After the news of Ruan san niang’s abrupt decision to go to the Imperial Family’s shrine to practice Buddhism was made public, the reactions varied.

A few days ago, this Ruan fei niangniang was still trying to torment and scheme against her own younger sister, and now she wanted to practice Buddhism, was she not afraid of disturbing the tranquillity of the religious and sacred land?

The imperial concubines in the back palace were similar to Ruan Xi in the sense that they loved to hear and see it. With Ruan san niang entering the Imperial Family’s shrine, they would have a month of peace.

Whereas some idle people who loved to watch the commotion felt rather regretful because they no longer had a good show to watch.

At the present moment, after Ruan san niang’s confinement was dissolved, she dispatched her servants to gather the information inside and outside of the imperial palace immediately.

When the people under Emperor Shengde saw that she was only collecting some unimportant information, in addition to the fact that she was going to the Imperial Family’s shrine to practice Buddhism in the next few days, they allowed her to do as she pleased.

To that end, Ruan san niang proceeded to learn that her fourth sister’s husband Wen Ting Zhou had discovered the high-yielding crops from Yao Hong’s mouth, and that the old Emperor was preparing to promote the crops of maize, potato, and yam with a mighty force next year.

“Yao Hong, are you certain that your information is accurate? Was it really discovered by Wen Ting Zhou?”

Ruan san niang had been plagued by nightmares in the recent days, which made her entire person look unbearably wan and sallow, and she had no choice but to smear on powder to conceal it. Presently, the handkerchief in her hand had been twisted into a ball as terrible waves surged in her heart.

In the previous lifetime, the three crops yam, maize, and potato were clearly found by the people she dispatched overseas.

In this lifetime, it was unexpectedly discovered by Wen Ting Zhou.

Was it possible that he was reborn too?

Hence why he stole the things that belonged to her.

Ruan san niang’s complexion went through a huge change as her heart quickened from the pressing anxiety.

After going through a careful deliberation this time around, she specifically took out the formula for manufacturing glass first.

The cement formula was still tightly covered.

If Wen Ting Zhou was reborn, was he already burning water and clay in secret?

Ruan san niang became more panicked the more she thought about it, and she became more terrified with every thought.

If she did not have a huge contribution to depend on in this lifetime, was she going to die an early and tragic death like in her previous lifetime?

No, she did not want to!

With some bewilderment, Yao Hong observed her Niangniang’s changing complexion before she lowered her head and explained in detail.

When all was said and done, it involved the Fourth Young Lady whom Niangniang was at odds with. When she previously recounted the information, she had intentionally left it out.

“Yes. There is hearsay that the Fourth Young Lady read a book called Zhang Liang’s Travel Journal, and felt that the things written inside were very interesting, albeit awfully exaggerated. She proceeded to show it to Wen daren, who immediately looked for that roaming merchant by the name of Zhang Liang after he read it, and managed to obtain the three crops yam, maize, and potato. After he tried planting it, he reported it to the morning court.”

Ruan san niang’s mind abruptly loosened upon hearing it. It turns out Wen Ting Zhou was not reborn, but once she thought about how the high-yielding crops had appeared in advance because her fourth sister was prompted by a sudden impulse to read the book which led to this butterfly effect, Ruan san niang could not help but become fretful and restless.

The high-yielding crops were also items that she was planning to use to accumulate her achievements and virtue. However, before she could organise a fleet to go overseas to search for those crops like in her previous lifetime, it had already appeared.

Ruan san niang felt a certain kind of vague unease, and she secretly hated her fourth sister for spoiling her good matters.

She was going to use those crops to accumulate her merits, and yet her fourth sister had the audacity to steal it!

Despicable!

A trace of fierce ruthlessness flashed past Ruan san niang’s eyes.

Yao Hong and Yao Si were secretly stunned upon seeing that. They exchanged looks quietly. Their Niangniang was not going to stir more moths again, was she?

The pair trembled with fear at that thought.

In the past, Yao Hong would still have some disloyal thoughts, but after witnessing Ruan san niang’s luck and tactics, she perished those small thoughts.

Ruan san niang took a deep breath. Her thoughts were unfathomable, but she suddenly revealed a strange smiling expression.

“Yao Hong, go and find two good-looking palace maids who have gone through special training and bring them over. Si mei is really something, her body is clearly inconvenient, and yet she still monopolises Wen daren, refusing to let him admit concubines. How could this be, as the legitimate wife, how could she be so jealous?”

“Forget it, it’s better if I extend a hand to help her.”

Ruan san niang sounded like she was so devoted to righteousness that it could inspire reverence.

