Chapter 29 - Don’t You Think He’s Kind Of Cute?

That evening, everyone returned to Jie Se’s family resort for the gathering over dinner.

With Boss Yue not footing the bill this time, Jie Se had become more pragmatic. He took the initiative to introduce many Suzhou specialties that weren’t too expensive. They ate while chatting about the game. It just so happened that there would be a guild war in-game tonight. And the enemy guild this time was Jade Starship’s Jiangshan Ruhua.

Jie Se was afire with righteous indignation. “Jade Starship, that son of a bitch has 7CP’s and gets to bask in the bliss of a polyamorous relationship! Cut him down, brothers!”

Emperor Pavilion’s morale was high. “Charge!!!”

After eating, everyone sat down to play the game and thrash Jade Starship and his seven CPs over and over again.

This guild war was fielded by YueJian ChunHe.

Ji Xiaoli had heard Braised Pigeon mention that every time there was a guild war, Boss Yue would go on YY and issue voice commands. It was just that Boss Yue rarely came on after Ji Xiaoli joined Emperor Pavilion. He either did not participate in guild wars, or he would take part in it but would not be the one in command.

“He’s my disciple. My disciple was with me as my wet nurse. Of course, he wouldn’t be able to play a part in guild wars…” Ji Xiaoli muttered to himself.

When YueJian ChunHe was in a guild war, Ji Xiaoli was assigned to the second team instead.

Ruan Fenghe’s commands were well structured. He would call a player’s name and succinctly communicated what he wanted done in under five words. This time, his voice was not merely pleasant. It possessed a unique intensity. His tone was sure and unforgiving and carried a firm resolve. It was as if by doing whatever he instructed, they would emerge victorious.

They easily obliterated Jiangshan Ruhua. Lying motionless on the ground were Jade Starship’s corpse alongside the bodies of his seven wives.

After the guild war was over, Ji Xiaoli looked up to see Ruan Fenghe drinking water.

His slender fingers were pressed on the edge of the wide-rimmed glass with his face tilted slightly back. His Adam’s apple bobbed up and down with every gulp. When he lowered his head, his gaze found Ji Xiaoli.

Ji Xiaoli was startled. He immediately bowed his head and pretended he was still playing the game.

Ruan Fenghe had wanted to say something but decided against it.

The party ended a little after 10.

Meat Bun: “Jie Se has booked everyone suitable suites. The ones who live close by and want to go home, do take care of yourself. Give me a call when you get home. The ones who live farther away should just stay the night and leave tomorrow.”

Lao Wan waved his hand. “I’m going back to Wuxi. Pigeon will be coming with me. Salute, you’re going back to Suzhou, right?”

Ji Xiaoli nodded, confused. “Ah, yeah. I’m from Suzhou.”

“That’s on the way. Let’s go. You don’t have to use the high-speed rail. It’s such a hassle. Come with me, and I’ll send you home. It’s just a detour.”

Ji Xiaoli laughed. “Alright.”

Meat Bun and Jie Se sent off the departing members one by one.

YueJian ChunHe, who was a native of Shanghai, also stayed to see everyone off.

After Ji Xiaoli was brought to Lao Wan’s vehicle, Meat Bun and Jie Se stood by the driver’s seat chattering away with Lao Wan. YueJian ChunHe stood by his lonesome by the window in the back seat. His hands were in his pockets as he watched Ji Xiaoli. The night obscured most of Ruan Fenghe’s dashing countenance as the neon street lights illuminated one half of his face, giving him an otherworldly appearance.

“Leaving?”

Ji Xiaoli: “Ah, yeah…”

Ruan Fenghe: “Send me a WeChat message when you get home.”

Although Ji Xiaoli was someone with a big heart and was slow to react, he wasn’t foolish. When Ruan Fenghe had outed him earlier that afternoon, he hadn’t been angry. But his temper had been slowly simmering away.

Disciple had lied to me for so long. Ugh!

I also said so many terrible things about YueJian ChunHe in front of him. Double ugh!

Ji Xiaoli failed to reply to Ruan Fenghe as his thoughts drifted. He immediately began to roll up the window.

Ruan Fenghe, who was suddenly denied by a car window: “…”

Lao Wan drove off, leaving Ruan Fenghe watching the car pull away, leaving the scent of exhaust lingering in his nose. Yet, he couldn’t help but smile.

Meat Bun just so happened to see it. “What’s so funny, Boss Yue?”

Ruan Fenghe: “Don’t you think he’s kind of cute?”

Meat Bun: “What?”

Who’s cute? Lao Wan???

Ruan Fenghe left for the parking lot without answering the question and then drove home.

Suzhou was only a short distance away from Shanghai. There were not many vehicles on the road at night. The three of them were having the time of their lives chattering away.

Ji Xiaoli thought to himself: So what if YueJian ChunHe is Ruan Fenghe? So what if his disciple and YueJian ChunHe were one and the same? What did that have to do with him?

