Chapter 12 – Cyril

Resting atop the zenith of the Forgotten Peak, a sweeping blizzard encompassed the summit.

With a flick of the Emei’s wrist, the snake-like train of white silk knocked back the invisible Youquan assassin!

Milk Tea Small Crisp’s prediction was so squarely on the mark that it was startling.

Youquan are the most skilled assassins among the six classes within ‘Knight Errant Road’. They are the equivalent of a high-burst jungler in a MOBA game. On top of that, Youquan can cloak themselves. They are capable of executing fatal attacks while unseen. However, Youquan had a high skill ceiling which made them challenging to play. Thus, there were only a handful of Youquan who performed well.

If One Wet Hand was considered a Youquan with commendable skills, then Milk Tea Small Crisp was a bloodthirsty wet nurse—a rarity in its own right.

Emei were not very good at PK-ing when compared to Youquan, but there was a 3,000 cultivation point disparity between the two. Milk Tea Small Crisp’s mechanics were also very sharp and precise. Within a mere two minutes, Milk Tea Small Crisp had finished off One Wet Hand. The black-clad roach of an assassin cried in misery as he collapsed.

A gleeful Ji Xiaoli had already consumed a life pill to revive himself and was cheering for his disciple on the sidelines to boost his morale.

【Teacher Orders a Salute: Disciple, how are you so strong!?】

【Milk Tea Small Crisp: ……】

There was a thought. He did not say the “you’re just weak” line.

One Wet Hand was likewise, stumped.

If he had died by Ji Xiaoli’s hand, he could still console himself that it was because the other party’s cultivation was too high. But, to die at the hands of a wet nurse, even if her cultivation was much higher than his, left him depressed. He had really lost mechanically.

【Current】One Wet Hand: Fuck, are you using wallhacks*? You could still see me when I was invisible.

*Wallhacks are a type of cheat that allows the player to see enemies through most objects in the game world. It also allows for the cheater to see people that most players would be unable to discern.

Milk Tea Small Crisp did not grace him with an answer. He simply stepped on his face before he went to Ji Xiaoli’s side.

One Wet Hand: “…”

Fuck!

Ji Xiaoli was in a much better mood. He strode over and tramped on One Wet Hand several times, avenging himself for having been stomped by the other party. As they were walking away, One Wet Hand, who had been silent, suddenly spoke.

【Current】One Wet Hand: Trash Emei! Do you think you can kill me if we had the same cultivation? And your shifu is such a noob.

Ji Xiaoli exploded with rage.

【Current】Teacher Orders a Salute: Don’t you only kill AFK players?

【Current】One Wet Hand: You were still killed by me even when you weren’t idle. Killing a noob like you is the same as killing an idle player.

Ji Xiaoli: “!”

He was as enraged as a pufferfish!!!

Ji Xiaoli was eager to retort but found that he was unable to make refutations the more he gleaned over One Wet Hand’s words. Everything he said hit the nail right on its head.

If they all had roughly the same cultivation, it would be impossible for Milk Tea Small Crisp to take out One Wet Hand. It was absurd for an Emei to kill a Youquan on a leveled playing field. And Ji Xiaoli could not kill him either because he was a noob.

Ji Xiaoli gritted his teeth. One Wet Hand was finally satisfied after delivering his verbal blows. He transformed into a pillar of light and soared toward the revival point.

When that person left, Ji Xiaoli finally realized something off: 【Hold on, it’s his problem that his cultivation is lower. Why should we be giving him a fair chance to PK?】One Wet Hand himself was a player out to slaughter AFK players. It’s not like he gave anyone a fair chance to PK either.

【Teacher Orders a Salute: That bastard! I’ll scold him to death if I get the chance!】

【Milk Tea Small Crisp: Are you capable of denouncing him?】

【Teacher Orders a Salute: ……】

Ji Xiaoli, who seldom scolded people since he was a child, was speechless.

