It didn’t take long for Yao Jin to move back to her original seat from her seat in the back row. Out of all the students, Su Xiaohang was actually the most upset about this change. Although Yao Jin stayed behind for a short time, the two of them had already become close friends.

Jin Siming sat upright on her seat without a hint of emotion on her face.

Although she wore an indifferent expression on her face when Yao Jin was sitting in the back, she couldn’t help but be distracted by her every move. Now that Yao Jin has returned to her original state, the tension was no longer there and she was secretly relieved.

However, on the second day after Yao Jin moved back to her old desk, she noticed that her heart felt a little bit empty every time she passed by that empty desk. She didn’t know when it started, but she had grown accustomed to Yao Jin sitting there and being able to gaze at Yao Jin’s delightful side profile.

The days slowly passed, and soon the week came to the end and the end of semester creeped ever closer. After the end of their second class that afternoon, the head teacher suddenly stepped onto the podium and asked the students who have differentiated to stay after while the other students left first.

Jin Siming, who was packing up and ready to leave, had no choice but to sit back down and watch Su Xiaohang leave with a smug smile. She placed her arms on the table, propping her chin in one hand as she curiously wondered what announcement the head teacher was going to make.

Once most people had left, their head teacher looked at the small group of students who stayed behind with a solemn expression as she leaned over the podium, “In less than half a month your second year is coming to an end. I believe everyone is familiar with the arrangements that our school has always done at this crucial juncture. Taking into consideration the differences between differentiated students and the other students, we will be dividing you into separate classes as we enter your third year. Although the number of students is different from previous years, there will not be much difference. You all will be divided into about 2-3 classes and in addition to your final exam and other grades, there will be an additional aptitude test of your abilities to determine which class you will be put in. This is a tradition of our school and so the aptitude test will be conducted within the first month of your summer vacation after school ends. Therefore, the test will be taking place in about a week and the school will organize a trip to the aptitude performance center.”

Before she could finish speaking, the students below began to whisper amongst each other and many complaints were thrown in the mix. After all, they rarely got a summer vacation and most of them wanted to have fun without any worries. They didn’t want to be forced to attend a school affair.

Jin Siming didn’t have any complaints as she had no plans for the upcoming vacation.

The head teacher heard the whispering below and pushed up the glasses on the bridge of her nose as she continued, “Of course, this is not a mandatory trip. However, keep in mind that except for some unique personal expenses, all basic expenses will be covered by the school. It is fine if you do not wish to participate, but the grades that will decide which differentiated class you will be placed in is based on a 100 point system. Your final exams grade is worth 10%, your personal grades are worth 40%, and the aptitude test is worth 50%. If you do not take the aptitude test, your score for the test will default to 0. Alright, please pass out these registration forms and have them handed back to me by next Monday after you’ve filled them out.”

The forms were quickly passed out and those in the back row hurriedly stood up to leave after getting their copies. The head teacher glanced at them and said slowly, “I hope that everyone will focus a little more on the aptitude test. After all, your class placement in your third year will have a direct impact on the interviews at the various universities you’ll be applying to next year.”

After making her announcement, the head teacher left and everyone dispersed. Jin Siming picked up her bag and made her way alone to the school gate.

As she walked downstairs, she heard the two girls walking in front of her talking.

“Ai, why did the old boss tell us that class placement will affect our university interviews? I don’t understand what she means.”

“Did you not know? When you go to your interviews next year, you will have to write the name of your teacher on your application. The school’s star teachers make up the majority of the third year classes and the better the class, the better the teacher. If you’re lucky, you might even be able to take Teacher Ren’s class!”

“Wow, so that’s why…”

As the two girls walked further away, Jin Siming was preoccupied with these new revelations and before she knew it she had reached the school gate. It was only then that she remembered that Uncle Zhang, the chauffeur, was taken away by her parents for a social event and would not come to pick them up today.

She quickly turned on her phone to order a taxi, but it wasn’t easy to find a taxi that would take her to the area she was in. So even after waiting for a long time, no driver picked up her order.

She had no choice but to start walking forward. Maybe she’d have better luck at getting a driver after passing the intersection up ahead.

Jin Tong had sent her a message telling her to wait for him after school, but because the head teacher had made them stay behind for so long the boy had left by himself. He really is quite unreliable.

Jin Siming carried her bag and slowly walked forward on her long legs. As she passed a narrow alleyway, she was suddenly attracted by a small “meow” sound.

She stopped and looked to the side only to see Yao Jin squatting on the ground and facing off with a small, fluffy kitten whose fur was all puffed up in anger.

Yao Jin looked nervous as she stared at the kitten, slowly stretching out her hand after much hesitation. However, she quickly pulled back her hand after it was slapped by the palm-sized, baby “Gluttonous Beast” in front of her.

Jin Siming: “….”

Jin Siming unexpectedly felt that this scene of Yao Jin being “threatened” by a little kitten was quite interesting. She unconsciously stopped as the corners of her mouth twitched upwards.

