Yao Jin had taken the initiative to send a friend request. That thought made Jin Siming’s heart swell up a little, but one should maintain a correct attitude in this station. And that is, not to accept right away. After all, if she accepts too quickly wouldn’t it seem like she’s too impatient? That won’t do.

Jin Siming rolled around her bed a few times. After a few more minutes she couldn’t hold back. She picked up her phone and clicked to accept the request.

And then she accidentally clicked on Yao Jin’s community page.

The other party did not set any viewing restrictions for her profile or posts. One can see that the frequency of her posts weren’t very high and her last post was a line from a certain movie over a month ago accompanied by a symbolic picture.

Every post gave off this feeling of peace and there didn’t seem to be anything emotional, good or bad, about them.

Jin Siming was bored to death by the time she slid to the bottom of her feed and was about to exit when she accidentally refreshed it instead. Suddenly, the feed updated to show that Yao Jin had posted a new post.

The post was different from her usual style. It was a selfie.

This should be her first and only selfie in all of her posts.

In the photo, Yao Jin’s long hair is loose and down her shoulders to reveal her beautiful face. In her seductive eyes, there was a trace of laziness

The caption read: “Good night.”

The corners of her mouth twitched. To post such a smug-looking selfie before going to bed is quite….dramatic.

But despite her thoughts, she couldn’t help but stare at the photo a few more times. It was until someone sent her a message did she come back to her senses and she quickly swiped a finger across the screen twice to switch to another app.

The message was from Su Xiaohang, asking her to play a video game with her. However, Jin Siming was feeling a little sleepy at the moment, her head heavy and drooping. She didn’t have the energy to play games, so she rejected the invitation.

Actually, she’s been feeling a little uncomfortable since leaving the hot pot restaurant this afternoon. She felt weak and exhausted all over.

So she quickly took a shower, turned off the lights and went to bed early.

Her sleep felt unusually long.

In her sleep, she was both hot and dry, as if she was being wrapped in several thick cotton quilts in the middle of summer. She tossed and turned, trying to shrug off the heat as she tore at her pajamas. A while later, she felt a heavy weight on her body that made her unable to breathe.

The stifling and suffocating sensation made her restless and uneasy, much like a fish stranded on the beach.

In her daze, a plump and juicy peach suddenly appeared in front of her. This peach exuded such an attractive and sweet scent, and she couldn’t help but stretch out a hand to grab it.

As soon as her hand stretched out, the peach suddenly floated out of her grasp. She chased after the peach, but stumbled and fell towards the ground. Suddenly, her surroundings changed to the school infirmary. She had fallen onto Yao Jin, and a soft and rapid panting sound came from under her…..

“Ming-Ming, wake up.”

A rush of coldness spread throughout her body, subduing the heat until it slowly subsided. Jin Siming slowly opened her eyes as she regained consciousness.

Mother Jin held an empty suppressant tube, the kind that can be injected into one’s body, in her hand. She breathed a sigh of relief when she saw that Jin Siming had finally woken up, “You finally woke up. This is my fault. I forgot to remind you to inject a suppressant into your body in advance. Your rut has come. An Alpha’s rut will last about a week and come again every three months.  You must be careful during this period. Make sure to inject the suppressant every night in advance to prevent your pheromones from running wild. Additionally, remember to carry one with you when going out, just in case.”

After she finished speaking, she raised the syringe she had used, “I have put some suppressants in the drawer next to your bed. You must keep track of your ruts by yourself in the future.”

Mother Jin gave her a few more instructions and then finally left after reminding her to rest and eat breakfast.

Jin Siming leaned against her pillow and stared up at the ceiling.  After getting injected with a suppressant to suppress the discomfort of her runt, she still needs to rest and recover.

She stared at the ceiling blankly for a while when suddenly her cheeks turned red and she covered her face with her hands.

She had actually thought of Yao Jin just now during her rut….furthermore, it was the scene that happened in the infirmary that day.

How could she think of Yao Jin at such a moment?!

She lowered her head and harshly bit her lower lip. Her mind was racing with many different thoughts, her cheeks were heating up, and her hands were burning.

After a while, after a third reminder from Mother Jin, she slipped on some slippers and went down to eat.

She picked up her bowl of porridge and listlessly drank a few sips. Jin Tong, who was sitting across from her, smirked and leaned closer, “Sis, did you manage to catch your peach in the end?”

“What?” Jin Siming’s brows furrowed together.

“You kept shouting about it this morning when you weren’t awake yet.”

“Pft–cough, cough—”

Jin Siming choked on her porridge.

Jin Tong quickly grabbed two napkins and handed them to her, “Tsk, what’s got you all worked up? Is there something special about this peach?”