After the party, Ji Xiaoli joined the guild’s WeChat group. Everyone was chatting about tonight’s offline party, with members who were there excitedly describing Boss Yue’s ‘beauty’ to the others. They were in a state of excitement when someone asked: 【Huh, Boss Milk Tea wasn’t there? Didn’t the guild master mention that Boss Milk Tea would attend the meetup a few days ago?】

【Yeah, Boss Milk Tea wasn’t here today. What happened, guild master?】

【Protect Our Meat Bun: Haha… Boss Milk Tea? Boss Milk Tea suddenly had something going on, so he couldn’t make it. We should make sure he comes next time we have a gathering hahaha…】

Ji Xiaoli shut off the guild group chat and grunted snidely.

Boss Milk Tea had something going on?

Your Boss Milk Tea had treated you to a meal at noon then took you to a private club later in the day!

Ji Xiaoli sat on it and suddenly figured out that something was off.

He raised his head. “Umm, Lao Wan, Pigeon… Did you already know who my disciple was?”

Lao Wan and Pigeon were taken aback as they turned their heads round in unison. “Uh, so you found out?”

Ji Xiaoli: “…”

Sure enough, Meat Bun, Lao Wan, and Pigeon knew Milk Tea Small Crisp was none other than YueJian ChunHe.

Pigeon: “There aren’t many in the guild who are aware of it. It’s just you, me, Lao Wan, and Yang Xiu. I thought ChunHe started a wet nurse account so he could have a bounded healer of his own. But for some reason, he started acting like it was a sock puppet ID and made it seem like there was really an entirely different existence behind Milk Tea Small Crisp. Well, he seems to be your bounded healer now, Salute.”

Lao Wan also found it baffling: “Yeah. He has such an awesome wet nurse that he spent so much thought on. To think that he’s not providing milk to himself… I have no idea just what his thought process is. Your disciple is so good to you, Salute.”

Pigeon also nodded. This was the only conceivable explanation. “I didn’t realize just how much ChunHe actually respects his teacher before.”

With them mentioning these things, Ji Xiaoli also discovered that Milk Tea Small Crisp might as well be his wet nurse.

When he first asked his disciple for the reason he started this account, he told him: “I want to give milk to this person.”

That person was definitely not Ji Xiaoli. Logically speaking, he must’ve meant his main account, YueJian ChunHe.

However, his disciple did not offer his milk up to his main account. He was constantly providing heals to Ji Xiaoli, no matter if it was for dungeons or PK.

""

Ji Xiaoli took joy in it the longer he dwelled on it. He was never that vexed in the first place. He was happy.

That was when his WeChat notification popped up. He opened it.

【My Sand Sculpture Disciple: [Image] 】

Disciple sent me a picture?

Ji Xiaoli hurriedly tabbed it open.

It turned out to be a screenshot of a WeChat conversation between Ruan Fenghe and someone else.

【Moon Tide: Boss Yue, be a man and save the kids. Every time I get matched against you in PK, I get hammered to death. Can you give me some face and let me win one game? Just one game?】

【Moon Tide: Boss Yue, I’m complimenting you. You won’t even respond to me?】

【Cyril: The one who defeated you today wasn’t me.】

【Moon Tide: ???】

Huh, Moon Tide? Isn’t that person the Wudang I defeated this afternoon?

At this time, Ji Xiaoli received another message from Ruan Fenghe.

【My Sand Sculpture Disciple: He’s complimenting you. Do you think you should let him win next time?】

Ji Xiaoli couldn’t help being in good spirits as he seriously typed:【No! What’s so great about the number one Wudang of the region? He’s still a far cry from Boss Yue. It’s his fault that his cultivation was lower. He should know just how cruel the world is.】

【Okay, I won’t.】

Ruan Fenghe sent another screenshot a minute later.

【Cyril: He said he won’t let you win.】

【Moon Tide: ???】

【Moon Tide: The one surname Yue, who cares if you won’t? Believe it or not, this laozi will be the one who will have you hung next time.】

Ruan Fenghe sent another message to Ji Xiaoli.

【He said he’ll string me up so he can hit me.】

Ji Xiaoli:【What? Are you scared of him? If it were me, I would beat him for the next ten rounds!】

【You’re not mad anymore?】

Ji Xiaoli was dumbstruck.

【Lao Wan’s car window doesn’t have a privacy protection film.】

Ji Xiaoli:【?!】

【Where are you now?】

Ji Xiaoli finally came to himself. He was asking where he was?

【Why should I tell you?】

Ruan Fenghe returned home and poured himself a cup of hot water. He gulped it down and sent a voice message.

Ji Xiaoli opened it.

Lao Wan: “Huh? Wasn’t that ChunHe’s voice? Did I hear wrong?”

Pigeon: “Hahaha, don’t scare us.”

Ji Xiaoli muffled his phone and furtively put on his headphones.

“What should I do to ease my little shifu’s anger, hm?”

Ji Xiaoli was entranced by the deliberate drawl of his voice for a few seconds. When he came back to his senses, he typed:【Give me your account. I want to know what it’s like to be Boss Yue!】