【Milk Tea Small Crisp: Are you capable of killing him?】

【Teacher Orders a Salute: ……】

【Teacher Orders a Salute: No, disciple. Why are you boosting the morale of your enemies and extinguishing your prestige?】

【Milk Tea Small Crisp: You should be clear on where your strengths lie.】

Ji Xiaoli: “???”

His strengths?

The white-robed Emei circled Ji Xiaoli introspectively, typing his next few words very seriously: 【You’re foolish but hella rich.】

【Teacher Orders a Salute: ……】

Five minutes later, in the Xueyi Inn’s slasher profession chat, someone suddenly exclaimed.

【Profession】Ayurveda Smiles: What the fuck! There’s a reward of 444RMB for killing a Youquan named ‘One Wet Hand‘!

【Profession】Amitabha: 444RMB? What is One Wet Hand’s cultivation? I’m going to check!

Multiple slashers rushed toward Longmen Tavern to go through the latest bounty announcement.

【Huh? He’s also a Xueyi Inn slasher. Only has 1W2 cultivation!】

【Fuck, someone was quick. The bounty just got snagged up!】

【…The bounty was fulfilled just like that? One Wet Hand seems to be a noob.】

【Ah! The boss has set an arrest warrant on One Wet Hand again!!!】

Each player can have arrest warrants set on them three times a day, and in just five minutes, One Wet Hand died twice.

Every time One Wet Hand died by someone’s hand, Ji Xiaoli would receive a system mail that informed him of the location where One Wet Hand perished. Ji Xiaoli immediately brought his apprentice to visit One Wet Hand’s tombstone, stomping on it to vent his wrath.

One Wet Hand seemed to have gone into hiding after the third assassination mission was picked up. The bounty never saw completion.

Ji Xiaoli bid his time and waited patiently. Milk Tea Small Crisp suddenly spoke up.

Milk Tea Small Crisp: 【I took a screen recording.】

Ji Xiaoli froze: 【What?】

【Gongsun da-niang’s sword dance.】

A subconscious thought came to Ji Xiaoli’s mind.

Since he recorded the screen, why didn’t my disciple mention it the last time I asked?

But the mentally challenged teacher did not even think about it, and enthusiastically asked: 【Really? Was it recorded on a computer screen?】

【Mn. I’ll send it to you. Add my WeChat.】

Ji Xiaoli did not even think twice before hastily typing out his WeChat ID. However, before he could press the ‘Enter’ button, he went stock still.

Add Milk Tea Small Crisp’s WeChat?

Ji Xiaoli was in a daze. And in that split second, Milk Tea Small Crisp had sent his own WeChat ID over.

Ji Xiaoli snapped out of his reverie.

Why was he being so critical? His disciple was no cute girl. There was nothing for him to lose even if he added his WeChat.

Ji Xiaoli congratulated himself for his brilliance before opening his WeChat and entering the numbers. A pale yellow avatar abruptly popped up on the phone screen.

It was a small barrel-like robot. Its two slender arms were raised, running toward the end of the street into the brilliant sunlight, leaving behind only its shadow for the world to behold. The street did not look like it was a place within the country. It carried the aesthetics of the idyllic and rustic flair of Europe or America. The little robot was also very odd-looking. The dimension of the profile picture was so small that Ji Xiaoli could only see a big, rounded head.

Milk Tea Small Crisp’s WeChat name——

Cyril.

What’s Up: To be continued.

Ji Xiaoli stared at the little robot, blinking. Then, he tapped on the friend request button.

【Friend Request: Your foolish but rich shifu.】

Milk Tea Small Crisp accepted it instantaneously.

【Cyril: [Video]】

Ji Xiaoli promptly downloaded it.

It was a big file, about 300MB. Ji Xiaoli decided to start a conversation.

【Roasted Psyduck: Disciple, what is that in your profile picture? Did you photograph it yourself?】

【Cyril: Mn.】

Disciple doesn’t talk much.