Jin Siming bent over, coughing violently a few more times as she clutched her chest. She was finally able to breathe again when she grabbed the napkin from his hand in annoyance, “Why are you asking so many questions, concentrate on eating!”

“…..Alphas in their rut period sure are easily irritated.” Jin Tong leaned back, and didn’t continue pressing for answers as he realized it would be futile.

Father Jin is often away on business trips and Mother Jin had already finished breakfast and was reading a book on the sofa in the living room. So, at this moment, it was only the sibling duo eating at the table.

Jin Siming, who was in her “moody phase” as he puts it, refused to talk to him so Jin Tong turned his head towards the living room, “Mom, was the auntie last night really an old friend of yours? Why haven’t I heard you mention anything about her before?”

Mother Jin flipped a page of her book, “I have many friends, so it’s normal if you don’t remember all of them.”

Jin Tong rolled his eyes and continued to ask:  “Is the Yao Jin she mentioned last night really her daughter?”

The chopsticks in Jin Siming’s hand froze when she heard him ask this and his breathing unconsciously slowed down.

Mother Jin sighed and said after a while, “She’s her stepdaughter, the daughter of the partner she is marrying.”

“What!”

JIn Tong was about to gasp in surprise, but his sister beat him to it. Glancing over at Jin Siming’s expression, she looked even more shocked than him.

Maybe it was because Jiming’s exclamation seemed too emotional as Mother Jin finally looked up from her book and turned her head to look at her. She stared at her for a while before she seemed to remember something, “Oh, that’s right, you and Jin-Jin are in the same class, right? What a coincidence it is. Qiong Ran was so excited when she talked about it with me last night. Since you two are classmates, you and Jin-Jin are pretty close, right?”

Jin Siming froze and came back to her senses a while later as she quickly waved her hands: “We’re just ordinary classmates with each other and…I don’t know her very well.”

Mother Jin closed the book in her hand: “Even if you are not familiar with her, you can always talk to her since you’re in the same class, right? There’s a good chance you’ll still be in the same class in your third year. Ran-Ran was telling me that the child’s relationship with her mother is not very good and resents her mother for remarrying, but it’s really due to some events during her childhood. It’s quite a pitiful situation. If you can help Auntie Qiong by passing on some messages to Jin-Jin and help them improve their relationship, it would be a good thing. Furthermore, Auntie Qiong also mentioned that Jin-Jin is a sensible child, with a good personality and good looks. She sounds like a wonderful girl, wouldn’t it be nice to get to know her better?”

After Mother Jin finished, she saw Jin Siming sitting motionlessly at the dining table. She didn’t speak and who knows what she was thinking about. Mother Jin spoke again, “Oh, forget it, it’s not an urgent matter. Ran-Ran only came over to deliver some invitations at night as their wedding is scheduled during your summer vacation.”

Jin Tong stood up excitedly at the prospects of going to a wedding, but Jin Siming didn’t hear a word Mother Jin said. All of her thoughts had flown out the window the moment she learned that Yao Jin’s mom divorced when she was a child and was about to remarry.

She used to only know very little about Yao Jin’s family such as that they were well-off. Other things, she knew nothing about. It was only after Yao Jin had told her those things about Qin Ziqing that she had gotten an inkling that Yao Jin’s childhood might have been a lonely one.

She never thought that Yao Jin was from a single-parent family and that her mom was about to remarry. Who knows what kind of mood Yao Jin would be in right now….

At the end of the semester, the one thing students look forward to the most is summer vacation. While everyone is excited about summer vacation, those whose grades are always at the bottom are starting to worry. This is because they have one last obstacle to overcome before the holiday and that is the final exams. Whether their long vacation can be spent comfortably depends entirely on whether their test scores are good or not.

Even Su Xiaohang, who usually doesn’t care much about her grades, has recently started to cram study and pray to Buddha for help.

Despite breaks between classes being relatively rare, a time when they can come out for a quick stroll and a breath of fresh air, Su Xiaohang had instead dragged Jin Siming to their classroom in a hurry.

“Aiya, hurry, hurry, I haven’t finished copying down my English notes yet!”

Jin Siming was dragged forward by her sleeves as she smiled helplessly at the back of Su Xiaohang’s head, “Who was the one that didn’t follow the proper routine and do their homework normally? It seems that only when there is a fire under your butt that you realize the urgency of the matter.”

Su Xioahang scrunched up her face, “Don’t provoke me right now, I’m….”

Before she could finish, Jin Siming slapped her hand away. She turned her head only to see that her friend was entering the back door of the classroom next door.

