Inside the dream.

Once Ruan Xi gained consciousness, she realised that she had inexplicably become a seven to eight month old foetus.

According to what she heard from the woman harbouring her, and the people surrounding her, she learned that she had reincarnated into the womb of a concubine in an Earl Residence.

As a person who had transmigrated and reincarnated, why did she have memories of when she was once an orphan?

Did she reincarnate with her memories?

Ruan Xi was stupefied.

However, Ruan Xi did mull over the fact that she had reincarnated with her memories intact too much, and she continued to wait for her birth in the womb of the biological mother she had in this lifetime.

But she hoped that she could be born into a healthy body this time around, so she could avoid dying arbitrarily.

While she was lucid, she would hear bits and pieces of information about the Earl Residence.

“Yiniang, the wetnurse has been found, her husband’s family runs a store that sells miscellaneous goods, she just gave birth to a son.”

“The child will be born in less than a month, I told the Earl to bring Xu shi into the Earl Residence first.”

“Yiniang, is it really alright for us to go past the Furen?”

“I’ve already brought this up to Furen, but Furen kept delaying the matter. I’m scared that I can’t afford to wait, and could only mention it to the Earl.”

“Nubi hopes that yiniang is pregnant with a son. This way, yiniang will have a backing in the future.”

“Let’s hope. Regardless of whether this baby is male or female, and with the importance that the Earl and Lao Taitai attach to their descendants, they will not mistreat my child.”

Half a month later.

Her biological mother started feeling waves of pain, and it was incredibly noisy outside. The voices of midwife, physician, and Mamas reverberated ceaselessly, and Ruan Xi felt like she was going to be born soon, but she did not dare to randomly move because she did not want to put her biological mother through more pain than necessary.

The process of being born was exceedingly arduous, and Ruan Xi felt the amniotic fluid being squeezed and pressured… A burst of dizziness.

But before she could try her best to squeeze, there was a sudden yell of alarm.

“This is bad, metrorrhagia is happening!”

The birthing room descended into chao instantaneously.

“Stem the blood and save her, hurry up and stem the blood and save her!”

“This is terrible, the blood loss can’t be stopped!”

“Protect the child inside my stomach!” A weak-sounding female voice rang out.

It was yiniang.

“Yiniang!”

“Save the child!” The weak-sounding female voice released a strangled breath as she spoke.

Still inside the womb, Ruan Xi felt extremely anxious as she listened to voices outside, especially for her biological mother. Silently, she prayed that nothing would happen to her biological mother, and she wanted to be born as soon as possible to let the physician stem the blood for her biological mother. Hence, she tried her hardest to wriggle outwards, and climb outwards… Until her consciousness became increasingly blurry. All of a sudden, it felt like she was being carried up by someone, and a voice tinged with surprise sounded out.

“She’s born, she’s born!”

“It’s a young lady.”

Ruan Xi had exhausted all her mental strength, and she was incredibly tired. Once she knew that had been born safely, she wailed weakly and without strength, but then she heard someone crying out in alarm: “Yiniang has stopped breathing!”

Owing to the extreme fatigue, and the inability to accept this reality, Ruan Xi fainted instantaneously.

After she passed out, the dream abruptly ceased.

Ruan Xi woke up abruptly in fear.

Prior to this, Wen Ting Zhou had already sensed that Ruan Ruan was stirring in her sleep, and just as he was about to soothe her in his firm embrace, she woke up in fear.

The candlelight in the room was swaying and flickering; ever since Ruan Xi became pregnant, the candle stands in the room remained lit until the morning light arrived.

Amidst the dim candle light, Wen Ting Zhou could discern the tight scrunch between the space of Ruan Xi’s brows, which immediately clued him in on the fact that she was not having a good dream, and a burst of pain seized his heart.

“Ruan Ruan, don’t be afraid, don’t be afraid, I’m here.” Wen Ting Zhou hugged the still dreaming Ruan Xi as he constantly murmured words of comfort into her ears and gently patted her back.

After Ruan Xi was rudely awoken, she was trapped in a daze for a while. She felt like she had just experienced a difficult fight for survival which sapped out all the strength in her body, making her feel endlessly fatigued. At this moment, she heard Wen TIng Zhou’s low, deep, and gentle voice comforting her next to her ear, and her state of mind stabilised.

