrassing not only me but Jiang Mo Chen as well. The two of you are friends, and you need to resolve whatever issues you may have between yourselves. As for my part in this? You need to apologize to me. There is no reason for you to drag me into your petty arguments, nor will I stand by and have you insult me. ”

Liao Si Bo was stunned. He stared at him with a blank expression.

No one had expected that Yan Qing Chi would give this speech at this time, just like no one had expected that he would win over Liao Si Bo.

“Apologize.” Jiang Mo Chen was the first to break this silence, dissolving the solemnness.

He walked over to Liao Si Bo and made eye contact, his tone serious, “I don’t care about the reason why you kept attacking him today. But Yan Qing Chi did not do anything wrong to you, nor did he ever talk ill of you before. You have no reasons nor excuses to criticize him. If it is because of me, you’ve already made enough of a ruckus today. Liao Si Bo, if you do not apologize to him, then there is no need for us to stay in contact any longer.”

Liao Si Bo looked at him, flabbergasted, “You want to break off relations with me for him.”

Liao Si Bo looked at them, then at Jiang Mo Chen who donned a stern expression, and finally he turned his face towards the composed Yan Qing Chi.

He cast his head to the side, then said curtly, “I’m sorry.”

“And?”

“I shouldn’t have spoken of you like that.”

Yan Qing Chi nodded, “Alright. Seeing as you’re Jiang Mo Chen’s friend, I forgive you.”

Liao Si Bo clenched his jaw, brusquely turned around, and made his way towards the door.

The author has something to say:

Up ‘til this chapter, everyone should be able to piece together what Yan Qing Chi’s life was like before he transmigrated into the book. It was basically something like this: He was first in the orphanage in his younger years. Later on, he was adopted by a big shot and became the little young master of the house, the little crown prince of the family clan. He developed many skills as he grew up. Moreover, because he had a brother who was several years younger than him, he has experience handling little kids.

Footnotes

This is pool lingo!! There was no destruction of property. Here is an explanation of how you break the rack. Here is a brief explanation of how you play pool in general.f anyone cares, the raw was as so: 没有愤懑也没有怒火,只有刚刚突如其来的蜻蜓点水的一下,像火星溅到皮肤一般带着灼人的炽热。Regarding the “fleeting spark”, the original was this specific part: 只有刚刚突如其来的蜻蜓点水的一下.  “蜻蜓点水” is an idiom. Literally, it means “the dragonfly touches the water lightly” but it is an idiom for “superficial contact” (according to MDBG). So. Fun fact for you! This is the English equivalent of the Chinese, which was “还说大话” (“still talk big”). I swear it’s a real colloquial term.
