‘Kyaaaaaaaaaa!’

Whose voice was the first yell, I wondered.

‘Prince Savalier!’

I knelt beside Prince Savalier who fell lying on the ground and held his trembling hand.

They were very warm, and the poor prince was sweating like no tomorrow.

‘A-Anyone, He–‘

Just when I was about to call a doctor to tend to him,

‘Move it!’

Lina suddenly came and thrust me away, sending my head crashing into a chair’s corner.

‘Aileen! Savalier!’

Prince Maynard rushed our way and after holding me in his arms, raised his voice to call for a doctor.

But faster than any of them coming, Lina already put her hands in the 2nd prince’s chest, and after taking a deep breath, her hand began emitting a frail glow.

Gradually, Prince Savalier’s rough breathing began to calm, his face previously full of anguish was the same.

I only realized that Lina used her healing power when Prince Savalier started to slowly open his eyes.

‘She’s a saintess.’

I heard someone whispering in the background. Maynard held me securely in his arms, leaving me with nothing to do but watch the entire event unfold dumbfounded.

With the festive ambiance ending, I and Maynard moved to his room.

Prince Savalier was given a second look by a royal physician, just to be sure.

Maynard held my hands which didn’t stop trembling the entire time, telling me again and again that everything is going to be fine. When I finally calmed down, I took exhaled deeply.

It was my first time seeing Lina’s healing in action, but it was really amazing.

My capabilities are nowhere enough to neutralize a poison; had she not been there at that time, Prince Savalier could’ve been in severe danger. My pathetic self could do nothing but be flustered.

After that, Lina was applauded like a saintess, while I, who kept trembling in Maynard’s arms, could do nothing but watch.

I couldn’t help but doubt whether I was truly chosen as the next saintess.

Of course, Maynard told me about the true role of the saintess, but in the end, the designation is useless until the most critical times.

I wanted to be able to protect people like that too.

But my healing prowess can only heal trifling wounds.

If—just, for example, you know—Maynard were to fall right at this very moment, I wouldn’t be able to do anything to save him.

and yet, I am the saintess, which makes me laugh in self-depreciation.

When the trembling in my hands went calm, Maynard held me softly once more. What is he doing, is what I want to say, but I have no energy to push him away. At this moment, I feel like staying in the security of his arms, so I just lent myself to him instead.

‘There’s nothing for Aileen to fret about.’

Or so he says, but if Lina was not there and something dire were to happen to Prince Savalier, I would have never forgiven myself for not being able to do anything to save him.

I heard that the late saintess, Lady Sanya, has potent healing powers too.

Why was I not blessed with any? I… I want to have strong healing prowess too.

‘Highness, was that sacred orb really genuine?’

‘What are you saying so suddenly.’

‘I mean… I, can’t really do anything…’

‘I’ve told you before, Aileen. Saintesses are nothing like that.’

I know that. I know that well but I still couldn’t help but doubt myself.

Some may say that I’m greedy, but I can’t help it.

If I’m the saintess, I might as well have a stronger power at my disposal.

‘To think I’m the saintess. I’m sure everyone is disappointed.’

Maynard denies it, but I’m sure he knows too.

He had surely seen the look in the crowd’s faces watching Lina’s healing in action.

Foretelling what’s to come in my mind, I shut my eyes tight within Maynard’s arms.