Just like in the game.

Ji Xiaoli thought silently, and said: 【Is that a robot?】

【Yes.】

【Damn, really? You made it yourself?】

Ji Xiaoli meant it as a casual question but did not expect the Milk Tea Small Crisp to actually answer: 【Mn, I made it myself.】

Ji Xiaoli stared wide-eyed.

【Roasted Psyduck: I kneel to your greatness!!!】

【Cyril: I thought you said you would never kneel to me in this life.】

【Roasted Psyduck: ???】

What is he playing at?

【Cyril: You may rise.】

Ji Xiaoli’s face was stuck in an incredulous expression as he was ‘ordered’ to rise.

The two of them talked for a while. Well, it was mostly Ji Xiaoli doing the chatting as he nudged Milk Tea Small Crisp for responses. The latter indulged him with a few short, succinct messages. Noticing that his disciple seemed busy, Ji Xiaoli did not disturb him anymore. After the video was downloaded, Ji Xiaoli hurried to open and watch it.

The alluring dancer wielded her blade and danced a thrillingly elegant and powerful sword dance.

The background music filled the space with its dense drums and clanking lutes. When Gongsun da-niang’s sword shattered the luminous moon in one fell swoop, it was as if the magnificence of her youth also fragmentize with it. Ji Xiaoli breathed deeply and was stunned by the display once more.

He switched the game on again, just in time to see a Megaphone.

【Megaphone】One Wet Hand: Hehe, Teacher Orders a Salute, you think I don’t know it’s you? Noob. Kill me yourself if you can. You still died to me even though you have 2,000 cultivation points more than I do. Noob, what else do you have besides money?

【Megaphone】One Wet Hand: Is the noob scared?

【Megaphone】One Wet Hand: Noob, this laozi has 2K lower cultivation than you. I can still kill you again! You better believe it.

Ji Xiaoli harrumphed.

【Megaphone】Teacher Orders a Salute: I’m just rich. Come bite me if you don’t like it.

The World chat immediately boiled over.

【He’s the boss offering the 444RMB bounty?】

【I kneel to this boss! I want to be rich too!】

【Megaphone】One Wet Hand: Oh, there you are. Where’s your little disciple? Why are you not hiding behind your disciple like the coward you are? Noob. Fine, you’re the boss with the money. But it doesn’t matter even if a trash like you were rich. All you’ve got is f*cking money. Other than that, you’re just a noob.

【Megaphone】Teacher Orders a Salute: You’re not jealous, are you?

Ji Xiaoli held his breath for half a day, and this was his comeback. He was almost impressed by his own foolishness but couldn’t say anything to express how vexed he was.

【Megaphone】One Wet Hand: Jealous? Oh, Teacher Orders a Salute, what a mighty rich noob hahaha.

Ji Xiaoli gnashed his teeth and was about to respond when a megaphone appeared above his head.

【Megaphone】Milk Tea Small Crisp: Besides being rich, he can also hack you up. And you, you don’t even have any money.

His WeChat notification lit up. Ji Xiaoli tabbed it open. There was a voice message, followed by another one.

“Are you stupid? Wasting your time on him.”

“I’ll make you strong.”

A faint static could be heard with every word that came through the receiver. Even cellphones worth more than ten thousand would not be able to capture and convey the exact tonality of the original sound. It was as if a clear breeze fanned out in a gentle caress under the moonshine. A low baritone that carried a hint of the vigor of a young man quietened the noisy air-conditioning in the room.

Ji Xiaoli had never felt so captivated by another man’s voice before. The hand grasping onto his phone turned stiff as the device fell to the floor with a resounding click.

Ji Xiaoli snapped back to attention and picked up his phone, glad to find that it hadn’t broken from the impact.

He did not hesitate to tap on the voice message again.

“I’ll make you strong.”

Disciple’s voice seems to be… quite pleasant.