Upon seeing Ruan Ruan waking up in fear, Wen Ting Zhou could not resist hugging her tighter and pressing a light kiss on her face. “Ruan Ruan, are you alright?”

“Ting Zhou da ge, you don’t need to worry, I just had a dream.”

Ruan Xi thought about how she had been wholly shaken by that dream just now. That dream was far too realistic.

It was so realistic that it felt like she had personally experienced it before.

But at this present moment, Ruan Xi could not even deceive herself; that probably wasn’t a dream.

In her mind, Ruan Xi could not stop herself from doubting whether she had lost all her memories shortly after she had transmigrated and was reborn, and she had only recovered said memories after that cold.

However, the memories before her birth was missing, and after learning about her dire circumstances, she had believed that she had crossed over into a book.

It turns out she was the original owner, and the original owner was her.

Then, she remembered that she once spent silvers to ask the Great Master of Yunhua Temple to light an altar lamp for the original owner. Black lines started to drip down Ruan Xi’s head.

She just lit an altar lamp for herself.

Ruan Xi decided that she would take a trip to Yunhua Temple to meet Great Master Hui Yuan after her child was born.

Now that she thought about the words that Great Master Hui Yuan said back then carefully, and the fact that he did not stop her from lighting an altar lamp for the original owner, Ruan Xi honestly found it quite strange.

“Ruan Ruan, what are you thinking about?” Wen Ting Zhou’s voice suddenly rang out, interrupting Ruan Xi’s wild and fanciful thoughts.

Voice muffled by his chest, Ruan Xi said, “Thinking about the dream I had just now, I dreamt of myself coming out of my birth mother’s womb.”

Wen Ting Zhou was slightly surprised upon hearing that, and he caressed her smooth hair with feather-light touches as he said comfortingly:

“The physician stated that as pregnant women approach their later trimesters, they become more susceptible to wild and fanciful thoughts. Ruan Ruan, don’t give yourself too much pressure.”

Despite saying that, he was deeply worried and sick at heart. Hence, he decided to tell his mother about it tomorrow, and ask his mother to converse with Ruan Ruan more. Even though Ruan Ruan’s emotions seemed stable, and she looked like she was in a good state of mind, it was highly likely that she was just trying to assuage their worries.

Ruan Xi: “……”

She had been slightly nervous at the start, but once she remembered that the child inside her womb belonged to her and Wen Ting Zhou, the nervousness receded, and what remained was overflowing expectation and joy.

However, judging from Wen Ting Zhou’s posturing, even if she said that she was more than fine, he would not believe her either. Ruan Xi could only go along with her words and nod in compliance.

Honestly speaking, Ruan Xi was also puzzled as to why she would inexplicably have such a realistic dream approximately seven months into her pregnancy– no, it should not be called ‘dream’, it should be called the re-awakening of her memories prior to her own birth.

When Wen Ting Zhou saw Ruan Xi’s obedient appearance, the sides of his mouth raised unconsciously. He planted a kiss on her face and then hugged her to sleep.

For the days following after, Ruan Xi did not continue to dream.

In the beginning of winter, Ruan san niang, whose previous appearance was nearly indiscernible from how thin she was, finally managed to have a night of peaceful rest after returning to the palace.

This was because Wen Ting Zhou was made aware that she had offered and presented the cement formula that was beneficial to the country and its people, which prompted him to stop his act of revenge.

And contrary to all reason, Ruan san niang thought that this was the Heavens opening their eyes, and it finally stopped tormenting her.

She was so happy that she nearly wept.

In what was a rare feat, her entire person became settled and she stopped stirring moths. Emperor Shengde was extremely pleased about this.

After pondering about her contributions, he decided to satisfy her heartfelt wish— giving her a child.

In a flash, it was the twentieth year of Shengde, and Ruan Xi had been pregnant for more than eight months.

It was a new year, but because of her heavy pregnancy, Ruan Xi did not enter the palace to attend the palace banquet, and she stayed in the Wen Residence instead.

Logically speaking, since the female protagonist Mu Qing Ci was the Fourth Prince’s concubine, she did not have the right to enter the palace, but because Mu taifei was in the palace, she was brought along.

In an unfortunate coincidence, she bumped into Ruan san niang in the palace.

It was only then that Ruan san niang finally remembered this future Empress Dowager, of whom she had forgotten a long time ago.

However, by this time, Ruan san niang no longer had the intention to hug her big thigh because the imperial physician had just confirmed her pregnancy.