Yao Jin noticed a person stop next to her out of the corner of her eye. She turned her head to look and her expression quickly changed when she saw who it was. Her lips curled up, “Classmate Jin, you’re here~”

Her sweet and tender voice made a lump form in Jin Siming’s throat and she swallowed hard.

Ever since Yao Jin misunderstood what she said outside the history class last time, Yao Jin’s been acting cutely and sweetly in front of her.Shockingly, Jin Siming found herself quite pleased by it.

Jin Siming bit her lip and scolded herself for that thought. She watched as Yao Jin stood up and pointed at the little kitten as she said, “It seems to be hurt, can you help me?”

The chubby little kitten had light yellow fur and its fur was standing up as it curled up in the corner of the wall. One of its front paws was half raised and drooping downwards. It was even still oozing blood and anyone could see that it was injured.

Jin Siming walked over with a frown and squatted beside Yao Jin,. She stretched out a finger to gently pet the kitten’s furry head.

The little fluff ball hissed and bared its fangs. It was quite fierce.

Yao Jin quickly grabbed her wrist, “Be careful, It’s very defensive right now.”

The warm and delicate touch on the back of her wrist made her look down at Yao Jin’s hand. She quickly looked away and gently pulled back her hand.

“Are you going to raise it?” Jin Siming asked.

Yao Jin looked at the little furball, hesitation written all over her face.

Seeing that she didn’t speak, Jin Siming spoke up again, “If you’re afraid of cats then you shouldn’t keep one. Raising a cat is a commitment, you have to give it a home and take care of it for the rest of its life.”

Yao Jin pursed her lips. She’s not afraid of cats, but she’s never raised such a small creature before. She felt a little helpless. She doesn’t even have a place she could call home herself, so how can she give this kitten a home?

But Yao Jin couldn’t help chuckling when she looked at the fierce look on the little fluff ball’s face. The way it bared its little teeth and hissed at people looked like someone else who also tries to talk tough and put up a strong front.

“I want to raise her. I’ll take care of her for the rest of her life.”

The two of them carried the kitten to a pet hospital. After getting a checkup for the kitten and dressing its wound, it had already gotten dark outside.

Jin Siming stood on the side of the road, holding the blue bag with the kitten in it. She glanced over at Yao Jin who was hailing a taxi, hesitated for a moment, and then handed the bag to her, “Here, this….I’ll give the cat to you, I’m going home first.”

The cab just pulled up when Yao Jin heard Jin Siming saying she was going to leave and even handed the little furball to her. Her heart started to panic at the thought of taking the cat back with her.

She bit her lip, looking up at Jin Siming with a bit of grievance in her voice, “You’re just going to leave….leave me alone here and not care at all about the little furball?”

Jin Siming was dumbfounded. Why does it sound like she’s some sort of scumbag who’s abandoning her wife and children?

Jin Siming said anxiously: “No, no, what are you even saying! This little guy was picked up by you in the first place. I only came here to help you out of the kindness of my heart because I saw you were at a loss. Stop trying to blackmail me!”

Yao Jin blinked her eyes and looked at Jin Siming with a pleading gaze. Her voice softened, “But I’ve never raised a tiny animal like this one before. Can’t you come over and help me arrange its bed before you leave?”

Jin Siming took a deep breath. When Yao Jin suddenly turns on her cute mode she almost couldn’t resist it.

She gritted her teeth and said, “You should ask someone in your family to help you instead.”

Jin Siming regretted her words as soon as she said them because she had suddenly remembered Yao Jin’s complicated family situation.

Sure enough, Yao Jin silently lowered her head and said quietly after hearing this, “There’s no one in my family that can help.”

Jin Siming’s heart was a little flustered, “This, I….I’m sorry.”

Silence instantly engulfed the two of them and as they stood there, facing each other, a white car stopped on the road beside them.

Yao Jin looked at the license plate and took the bag from Jin Siming’s outstretched hands: “This is my car, you should head back now as well.”

After she finished speaking, she took the bag and got inside her car without a second glance.

Jin Siming stood to the side, her heart sinking as she watched the car door close. She stomped a foot on the ground, letting out a sound of frustration, and then quickly reached out to hold the door.

“Forget it. It’s early, so since I still have some time I’ll help you get the little guy settled in first.”

Jin Siming stood in front of the door with her chin raised and her eyes averted.

Yao Jin, who was sitting in the car, never expected Jin Siming to follow her. She was frozen for a moment before her eyes lit up with joy.

She moved further inside, patting the empty seat next to her, “Classmate Jin is such a good person~ I knew you wouldn’t just harshly abandon us like that. Hurry up and get in~”

Jin Siming, who was suddenly labeled as a ‘good person’, suddenly didn’t want to go in again as she stood outside the car. She had felt guilty just now because of Yao Jin’s dejected expression and had thought that her words may have struck a painful chord, but after witnessing how quickly Yao Jin’s demeanor has changed she was having second thoughts. If she hadn’t personally seen how sad she was just moments ago, she may have wondered if the sad person just now was the same person.

However, since she had already basically squeezed herself in between the door it would be difficult for her to retreat now. So, with no other choice, Jin Siming sat in the car and closed the door behind her.