Su Xiaohang was surprised by her sudden movement and followed after her in confusion.

“This is Class 5, why do you want to come here? We’re not in our classroom yet.” She looked at Jin Siming leaning against the back wall of someone else’s classroom with a puzzled expression on her face.

Jin Siming worried her lower lip as she waved a hand to signal to Su Xiaohang to go back first, “I’m going to hide in here for a moment, you can go back first.”

Su Xiaohang was even more puzzled: “What are you hiding from?”

Jin Siming refused to tell her more, stretching out a hand to give her a slight push, “Nothing, you should go back first.”

“……” Seeing that she didn’t want to say anything, Su Xiaohang didn’t continue to ask. So although she was very confused, she turned around and left first.

Jin Siming let out a sigh of relief after Su Xiaohong left.

She was hiding from Yao Jin.

Just now, in the hallway, she saw Yao Jin and Gao Mei walking towards them. In order to avoid having to face her, Jin Siming, in a moment of desperation, stepped into the classroom they were passing by.

She doesn’t know what is wrong with her lately but her heart always feels strange when she sees Yao Jin. It’s one thing for her heart to beat faster than normal, but that unexplainable feeling made her feel very uncomfortable.

So in the end, when she sees Yao Jin, she subconsciously avoids her.

She stayed in that classroom for a while longer and then secretly peeked into the hallway as she leaned against the door. Seeing that Yao Jin was no longer there, Jin Siming moved to leave.

At that moment, a pair of sleek and long legs suddenly appeared in front of her. She looked up to see a beautiful girl standing in front of her with a smile.

“Classmate, are you here to find someone?”

Jin Siming rubbed her nose in embarrassment at her words, “Uh…no, I’m just passing by.”

Jin Siming took a few more glances at this girl’s long and beautiful curly hair. She felt a sense of familiarity but was unable to recall where she had seen her before.

Qin Chuxuan raised her lips, and said with a light smile: “Oh, so you were just passing by. Well then, in the future, you are more than welcome to come and visit us anytime~”

After she finished speaking, she took a half step back and Jin Siming also smiled back in a friendly manner. She turned around to leave when another voice came from behind her.

“Yo, what a coincidence, I didn’t expect to run into you here.”

This voice sounded familiar and it came from somewhere close behind her. She curiously looked back only to see that it was the strange girl she met in the bathroom of the hot post restaurant.

Jin Siming was a little surprised. She didn’t expect her to be a student at this school as well.

Perhaps the strange girl was more restrained at school as she wore more clothes than last time. Although her shorts were a little short, her makeup wasn’t as flirtatious as last time.

Ji Lingfei walked up to Jin Siming with a smile and leaned close to her ear as she spoke in a husky whisper, “It’s nice to meet you again, you little rascal~”

Jin Siming raised an eyebrow and quickly stepped back, her back brushing against the wall as she explained, “That was a misunderstanding. It isn’t what you think, I was just trying to stop you from falling!”

“Oh~ If that’s the case, then I have indeed wrongly blamed you.”

Although her words seemed sincere, Ji Lingfei’s expression didn’t change, as if Jin Siming’s explanation was too weak to be believable.

“Enough, Ji Lingfei. Stop teasing her.” Qin Chuxuan pushed Ji Lingfei to the side and stood in front of her. She smiled sweetly at Jin Siming, “She’s a bit of a nutcase, you don’t have to mind her. Classmate, my name is Qin Chuxuan. I look forward to seeing you again~”

After Jin Siming left, Qin Chuxuan fixed Ji Lingfei with a glare, “When will you learn to stop?”

Ji Lingfei crossed her arms as she sat down at a desk in the last row and raised her eyebrows, “What? If I didn’t play the bad cop, how would you get a chance to strike up a conversation with her?”

Qin Chuxuan couldn’t be bothered with her and glanced down to find a student ID lying on the floor. She knelt down and picked it up. It had Jin Siming’s name written on it.

Her long legs moved forward and she walked out of the classroom.

After Jin Siming left Qin Chuxuan’s classroom, she hurried towards her own classroom. Perhaps it was because the next class was about to start, but the hallway was empty with almost no one walking in it.

When she reached the stairwell and moved to go upstairs, she halted in her tracks.

This is because her eyes met with Yao Jin who was walking down from the top of the stairs. It was too late for her to avoid Yao Jin without making it seem obvious.

She nervously swallowed, deciding to quickly pass Yao Jin, when Yao Jin stopped on the stairs in front of her and looked straight at her.

“Have you been avoiding me lately?”

Jin Siming raised her head to see Yao Jin staring down at her from the steps above. A fleeting “quick, hide!” expression flashed by her face before she replied, “Who would be avoiding you? I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

After she finished speaking, she took a step to the right and tried to move past her, but the other party also took a step to the right to block her.