She needed to accumulate her achievements and virtue right now, so she could not be heavy-handed towards Ruan Xi, but she could disgust and make her feel revolted.

And if she were to become angry, the problem would rest with her if something were to happen, no?

Ruan san niang silently gave herself a thumbs-up.

Yao Hong was dumbstruck.

Had her Niangniang become muddled in the brain?

“Niangniang, what should be done if the Fourth Young Lady becomes angry owing to your actions?”

What Yao Hong actually wanted to say was: Which older sister sticks her hand into her younger sister’s back courtyard, and sends her younger sister’s husband women?

Ruan san niang spoke out sternly from a sense of justice: “I am helping my fourth younger sister by doing this, if she doesn’t appreciate my kindness, I can’t do anything either.”

Yao Hong: “……”

“Nubi will go and look for them right now.”

Since Wen Ting Zhou was in Hanlin Academy, Ruan Xi was currently drinking tea and chatting with Wen furen in the main courtyard.

With the imperial physician taking her pulse and telling Ruan Xi that she might be carrying a male baby, a smile could be frequently seen on Wen furen’s face, and she would inquire about Ruan Xi’s well-being daily.

“Xiao Xi, the weather is growing colder by the day, and your stomach is becoming bigger too. I previously asked the servants to make quite a few sets of winter clothes that fit your body, it will be sent over in two days.”

“One has troubled popo.” Ruan Xi said smilingly.

Wen furen smiled while vocalising her annoyance with a sentence. “We’re one family, what do you mean by troubling or not troubling, it is too estranging.

“You don’t need to worry either. Although the imperial physician said that it might be a male child, no one can be certain until the child is born. Even if it’s a girl, she’s still my legitimate granddaughter.”

Wen furen had personally experienced it. As the months wore on, the proclivity to have nonsensical thoughts tended to increase, and she did not want to give her daughter-in-law any pressure. After giving birth to this baby, would the second child be far away? She would get to carry her grandson soon or later.

She was not in a rush.

A gust of warmth surged up Ruan Xi’s heart.

At this moment, Su Yu rushed over with a terrible expression. After she bent her knees and bowed to Wen furen and Ruan Xi, she made her report:

“Furen, Shao Furen, Ruan fei niangniang’s close maidservant Yao Hong guniang has arrived, and she brought two good-looking palace maids with her, stating that she is under Ruan fei niangniang’s orders to give them to gu ye.”

Two good-looking palace maids?

Give them to Wen Ting Zhou?

The smile hanging on Ruan Xi’s lips disappeared. She recalled the two dowry maidservants that Zhang shi gave her back when, namely the Su Shan and Su Hu of today, who were already content with their lots.

And presently, Ruan san niang was following the recipe by mimicking Zhang shi’s method. Back then, Zhang shi was her legitimate mother and elder, but Ruan san niang is her contemporary; even if she became a Niangniang, she was not allowed to stick her hand into the back courtyard of her younger sister’s husband’s family.

Ruan san niang was trying to disgust and revolt her by doing this.

Truly, she was the ominous ghost that lingered on.

Ruan Xi chortled. If Ruan san niang thought that she could impale a knife into her heart by doing this and anger her to the point where she disturbed her foetal energy, then she was too naive.

Wen furen maintained her smile, though her gaze darkened slightly as a trace of anger flashed past the depths of her eyes.

This Ruan fei niangniang dispatched her servant to bring two good-looking palace maids and indicated that it was for her son. She did not even need to think about it to understand her purpose.

As a popo, she did not even give her own son any women, and yet Ruan fei niangniang, an outsider, was actually interceding in this matter.

Ruan fei niangniang was really overreaching with her hands.

She actually used such a disgusting method to provoke the pregnant Xiao Xi.

Her despicable heart was filled with ulterior motives!

Wen furen was enraged.

When Su Yu, Su Zhu, and the rest saw the enraged Wen furen, they released a breath in secret.

It was fortunate that Furen was standing on their Young Lady’s side.

“Su Yu, ask Yao Hong to bring them over.” Ruan Xi instructed with a faint smile.

Wen furen had a face of disapproval. “Xiao Xi, it will suffice if I appear and reject it, you don’t need to acknowledge it.”

Ruan Xi touched her swelling stomach, not objecting. At this juncture, it was best for Wen furen to appear personally.

“[I] will be troubling popo then. Popo need not worry, me and san jie have already fallen out acrimoniously, and it’s merely two palace maids. I have never taken it to heart from the very beginning.”

Seeing that her daughter-in-law was indeed unaffected by this, Wen furen felt slightly more assured as she went to deal with this issue.