“Is that so? Then why won’t you look at me when you say such things?”

“I….” For a moment, Jin Siming was at a loss for words as she stared into Yao Jin’s mesmerizing eyes. Her heart thumped twice in her chest because of those beautiful fox-like eyes, and she quickly averted her eyes in fright and said panickedly, “Hey, Yao Jin, what are you doing?! Get out of the way, class is about to start!”

After saying that, she didn’t hear a response for a long moment. So, she shifted her gaze back up again.

Yao Jin was staring at her silently, glancing at one of Jin Siming’s hands that were resting on the handrail. She stretched out her own right hand and placed it on top.

Jin Siming quickly withdrew her hand when cold fingers brushed it, as if she had received an electric shock.

Yao Jin snorted, chuckling lightly, “You’re so nervous. Could it be that you’ve….developed feelings for me?”

Jin Siming’s heart tightened, and she took a deep breath: “You….did you forget to take your medicine today? Why did you start talking nonsense?”

Yao Jin moved down another step as she said slowly, “I’ve heard that when you like someone, you will feel nervous for no reason when you see them, your heartbeat will speed up when you get close to them, and you don’t dare to even meet their eyes for more than 5 seconds. Do you dare to….test this hypothesis with me?”

At this moment, there was only a small distance between them and Yao Jin’s eyes were almost level with hers. Jin Siming subconsciously wanted to step back, but Yao Jin grabbed her arm, “Don’t tell me you actually don’t dare to? In that case, you do like me.”

“Who said I don’t dare to! What do you want to test?” Jin Siming straightened up.

“Look at me for more than 7 seconds. If you avert your eyes, then you lose.”

“Alright.”

For the sake of her dignity, Jin Siming decided to bite the bullet and face her head on.

The corners of Yao Jin’s lips rose: “Then are you going to raise your head?”

Jin Siming’s head was bowed as she hesitated for a moment before taking a deep breath. With a determined heart, she raised her head and met Yao Jin’s gaze.

When faced with those autumn-colored eyes, her conflicted feelings just now were thrown to the back of her mind. Everything around her felt frozen and she could only hear her thundering heartbeat in her ears.

In this frozen world, only the two of them existed.

She didn’t know how long she stayed like that, staring at her eyes. She only returned to her senses when she felt a warm breath on her face and Yao Jin’s face was a little too close. She immediately stretched out her hands and pushed against Yao Jin’s shoulders. A gap suddenly opened up between them.

“Is that enough….time?”

After being pushed away by Jin Siming, the glazed look in her eyes gradually faded. She slightly turned her face to the side, hints of red blushing across her cheeks, “It’s enough.”

Jin Siming breathed a sigh of relief and glanced at Yao Jin’s face. The unusual blush blooming across her face only made her look more beautiful as it spread. Her lips parted, but she didn’t say anything in the end as she turned around and walked away.

“Whew….”

Yao Jin breathed a sigh of relief after Jin Siming left.

When she and Jin Siming were staring at each other just now, she was tempted by those rosy red lips for just a second. Surprisingly, she even felt a desire to….kiss her.

She patted her chest lightly, trying to calm down the strange feeling in her heart.

She took several deep breaths and turned around to head back when she saw Qin Chuxuan appearing from around the corner.

She stood still as Qin Chuxuan slowly walked towards her with a smile, “Jin-Jin, you haven’t contacted me in a while. Is it because you’ve been too busy dating recently and that’s why you haven’t had the time to contact me?”

Since their last falling out, Qin Chuxuan, who hadn’t actively approached her for a long time, suddenly took the initiative to engage in a conversation with her. Yao Jin’s red lips curled up slightly: “That’s not true. If Chuxuan wants to see me, I will always have time.”

Qin Chuxuan grabbed her hand, placing an ID in her hand.

Yao Jin froze when she saw the name on it.

“Did you know, I’ve heard that you ruthlessly rejected Qin Ziqing after she returned. I felt a little happy hearing that, because I thought you’ve finally hardened your heart to completely cut-off all relations with her. However, it seems that you didn’t do that just for yourself. You weren’t just making an excuse, weren’t you? You really do…like her, don’t you?”

Yao Jin lowered her eyes, refusing to directly look at her, “If you wish to chat about the old days with me, I’ll have to take a rain check. Now is not a good time.”

Yao Jin turned around to leave and Qin Chuxuan shouted after her, “I picked up that ID for her, so remember to praise me a bit in front of her~ I don’t want to be known as some no-name righteous classmate who does good deeds!”
